Now it shouldn't come as a massive shock to anybody but I'm not much of a SR-009 fan. From day 1 they always sounded messed up to me and the BK and S didn't really make it any better, even a bit worse with the 009S. To this day I have only one 009BK (as it is a limited edition) in my collection and one regular 009 that showed up here randomly and was a stark improvement over all the other sets I've owned. No idea why those sound different but better not mess with them. Now the plan was always to do something with the 009's to improve them but there was always something better to do. Well with surgery pending a couple of months ago, I finally had time to do some…

I am surprised there has not been much of a talk of the Focal Clear headphone here yet. I bought a pair from Justin a few months ago during a promotional sales. It’s an impromptu buy mostly prompted by Tyll’s review and the fact I had just built a SS Dynahi. Don’t ask me why! To cut to the chase (my personal opinion of course), this is my favorite dynamic headphone I have heard to date. I agree with just about everything Tyll said about it. It just sounds “right”. Probably best overall in terms of reproducing the tonal and timber of instruments. It reproduces a well recorded piano as convincingly as I have heard from headphones. I own a pair of Elear and …

Not exactly sure, but I think the product comes with the earbuds+decoration general pic of em It comes in 4 flavors. Here's some direct links showing them (some flash thing with zoom, so you can see the intricate detail) :limestone (?), fringe, fur, and lace. I'll admit there's an god awful amount of detail going into some of these, thought I still find them completely wasteful.

Hey guys... I'm new around here and am not sure of the protocol for such things, but I'm in need of some advice. I recently sold a pair of ATH-A900 LTD's that I really enjoyed, but just had to get rid of them to help out with rent. Well the time has come to nab another pair as I'm about to lose my sanity if i dont get some good listening time in. So the headphones I've owned (in order): SR-225, ER4-P, DT-770(80ohm), and the ATH-A900LTD's. So where to go from here? I'm still undecided on whether i want open or closed, but I really want something different this go around. I had pre-ordered HF-2's but had to cancel due to the above reason, so thats sad. But my proble…

Someone here please console me (or flame me if you wish) that this purchase is not a fail. I'm an indecisive prick......and I hate myself........

I just purchased this amplifier and have a couple questions , but first I never used headphones and just getting started and would like some advice which manufacturers of headphones would mate well with the Mjolnir Audio Dynalo Bipolar 2 . A little back ground , the fellow I purchased the Mjolnir from was also selling his Audeze 3 headphones as a package deal however I found these headphones uncomfortable after a 1/2 hour of listening. He suggested a slew of other manufacturers and told me to browse headfi headphone site . I couldn’t make much sense of what I read and doing searches I landed here . i appreciate anyone’s direction to a quality comfortable headpho…

I'm thinking about picking up a pair of these or MS2i headphones. The problem is that I have never read anything on the MS Pro. Have any of you auditioned them? What were they like?

Talk about timing...USPS and FedEx both arrive at exactly the same time with Mr. USPS carrying my new Pint amp and Mr. FedEx carries my E500 and Cardas mini-mini! Fired thing up and to say I'm impressed is an understatement. Most definitely THE most comfortable IEM's I've ever worn. First impressions on the sonics is also very positive. Yummmm!!! If anyone wants more pics of the E500's, let me know. I was at the office and so was the camera!!

A W10Ltd was offered in trade for my RS-1 at the other site. Have not found much info on this phone in the hour or so I looked. I'll research more later. His description "these are the limited edition woodies, released after the original w10vtg. it's a different sounding beast, cleaner and more focused than the vintage. bought them used here in excellent condition with original cardboard box. Wonder if anyone would care to comment on their interpretation of the sound ... especially as it relates to the W5000 or AD2000, or even compared to the RS-1.

So I just acquired a pair of HP-2s. While testing them out today, I detected a bass rattle in the right driver. Confirmed this using test tones from the RealTraps site. The rattle does not show up with my HD650s, so I'm inclined to think its not my other gear. However, I don't have another source/amp combo to test on. Is this sort of thing fixable? Should I just return the headphones to the seller? Am I being stupid and missing anything? I would greatly appreciate any and all help.

Could anyone point out the precise differences between the Stax SR-202 and the SR-303? I understand that the difference between the '303 and '404 is only the cable, but I was wondering what about the '202? I have read something about it somewhere (how's that for being vague.. . Maybe in the Stax thread), but I am unable to trace it back. Thanks for the help!

While my O2 was off getting a new cable and pads installed, HighEnd Workshop in the UK did a fantasic by the way and cost less than Yamasinc including shipping, I started looking at dynamics/orthos that have come out since 2006. Now with the O2 back on my head I just don't see a rival coming along I started with the Concerto, ya ya I know, and the HE-5LE. Nice for a dynamic rig but no. Brought in the Senn 800... no. Beta22... no. Still holding out for the LCD-2, maybe T1 but whats the joke? Off topic, something finally made its way to between two pins on one of the output transistors of my KGSS and burnt/arced for a while and left a nice ding in the top layer …

The right driver in my HD650s is loose. If I wiggle the headphones around I can feel and hear it jiggling. Sometimes the cable gets a little disconnected and the music cuts out. It's starting to get annoying. I've never done anything DIY in audio, but I'm willing to try something to fix this. Any advice? Also, not sure if this should go in a different thread? Thanks all.

Hey guys, need advice from your infinite wisdom. I recently lost my Shure SE425, therefore I need new earbuds. As good as they were, they lacked bass for me. As a beasshead, Im now looking for earbuds that have extreme bass, don't really mind compromising over quality of the rest of the spectrum (I have an HD650 for audiophile listening). I don't really have a max budget, but if it could remain under 500$, that'd be awesome. Also, I will be driving them with my phone's headphone jack, no portable amp (I just hate addtionnal bulk in my pockets). Thanks in advance. UPDATE: managed to find some XB90EX brand new for 100usd shipped, thanks everyone

Anyone else notice their headphone hearing changes after a haircut? It's gotten so I anticipate it each time I'm due... it was pretty bad this time, being about two months overdue. However, the benefit is that my Alessandro MS-1 sound a lot better today (at the same volume level)... highs and overall clarity and imaging improve. Having longer hair must have some kind of HRTF effect (I made sure my hair was never covering my ears when it was long).

FYI - There is a guy on Audiogon from Germany auctioning Ultrasone Edition 7's, Sony MDR 10's, and selling an HE90/HEV90 with two sets of HE90's available. Price is a subjective thing, so I won't comment, but they are available. I can't pass judgment, I bought an extra Aristeaus in a package deal to get my Omega's and HE 90's. I tried to pimp my sister out, but the guy just wanted the cash. Must be all that back hair............

I just got my MrSpeakers Aeon headphones yesterday. I ordered them with an XLR termination on the cable terminated assuming this meant I could use them with the balanced/XLR output on the GS-X. Then I opened the box and saw it said the headphone was a “single-ended planar magnetic headphone.” I’m confused. Is it fine to use with a balanced output? Is there any benefit? I can order the cable with a SE termination which would be better for portable use anyway.

I'm finding more and more that the profile of the Etys is interfering with my enjoyment of them. Allow me to explain a bit. I primarily use these headphones for listening while I'm doing yardwork (mowing), riding the motorcycle (at low levels so I can still hear the world) and while reading. The fact that the Etys protrude quite a bit outside my actual ear when properly inserted is causing some discomfort and annoyance. So what I'm wondering is what would be the cheapest route to custom-insert IEMs? The least-expensive commercial product that I've found is the UE-5c's and at $550 they are well beyond what I'm willing to spend. Anyone have any other suggestions?
