Hi all, has anyone heard the Antique Sound - MG Head DT/OTL MK III with the AKG K701's? The reason I ask is I have a VAL E10 amp right now which I'm very disappointed in. It barely has anymore gain or volume than my iPod! Funny thing is it's rated for an output at 300mW into 100 Ohms. That seems like it has quite a bit more output than the Antique Sound - MG Head DT/OTL MK III. What is the input sensitivity of that amp? The Val is 750mV. Perhaps the ASL amp has a higher input gain? Any info into this would be greatly appreciated. I really like the exterior build quality of the ASL amp. So I've always understood the term PRaT to somehow be associated with punchiness and speed; I've always thought "fast" when somebody says PRaT. But when I'm listening to the HP2, it almost feels like it is one small step slower rhythm wise then its younger wooden cousin the RS-1, and this slight step back in pace results in perfect timing with the music. Oh man... Why did i just finally wait to pop my flat pads on the these badboys.... i didn't much care for them on stock hf1's, but what a huge bass impact... it brings the sparkle in the highs a bit back from the larger chambers, and sacrfices sound stage a touch... but wow.... amazing. Not saying I prefer one or the other, but this might actually satiate my urge for a gs1k or rs1 down the line... it doesn't get much better then this for me.

Over at HF there is a mod for the Denon D2000/D5000 that is supposed to make them... (HF Topic) I'm not quite sure what to to make of this; he sounds pretty rational describing the mod. On the other hand he talks of vast differences after changing the phones' cables (and burning them in), which i tend to doubt. Has someone of you heard this 'spectacular' mod yet?

Still enjoying my Hd580 wired for direct balanced out from XLR out of my miniDAC, find it useful to move around from room to room in the house. Couple of questions: 1. You always see threads about HD580/600/650 used in this manner to good effect - just curious, any other headphones that respond well to running direct XLR out of these type of DACs? 2. Typical full-size HP's terminate in 1/4" plugs - are there such extenders that are female 1/4" (to plug the normal headphone into) to 2 x 3 pin XLR (to connect direct to DAC)? 3. I had those HP-2 recabled 80's you gave me woodied, rescreened and added wood rod stoppers. I now have flat pads on them too. Man they sound good! Thanks again .... the 80 has been one of my alltime best gifts!

Ok, so I apparently have more spare change than sense and ordered a pair of these. Couldn't resist the curiosity. These aren't really burned in yet (only a few hours on them), but they really are surprisingly good. They look and feel like earbus, and sound something akin to a real pair of headphones. Unlike earbuds they seem to do extended bass. At the moment they sound a bit 'plasticky' and nasal in the midrange (as if you took an open headphone and then covered the backs), and I wonder how they will relax with proper burn-in. They are extremely hard to drive - I find myself using a similar volume setting on my amp to my 650's, which makes them even harder to drive…

Seems like Audio Technica is releasing an update model to their ATH-ANC7 called ATH-ANC7b. Audio Technica said the improvements made to the model include new electronics (not sure if they meant drivers, noise canceling or both), redesigned earcups for better comfort, the battery is easily accessible, and the package now has long and short cables. Calling Reks, calling Reks ..... where did you get the grado cable and the screen mod done to those sr-80's. I love em! I added a headphone pad and they even fit well with good comfort. I might get another pair of sr-80's .... or maybe even a 225 .... and get them modded like these.

I just got these in today after I got a good deal on eBay. I'm really surprised by how good these sound. It was hard to find information on these, but it seems they were released a few years ago (in 2003/2004). Anyone heard these? Are they worth a shit? I may order some just because they look intriguing. I would be using a beefed up Raptor with Tung Sol and Telefunken tubes and an EAR HP4 to drive them with an Esoteric DV-60 as a transport and Reimyo DAP 999. Any opinions would be great before ordering more stuff I won't keep and lose money on. Looks like I need to update my signature, all the heavy duty Esoterics are in my home system now.

Bonnie has a pair of PX 100s that she loves for the office, but needs more (our at least some) isolation. The other alternative would probably be the Urbanites. But those seen a bit visually imposing.

I have a somewhat hard of hearing friend who is looking for a replacement headset for his iPhone. He's mostly looking to get better fidelity for speaking in the ear buds and microphone and will spend up to $100. He would like an ear bud solution and is not interested in IEMs. Any recommendations you can give will be greatly appreciated.
