Portable Audio

I didn't get to hear the JH-13 Pros, but the massive hype around these is messing with my head. Would I be crazy to just forget about full-sized phones/amps? Get myself a great source, Pico Slim, and some of these? I have no experience with truly great IEMs, so y'all are gonna have to tell me what's up.

I figure there are enough of us with these now that it's probably worth having a thread where we can talk about them without pooping all over an eeepc thread. So far I'm loving mine. I found a good solution to the video transcoding dilemma in the for of the Xilisoft Video converter. I endcoded a couple of videos with it yesterday and it worked great and only takes about 15min. to transcode a 40 minute show which seems perfectly reasonable to me. I haven't decided whether or not to install the 5 App pack from January since I don't really need any of them. I can check my gmail through the web interface and even that is hardly necessary. So, one of my clients is leaving to do a bicycle rce in th Alps on Friday, and knowing that I'm a bit of an audio nerd he had asked me if I can source him some good earphones for the trip. Thing is he can't be TOO isolated as he needs to hear traffic/etc, so he can be aware of what's going on around him. He's reasonably picky about sound... but source will be straight from a 160gb iPod to put things in perspective. His ear cavities are pretty small so for example a small UE tip isolates him too much for bicycling. Price is absolutely no object but fast availability is... any ideas? Thanks!

Hey all. I am new to this forum, so please be gentle. I have read nothing but praise for the RWA iMod at head-fi. RWA's other products have received favorable attention elsewhere (e.g. SonicFlare, 6 Moons). So I am all ready to send my iPod to RWA for modding. Then, I spend a few minutes here and I am skeptical. So what's the deal.

For anyone interested, I abused a FiiO portable DAC/Headphone amp on my test bench and just published a rather lengthy review on my blog. The bottom line is it's far better made, and performs way better, than you'd expect from a $99 product. It easily shames a lot of more expensive products. The battery sipping TI chip they chose as the headphone amp is the weak link but is still respectable enough for many applications. But it's clearly not an ideal amp for power hungry high impedance cans. Given the surprisingly good performance of the E5 and E7, I'm curious how the $129 FiiO E9 desktop amp performs? Not sure if anyone here cares, but there's a new iPod shuffle out today. iPod shuffle - Apple Store (U.S.) Apparently the controls are in the earbud wires.... so that kind sucks as it locks you into Apple's earbuds. I doubt 3rd party companies will even bother to come up with something that you can use with this iPod. I like the size and form factor though. It would be nice if they kept up the color scheme. I still like my orange shuffle

I haven’t seen anything about the Ibasso D12 on this site. When my friend at work ordered one, I did a search and found nothing. I apologize if this is a duplicate thread. So I've pretty much convinced myself to go back down the rabbit hole that is Custom IEMs. My budget, as usual, is somewhat limited so I'm trying to weigh all of my options. Over a year ago I started a similar thread and at the time was pretty much ready to pull the trigger on some Freq product right as they decided to go under. I did a search for HM801 and HM-801 and only found a reference in the thread on the last bought item. I hope it is ok to start this thread on the HM-801 that Fang of Head Direct sent me to try/test. So I got this nice little black nano 8g for $50 when I bought my computer one month before the new ones came out. I haven't really used it, and probably won't much, if ever, but I've been looking at cases, or maybe a skin, and I don't want to bulky it up, but maybe provide some protection (mostly for scratches; not worried about other). I hate the look of those silicon things, and well, so far everything else. I like the small sleek look it has, especially if I ever decide to pair it with my pico when it arrives. I've done searches elsewhere and get too much information to choose from, get annoyed, and stop. Any ideas?

Other than the impedance, is the only thing truly separating the two an added resistance to a p to s adaptor? Have been looking for a er4s, got offered a p at a nice price and thinkin about just getting the adaptor.
