Headcases Outside? The Horror... The Horror...

  1. Started by thrice,

Not sure if anyone here cares, but there's a new iPod shuffle out today. iPod shuffle - Apple Store (U.S.) Apparently the controls are in the earbud wires.... so that kind sucks as it locks you into Apple's earbuds. I doubt 3rd party companies will even bother to come up with something that you can use with this iPod. I like the size and form factor though. It would be nice if they kept up the color scheme. I still like my orange shuffle

  2. Hi, I'm going to buy my new DAP so I need your suggestions on these 3 players. I'm listen to R&B most the time, Dance, Pop.... so which one will be the most fit one for me? Thanks

  3. Started by Dreadhead,

Hey guys, I'm thinking of getting a flight case to protect my Qualias and I was thinking the Pelican 1200 looked like a great case or some other pelican. They are a lot more reasonable than I thought. Any ideas?

"Three Weeks 'Till iPhone!" OR "Convince Me Otherwise!" An Adventure In Expensive Gadgetry No One Really Needs Our family plan with Verizon ends January 21st, and my dad and mom are switching to Cingular. I'd like to switch over to Cingular as well, since I speak with them on the phone probably more then anyone else. Of course this also presents a great opportunity to buy my first fancy ass phone: the iPhone. I have been staunchly anti-fancy phone my entire life. In fact when I went with my Dad to sign up for our Verizon plan two years ago, I was adamant that the phones we received not have cameras in them. I just wanted a telephone, damn it. But the iPhone…

I'd like to give my son my old 3G iPod, but the Apple volume limiter only applies to 5G and later, as I understand it. I looked into rockbox, but it does not appear to be a feature. Does anyone know: a) can rockbox limit volume or is there another solution. Basically, I don't want him to blow his eardrums out (he's almost 3).

I need to replace my broken iPod and I'm not sure whether to get an iPod Classic or Zune 120GB. From what I hear the new Zunes are pretty good and the syncing software is not an embarrassment any longer. The problem is that I don't know anybody that acutally has one. Have any of you had a chance to monkey around with one? I like ipods but the headphone jack seems to be a weak point, my past two classics have broke pretty quick and on the last one apple refused to fix it. What do you guys think?

No, I don't mean concerts, I actually do mean recording stuff "in the field" -- I heard a really cool sound last night, and I didn't think of my iPhone (duh!), but even if I did, I want to get serious about this. I want to have access to a quality portable digital recorder at all times (I.E. if not actually with me, then with me as much as my iPod is). So, I realize this is not the best place to ask, so the question is mostly -- where should I go to ask this? Harmony Central? Any place else? I can't remember the music makers and producers forum that I used to frequent -- gear-freaks or something like that? Here are my choices so far, that I can figure: Tascam…

  8. The right channel went out on my ipod after only a few months so I sent it into apple. They said that the damage was caused by accident damage or abuse. I don't believe that I handled it in any neglectful way or there was accidental damage. Has anybody tried to force apple to honor a warranty after they have tried to deny a repair?

  9. Started by Fungi,

So I just got a nano 4G for my mom and of course it doesn't work with foo_dop for foobar. It's okay though since I need to use iTunes anyway to help her when she gets it. Question is, if I use the iPod with iTunes on my computer, will it be locked to this system or is there no problem when she gets it? And say I just want to use it kind of like a media storage device instead of something synched to a library on a computer; the things I put on it won't get eaten up when she receives it?

Hi guys, I need help with buying IEM headphones. I was looking for Shure's Se310 and then I saw some positive reviews for Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5EB and Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5Pro. I mainly listen to electronic and hiphop music. What would you prefer between these ones? If you suggest any other model, I will gladly listen to other suggestions. Sorry guys, I'm a newbie and I don't want to spend (max 200$) for a crap IEM's if you understand me. Thank you for your help in advance

Okay, so now that I have had my Sextett's for almost two weeks I have fallen in love with them. This means that my little PA2V2 is sadly not going to cut it as my only portable amp. Oddly enough, the headphone output from my Macbook Pro has better quality than the PA2V2. It is not as loud, but the PA2V2 was having trouble in the midrange and it sounded really bad. Anyway, back to the point. While I don't currently have the money to spend on a Pico, I want to know if I should just save up the money to get a Pico or save a little money and get an iBasso offering or something similar? I will be using my cans with my Macbook Pro mostly and every now and then with my …

I bit on the V-Moda FOTM awhile back for my 2 sons without doing much if any research. One of them partially severed the cable right below the y-split (or possibly courtesy of the relatively new kitten). V-Moda is saying they don't do repairs. I suppose I could recable it with 18 ga. Jena Any recommendations for some decent buds/IEMs, <$100 (<$60 preferable). They both already have KSC-75s as well. These are for use out of an i-pod, and even though they have them, they don't like dealing with amps. I seem to recall some good thoughts on the Altec 716s? Yuin? I know Klipsch had their pre Christmas 50% off thing as well. Thanks for any suggestions.

  13. For a view of the size of the Fuse with the Icon Mobile together. I have two small patches of velcro between them as well. Fuse is configured with a 16 gig microSD for a total of 24 gigs of storage. I have converted about 3000 FLAC files to Extreme VBR MP3 for my pleasure... This is my latest portable configuration.

This piece of proprietary unwieldy drm shit & ue10pro would be beastly. fuck them imods and jamato batteries. a new age of protable audio is here. works with itunes too. I dont care much for this player, but what i'm looking forward is rockboxed possibilities. from sa-cd.net: Q. What is the DSD-P1? A. The DSD-P1 is an audiophile-quality portable music player/headphone amplifier which plays native DSD files recorded on new removable media called DSD-Card, and also PCM files from internal flash storage. Q. How does it differ from the popular iPod line of players? A. The DSD-P1 supports removable media. It also has quality discrete components and increased …

I've pretty much decided to get a Sansa Clip sometime soon for gym duty, but I need help picking out some phones. I would prefer something cheap, so I won't feel bad if they get smashed by dumbbells or something. I currently use either my PX100s or my KSC75s, but the ambient noise is so great that I have to turn them way up, which probably is destroying my ears. My gf has some marshmallows, but I hate their sound. I'm currently leaning toward the Head-Direct RE2s. Anything else that's good and (preferably) well under $100?

I am looking for recommendations for a closed can. Requirements are isolates well, comfortable enough, light, can take a beating, sounds decent, under 200 pref under 100 bucks. My main phones are 580's and ksc-35's if that helps. Thanks for your help.

I just started using the ipod photo, and I installed the latest iTunes. It was formatted for Mac, so iTunes proceeded to restore it to work with a PC. It downloaded the latest software update and then it asked me to plug in the power cable for the ipod dock. It was plugged in, and an image of a power adapter going into an outlet appears on the ipod screen. Now I'm not able to get beyond that screen. And the ipod isn't showing up in iTunes anymore. I tried switching USB ports, restarting iTunes, and restarting my computer and it won't go beyond that screen. I also tried the hard reset method described on Apple's website (switch on hold then press menu and the center…

Hey y'all, So I have some shure se310s, but I was wondering if getting a pair of ER4ps would be an upgrade. I hear that the etymotics are rather bass shy, but I'm not a basshead, as long as I can hear it and its nice and tightly controlled. Here's some other information. I'll probably be using the phones mostly in my dorm room from my home rig so that I don't bother my roommate when he is trying to study (my HD650s obviously leak a lot). I listen to all kinds of music, rock, indie, metal, jazz, classical, and reggae. I value clarity more than almost everything else. I also listen at pretty low levels, especially on IEMs. I really don't like the 310s if they're …

Well, I posted all the ad copy a while ago in the last-thing-you-bought thread, but I thought I'd follow up after a while actually listening to it. Short answers: Yes, it's ridiculously tiny. Yes, it really does sound ridiculously good for its size. I would say it does honest bass down to the specified 80Hz and then some, which is quite an achievement for something that weighs all of 9oz. Mids and treble are clear and pleasant. At three feet or so, it will play louder than I'd care to listen for long. Remarkable given the physical constraints. Could you do better for $199? Sure, a pair of Audioengine A2s will make mincemeat out of it. Could you do better for …

  23. I've been having sooooo much fun putting together a 100mph audio system I just couldn't resist posting it up for your viewing pleasure before it starts moving too fast to see. You see, I bought me a super slab gobbler (highway bike) and I had to rig up some music. This is what it looked like when I bought it. A week later it looked like this. Didn't really have to take it apart that far just to install the gear, but I wanted to see what was under the hood. (BTW, what's under the hood is a 1300cc, 140hp, 100ft/lb torque screaming Yama-mill.) Then I did a bunch of this shit. And now it looks like this: Guess how …

  24. I got my friend a pair of OK2s for his birthday to use with his iPod and he's all so I was thinking of throwing in something basic for his PC. I know this is one of those questions, but I guess I'm looking for a cheap and cheerful USB DAC/amp that will leave some room to grow with harder-to-drive headphones. Thinking Total Bithead budget -- is there a better way to go (including used and DIY) for that kind of scratch? All suggestions welcome. Except "buy him a Pico." We're not that kind of friends.

In case anyone here is interested, the dual charger PowerDock is significantly on sale over at Buy.com. If you've got a couple iPods it may be worth it. More info from Griffin here.
