This one has been brewing for a while now but since I wanted to build a nice balanced amp it moved up in line. Basic setup is the same as the old Dynalo but now with Super Symmetry input, higher rail voltages and naturally a bit more power. Input stage changed to THAT340 which is a quad bipolar transistor array with matched NPN and PNP pairs. It is cheap and easy to source so no jfet drama. Hi all, Well silly me purchased a Dac Ah a year ago after reading some of the reviews over on HeadFi. http://www.pacificvalve.us/LTDACAH2.html I sent the DAC over to Reference Audio Mods for their full gundie mods and the experience has been less than satisfactory to say the least. The modded Dac Ah sat in my home office system and never got any serious play until recently and basically IT SUCKS! Any piano like Bill Evans or Monk sound very shrill, there is a noticeable suck out in the upper mids and bass is muddied. i have the next 3 weeks to kill before school starts again. id like to do something productive with my time. i dont know anything about electronics (well i know a little but assuming that i dont know even that will probably be safer for me). i would like to start working on either an amp or a dac that is fairly easy to build. cost is a slight issue so the whole thing should be less than $100 including tools. i already have a soldering iron but no solder. also, i dont know how to read a schematic, much less know how to plan out the layout of the build, so step by step instructions would be highly appreciated. pictures would go a long way too. lastly, id like to build s…

Hi everyone one year ago I bought two Aikido 24V and two Max Millet boards, I have assembled them with BJT and MOSFET. Great DIY project, great sound, really. The "valve sound" when I was young.... I like very much the Aikido sound with the LM317 buffer (great idea!!!!), this is my preferred headphone amply, and I like too the Millet diamond buffer stage, so why don't create a new headphone amp with the best of both Aikido and Millet? I bought a replacement tip for the iron labeled Aoyue brand but seller claims works with the Hakko. When I replaced it in the iron the replacement tip spins sort of freely (I can rotate it with a slight bit of force) even with the nut for the protective metal guard screwed in as tightly as it will go. Similar to this one: The thing is huge, and while it's interesting in an ephemeral way, it weighs about 40 pounds (full), and is of course pretty musty. Big arse mofo. So I sent my K1000 to Fitz a little while back for a re-cable. Today upon removing the wire mesh grills Fitz discovered someone's handiwork... Nice huh? The person I bought them from mentioned that they had new drivers installed, but forgot to mention the custom port in the side of one driver! He also never mentioned they were installed by anyone other than AKG. I'm finally going to break down and start doing my own soldering, and thought that maybe I'd make some adapters so that I can use other sorts of tubes in my Singlepower (tube complement == 3 x 6sn7's). 7n7's should be easy --they're just a rewire. It was suggested that I try 5687's. Based on this: and other posts (mostly from Jacob), it seems that it's not a straight rewire. Anyone have any idea what the "schematic" would be? Any others that are straight rewires that I should also try? Thanks for any info.
