  1. Started by faust3d,

I searched the forum and did not find such a thread, so inspired by this thread I would like to ask head-casers this: how big is your physical music collection? By physical I mean CDs, LPs, SACDs, R2R, music DVDs and etc, basically any original media. Let's keep any CD-Rs and digital files out of this I have nothing against digital stuff and copies, it's is cool, but I would like to know what original goodies you got stored in your bookcases, boxes and basements I have about 1500 CDs, 200 LPs plus some music DVDs, and god does this stuff take up a lot of living space.

It was a nice experience. Overall, the music was not tear-inducing, but there were a few favourite sections of mine, including some arias by the tenor, who had a wonderful voice. The chorus was a bit piercing. I've always been sensitive to soprano ranges, so a deafening array of sopranos was bound to hurt my ears. Overall, it can get deafening, really quick. The position where you sit affects the music (expensive tickets, etc), and the performance you get may not be cherry picked, like a recording is. Often I find that live performances always somewhat fall below recordings, and probably for obvious reasons. This led me to think a bit about hi-fi and music. People a…

  4. At some point or another, we have all lusted after people's gear signatures. However, whose music collection would you like to have? For me, probably Deepak. I'm not sure why, but with some of the things he's sold, I wonder what he's keeping

  5. THIS ONE IS ON US | This One Is On Us There are multiple versions either there, or on the way, including a Blu-Ray version for downloading. Dual Layer DVD and smaller iPod-able and you-tube quality versions are up right now. Here's the link for the dual layer DVD one http://thisoneisonus.org/files/TOIOU_NIN_AVOTT_GIFT_DVDDL.torrent Says, at least the BR, I guess, is 1080p and 5.1 sound. **BRENT**

  6. Started by dreamwhisper,

So one fine evening on boxing day, still stuffed full of leftover turkey and feeling tired from 3 days straight of overeating, I am listening to some tunes. I've just gotten back from 3 days without headphone access. I'm listening to a lossless flac file and stop to take the headphones off all of a sudden... I think to myself 'wtf are my headphones/ears broken?' What has changed in these 3 days? I sit back in disbelief as I pack another bowl of some decent 'AA' BC hydroponic, contemplating how I will pursue a music career being deaf, or at least having sub-par hearing. Then, I see winamp flickering through the different mp3 bitrates (as it does with variable on…

Vic Chesnutt in a coma - Americana and roots music - No Depression word is that it doesn't look good. a real fucking shame if he doesn't pull through. I saw him play with Widespread Panic NYE in Atlanta, 2001. I had no idea who he was and it was amazing. I have been a fan ever since.

  10. Is the mastering on the LP version as horribly compressed as it is on the CD or does it actually have a little dynamic range?

  11. Started by shaizada,

On the current 45rpm reissue of Coltrane Crescent (ORG Release), the second disc doesn't sit well with my VPI Periphery ring and I'm kinda lost on this. Basically the ring doesn't clamp the disc circumference properly. It flattens down one side, but the disc is short on the opposite end. So the disc ring just sits a little loft sided. Knowing the high quality of the ORG releases, I thought this is just a one disc fault or something. So I sent it back to elusive disc who send me a new replacement copy. SAME PROBLEM! Now I'm a little concerned. All the ORG releases in my collection are pretty much pristine...so I'm a bit bummed. Add to that about a 40 second t…

  14. Started by Dusty Chalk,

Anyone know of a good resource for determining the details of audio tracks of Blu Ray disks? I was browsing in the store, and if I hadn't picked up the Cure Trilogy Live in Berlin and looked at the back, I never would have known that there was a stereo 24/96 track on it. Wouldn't mind knowing if there are others out there. I'm sure there are some good high-res surround disks, but I'm of course mostly interested in stereo. Yes, I already know about the 2L label (DSD and such, music-only Blu-Ray disks), and of course the Nine Inch Nails Ghosts I-IV was the first Blu-Ray I ever bought. And yes, while googling, I did stumble across that Celine Dion disk. Perhaps if …

So I'm in the middle of a mundane sheetrocking job, and as such you tend to have some fun conversations. Today one of the subjects that popped up was misheard lyrics. One of my employees told me that he thought the line in Kenny Rodgers "Lucille" was "with four hundred children, and a crop in the fields". Where the line is actually "with four hungry children, and a crop in the fields". This got us laughing, and I admitted that when I was in high school I had thought that Neil Diamond's "Forever in Blue Jeans" was "Reverend Blue Jeans". I was actually disappointed to find out otherwise. So I thought it would be fun to find out what misheard lyrics my Head-Case buddie…

  21. I just noticed over on the Hoffman site that the current run of Blue Note reissues on 45 RPM vinyl will be coming out on SACD shortly. That is some very cool news even though I will have to figure out whether I want to cancel the vinyl subscription, double up some, or wait and see how they compare before making a choice. I will not cancel my other subscription to the Music Matters BN reissues because those are the most gorgeous LPs ever produced. Anyway, these remasters are so awesome that anybody who likes jazz even a little should be buying these things. Apparently $30 a pop, so that is $20 cheaper than the vinyl option.

  22. Started by Hopstretch,

The chart colors are a little iffy, but if you squint the conclusions are pretty clear. File sharing hurts record labels and benefits artists. Not only are artists now making much more money from live performances, but their total share of the music industry pie is growing as the labels' share declines.
