For those vinyl users, what online vendors do you use and trust? This would be for mostly new releases, I've got a few places around here that have bargain used bins but mostly the older stuff.

I know we have Shave-Case, but for those periods of wanting to keep hair have any suggestions for beard treatments to keep things manly soft and not bone dry? Currently using Viking Revolution Beard Conditioner and then alternating between Honest Amish Balm and Mountaineer Brand Beard Oil, but it's time to reevaluate the options. All ears.

So I am in need of a decent component video cable. It has to be somewhere between 15 and 20 feet long. The closer to 20' the better. Unfortunately, MonoPrice has 15 foot and 20 foot. I'd really rather avoid a 25' cable if I can help it. I checked on Amazon and found a few results: Amazon.com: 6M PRO SERIES COMPONENT (87206): Electronics ($22) Amazon.com: Icarus Black Carbon Component Video Cable (19.6 Feet/6 Meters): Electronics ($26) Amazon.com: Monster THX Ultra 800 16ft Ultra-High Performance Component Video Cables: Electronics ($20) Yes, Monster FTMFL, as a company, but that price is excellent. In my experience, Monster video cables are not horrid, just…

Hi! A few weekends ago, we visited my wife's grandma's house for a final time, as she was recently admitted into a home, and they are going to have an estate sale. This was a chance for the grandkids to sort of go through and pick any momentos they wanted. I thought it would be nice to take home her grandma's old vinyl and possibly play it a bit. I am not a vinyl guy at all, nor do i see myself really getting into it. So all I am looking for is a very cheap, small space, functional vinyl rig that my wife can listen to her grandma's old records.

Color E-Ink would be better, but either way, it will have very very long battery life. The best part is the Amazon "Whispernet" which is bascially using Sprint's EVDO network. Whether or not it has a full web browser that you can use for free has yet to be seen, but if you can surf for free, the Kindle will sell like mad. http://www.amazon.com/kindle Hardware wise, not really all that into the off white color that will get dirty really fast. And the whole left and right side being page turning buttons means accidental page turning galore. Interesting product, though. Pretty spendy at nearly $400. It should really be less than $200 if they want them to …

Maybe these are old news, but I'm often slow at finding this stuff. I have trouble both at work and at home with power strips that can basically charge my two phones, computer, maybe my slim, ipad, etc at the same time. I just bought one of these and will see how it works. quirky | Pivot Power Flexible Power Strip Any one else try it or have a better solution?

I am looking into getting a 360 degree camera for VR tours on campus (for hiring and recruiting grad students in the spring) and also just to play with for fun. I've been looking into the Ricoh cameras. Other suggestions are the Gopro Max but I already have a GoPro Hero 9. https://theta360.com/en/ Anyone tried any of these cameras?

To the limited few who have /had Senn Headphile woodies, the deep depth type, do you guys think they are worth it? Do they affect the sound in a positive matter? Any wood suggestions (except GE's ugly woodies). Maybe some crazy Ebony deep depth woodies?

My old Sanyo PLV-Z2 has been showing its age. Rather than dump another $250+ into a new bulb I decided a new projector was the way to go. So I just ordered a brand new Sanyo PLV-Z2000 . It is suppose to ship today, which means that I should have it by tomorrow, or at the latest Wednesday. It's exciting! but it will start a round of upgraditus. First up a HD-DVD player. For a little review go here http://www.projectorcentral.com/sanyo_z2000_home_theater_projector.htm

So...I've been thinking. I need to stop dragging all my CD's around with me everywhere. Especially to meets, and to friends' places, when I need a very specific subset of my CD's -- the ones with which I'm most familiar and like. My "test" CD's. So what's the best recourse? I'm thinking: laptop->DAC, perhaps external hard drive->laptop->dac. I was thinking about something like a hard-drive-based digital media player (basically, an external hard drive with a play button): ...or perhaps even: (Obviously, there are more entry-level-priced equivalents.) But I haven't heard anything really about the hard-drive based ones, anyone heard any of these tha…

I'm looking to replace my wired iPhone headset with a Bluetooth headset......I work remotely so I'm on calls a couple hours a day on average so comfort and call quality (including sufficient volume) are my top priorities. Not really going to use this much outside so looks aren't too important but I don't want it to look ridiculously geeky either. Trying to keep it under $60 but willing to go over if need be. I've looked online at several models and it seems like there is always someone who has a complaint about comfort or audio quality and I'm not sure which ones are just comments from nagging, never-happy consumers

I suppose it's well known, but I like that someone is pointing out the films lost with every expensive new video delivery format. Hopefully, online distribution will shift in the opposite direction. The Ballad of Blu-ray - A Cinephile Takes Stock - NYTimes.com

I've been a regular poster at head-fi and our local Singapore fora sgheadphones.net and jaben.net/forums. By accident I stumbled over this forum and I must say it's nice to add another enthousiast forum to the collection. One thing baffles me though, the anti-head-fi postings. People seem to like to snub at the "burn in rage" or the "Edition 9 love" that apparently is going on at head-fi.com. We've had spats between the Singaporean fora but they seem to be resolved now. I'm probably here but what's the deal?

I've never been allergic to anything my whole life, been woodworking on and off for decades and now it seems I've become allergic to certain woods! I've been getting little tender bumps on my fingertips for a few weeks and now after a couple of days going at it my whole hands and parts of my arms are now filled with a rash that's both very sore and itches like a fucker. I don't know which wood(s) might be causing it but it's really depressing. I ordered some barrier cream, got some work gloves and am taking Zyrtec and rubbing cortizone cream to get the itching down. I don't know why it's only affecting my hands as there's dust and chippings everywhere when I'm working…

I'm a moderate photography fan. I've had a couple of good reflex cameras for 35mm film, but since digital took over film, my only digital camera is a Canon Ixus 50 which makes OK pics. I've been considering to get a decent or maybe more than that digital camera, but there are so many options... All I know is that I'd like to avoid huge cameras (my favorite one was my Pentax A1) and now with digital LCDs maybe a reflex isn't that necessary. I started to look at some options and then the Leica M8.2 came out as a compact, versatile and probably great quality one, which would allow me to swap objectives. The problem is the price. At about USD6000 just the body and USD1300…

http://www.cnn.com/2011/TECH/web/02/22/24.bit.music/ Apple is among a group of digital music retailers in discussions with record labels to improve the sound quality of their digital offerings, according to a new report. Citing executives involved in the talks, CNN reports that the change would involve the labels supplying retailers with 24-bit audio files, as opposed to the 16-bit files that are currently distributed. “We’ve gone back now at Universal, and we’re changing our pipes to 24 bit. And Apple has been great,” said Interscope co-founder and chairman Jimmy Iovine. “We’re working with them and other digital services—download services—to change to 24 bit. And som…

I'm finding I'm not getting enough headroom on my Melos pot since the Northstar DAC outputs higher than my previous DAC. (And the Melos might have a pretty high gain) I like have a lot of room to play with on the volume knob, but right now I can't take it past 9 o' clock. Is there something I can do that won't degrade sound quality? This is only a problem with my HP-2, using the Melos as a preamp works fine.
