So as a counter point to the Massdrop amps, I also bought one of these Audio-GD units used. The R2R15 seems to have been replaced by the R2R11 which is more SMD based but it looks very similar. So this cost 350$ new, is not balanced but has a discrete R2R dac, discrete headphone amp and can also be used as a single source preamp. The Chinese version of the product page is still active: http://www.audio-gd.com/R2R/R2R15/R2R15CH.htm I must say it does look really fugly in real life (as so many of the Audio-GD product do) but it's amazing that they can do this for 350$.6 points

What can you say about our Nate? He's been with us for quite some time now. But I still remember that young man starting out in life, optimistic about the future... Then a little time went by and young Nate became Papa Nate. And beautiful Lily was brought into the world. Proud Papa Nate... Then a little more time went by and Papa Nate bore a Son, oh so cute little Andrew... And the happy family was formed... There was the inevitable lack of sleep, and the aging process happened, as it does to all of us... But let's all wish Nate a very Happy Birthday, and just hope that he never goes through a drastic change, and starts hanging with a bad crowd... The Happiest of Birthdays to you, Papa Nate!!!5 points

I forgot to tell you when I was there, but about two blocks from your house, I discovered this thing they call a store. It's magical (must be from the future), but you can walk inside and purchase thousands of different items.5 points

My wife was in Florida, she preemptively changed her flight from yesterday to later tonight....she said literally 2 seats left from FL to Boston, across 3 different airports. Then, maybe 1 hour later, her original flight was cancelled. Very lucky.... We lost power at 8:30pm last night, just got it back at about 5:15 this morning. Made the best of it with LED candles, and lots of pages in my e-book read. Going soon to the fridge to check out what's good or not, think all will be good. Hope others made it through OK!3 points

So I need to vent/laugh... I make my living in IT support for a large corporation and you would think that should rub off a bit on my parents. Nope! My stepdad is 78 and hasn't used a computer in 10 years and smart phones, forget about it. He decides to buy an Ipad and enlists the help of some guy at a bar (not me). What shows up is a fully loaded Ipad pro ($1000 +). Not bad so far right... He obviously wants to set it up right away (enter me). I'm walking him through the process and we get to the point where he needs the wifi info. He doesn't know the router name, asks my mom and she's unsure. I know what they usually choose for names and can see the router in the list. Now, for the password my mom grabs this piece of paper with a jumbled list of passwords (this list looks like its a lost Zodiac letter with red and brown stains on it). She then claims she remembers it only to realize after an hour that it's the password to the security camera system. My stepdad then asks well WTF is the password then? She screams at the top of her lungs what she can remember. This turned out to the the router name. Long story short I eventually remembered what I made the password out to be and it worked. That was three hours of my life I'll never get back. I have more, like trying to help them understand that apple ID's, email, and the passcode for an IOS device are not all the same thing nor will one password work for another. The other day Dad was looking up baseball stats on the ipad, Mom walks by and asks watchya looking at? He replies baseball stats. She asks so you're on the internet? He replies, no I have no idea what the internet is. Or my personal favorite, he bought ticket from stubhub. The PDF of the ticket says "printed tickets will not be accepted". He won't take mine or the ticket's word that he doesn't need them. He drives all the way to best buy and has someone there print the ticket out for him. I can go on and on2 points

My Dad's 83. Lugged his iMac to the Apple Store because "something was not working". Brought it home and it wouldn't start up so he called me. After 30 minutes on the phone we determined that the power cord was still in the trunk of the car.....2 points

Nothing significant here. The rain quit around 5pm last night and from then on it's just been wind and nothing super extraordinary at that. Sounds like the coast got hammered though, with lots of coastal flooding which may not be over yet with another super high tide predicted for noon today. We saw our highest recorded tide in a long, long time yesterday at work which is saying something since we just did the same in January during the last bomb-cyclone (brah). And no hanging 10 for me, Stretch. I'd like to stay off the Darwin Awards list this year.2 points

I know your pain! I work in IT as well, and am the resident geek for my family..... I especially love when I have to talk with one of the "older generation" and they describe EVERY single byte of what they see on the screen. And all of this just so they can click "OK" The other one I like is when they get an error popup, they say something like "It's yelling at me...." Users.....! I once told my mom she had the typical ID Ten "T" error (ID10T).....she did end up chuckling......2 points

Finally coming off the generator after the wind outage yesterday.. Great set ??1 point

I've actually plugged it in now and it appears to work but I'll try it out later on. I'm expecting great things, I mean it has to be at least as spectacularly bad as the Cavalli version. Just read the manual and check out the last page under servicing, apparently this thing has a tube which I must somehow have missed...1 point

No, I only got the CTH amp as well which should be here soon. The lack of heat sinking will be a problem here, why they didn't use the nice chassis as some form of sinking is just beyond me. It's a nice sturdy aluminum shell so it could take some watts easily. I will probably blow this one up in the name of science... Notice the pissant 2010 0.47R resistors for the output devices... yeah they won't last long.1 point

Maybe not Speaker Porn these days, but back In the day these were pretty hawt. Altec Model 19. Woofer: 15” 416 , Mid/high compression driver: 802 , Sectoral horn: 811 Very efficient: rated 104dB @ 4 foot sensitivity. Sound great with single watt SETs, but will still take 175 watts continuous. Too large for my current living room, been stored in my garage for years. Fired them up today....my neighbors were not amused.1 point
