  1. Circa 1996. Sony MDR-CD1700. I modified it recently for a balanced amplification. Stock is single-end only with wiring going into the left earcup. The CD1700 is seriously awesome after the mod. It is super efficient and sound better than ever. Modded with Moon-Audio Black Dragon and Furutech 4.4 mm plug.

  3. Made trip #2 to empty a storage unit for my dad. Good and bad news: Bad - he needed my help, he has had 2 hip surgeries but now has an inner ear "thing" and needs a walker for balance. Was pretty tough to see, but he is quite the trooper Good - what I was cleaning out was about 24 boxes of LP's and acetates....I'll try and see what's there (some are pretty fucking dusty/dirty, and some of the older acetates have broken) Bad - Karen (who is up in our Maine condo, I'll join her Saturday) is gonna be pissed at all these boxes in our dining room Good - there may be a couple store owners or contacts interested in the lot Bad - the condition of many of these is not what I was hoping But, unit 578 is clear, and he won't have to spend $400 for the next lease/payment.....

  5. I decided to go custom I'll get some pictures after I ensure all my fingers are intact. I ordered some of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075K4CTYM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 on Amazon to work with my drill press to make some holes with this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0061J5B2Q/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I'm not sure if Nate has prior claim with anyone cutting holes, or if that just applies to woodworkers. Oh .. and this:

  7. We're one of the lucky few in Los Gatos / Santa Cruz mountains (so far) that didn't have to grab the go bag and head out. A huge portion of the people are evacuated and may not be able to come back for awhile assuming they have something to come back to. I am amazed that the amount of structures burned is as low as it is given the size of the fires and inadequate resources. The firefighters have done and unbelievable job. Sometimes working 48 to 72 hours before being able to sleep. Fortunately, the Calvary is arriving from other states, national guard and other countries to help out.

  8. Another CFA is alive and well. Sorted out the issue with the bias when using the SS/ZF switch by doing the following (board rev 1.2): - Remove the 4 ZF jumpers near the 600pF - Increase R44/R49 to 50K - Increase R50/R51 to 4.2K - Remove C9/C10 Set at 190mA, plays beautifly in both modes. A must-have as reference in the amp collection. Thanks to KG for developing this amazing circuit!

  21. I used to hang out in Los Gatos a lot so I have many friends in the Santa Cruz Mountain areas. I've tried to contact a couple but most have either been evacuated or trying to keep their lines open for emergency contacts. Scary times down there and I have my fingers crossed that they have homes to return to.

  22. There is also one winding only on my friend's 007ta. No any other copper wire sticking out. Seems bridging the cut winding for voltage change is not possible on those latest models anymore.

  23. Can't speak to the egg but find steaks can be prepared to perfection on the pellet smoker. Smoke @ 225 until internal temp is about 100. Wrap in foil. Turn the heat up to 550 -600 or as high as it will go. Unwrap and put back on. Reverse sear both sides and flip as needed every 30 seconds or so until your internal temp is about 5 less than you desire. Perfect every time and you get all the smoky goodness However, like all such things, there are several ways to the perfect outcome. Use the one you like.

  26. I spent the evening tidying and organizing my desk. Cable management, schmable management. My studio is in the corner of an unfinished basement, and I think this fall and winter I'm going to try framing in a room and finishing it.

  30. Yeah. Not very good, there's no detail and everything sounds all muddled. The drivers are just too slow to sound any good.

  31. I do always remove the damping inside the earpads so that's well worth it. The older ESP950's (remember they have been in production for 30 years) also had damping on the back of the drivers which has to be removed.
