  7. Strange Angels. In her earlier stuff it was either speech or vocoder. For Strange Angels she had to go to singing lessons. On other topics: The Ring. Saw the whole thing live three years ago here https://lfo.org.uk/ . Each part was separated by a day, so the whole thing fitted into a week. Awesome. My wife is not a Wagner fan, but she was in tears at various points, and latched on to the massive story arc of the whole cycle. And if you like Gould, and a very strange guy he was too, buy the boxed set of everything he ever did. 40 CD's. It is particularly interesting to compare his two recordings of the Goldberg Variations, one as a young man and one a year before his untimely death at the age of 50. They are very, very different. In all his recordings you have to ignore his grunting though.

  10. So much of Laurie Anderson's genius is as a performance artist. That being,.. I suggest doing some long winded trolling on YouTube.

  11. Find Dom and stay safe, my Floridifriends. Today at work I went to my second Toastmasters International meeting (something that was recommended to me by my Mentor at work.) We drew cards randomly to see who had to give a 2-3 minute "table talk" or a full-blown 5-6 minute speech. I had nothing prepared, and it was my first time speaking, and the area director was there, so of course I went with the 5-6 minute option, because fuck it. I did an off-the-cuff speech about cycling, bringing up the joys of youth, how I had used it as PT, and segued into a few quick tips for getting a "real bike." I got high marks on the speech, especially for off the cuff. I surprised the evaluator by going with a PT angle instead of straight fun, and it rounded out our day with something more enjoyable, as the first speech was work related, the second was tips on voicing during a speech, and mine was interesting. The area director who was sitting in on our meeting today wound up doing a good speech, and won the "best speech" prize, but coming in second to someone who's been doing this for years, who had the framework of this speech worked out, isn't a bad way to jump into a new program. Doing the entire speech with my fly unzipped, however, may come back to haunt me. **BRENT**

  13. Brent and I are negotiating a Project Cars racing evening on Saturday around 10PM EST or later. Anyone else interested? I also just bought a long HDMI cable, HDMI repeater and active USB cable to see if I can get the Oculus to work with a significant cord length for whole room VR since Touch and extra sensors go on sale on Monday... I hope it works because while racing games will still be #1 the whole room walk around VR is just plain cool

  14. I bought the black Delrin one on ebay from knoberik and haven't had a chance to put it in an amp but it looks good quality and Stax headphones plug in fine. It looks like the same guy is making the teflon one... not sure why he made a different account.

  19. Why not just use a thermal switch on AC mains? Check out the Cantherm product line at Digikey.

  20. I've tried B+ relay from this article, but haven't tried the AC relay: http://www.audioxpress.com/article/arduino-based-tube-power-amplifier-controller/9883 The included C code got temp. sensing, so you can adapt it to your need. I used Adafruit Pro Trinket, half price of the Arduino board and it uses the same IDE.

  21. Actually, the microZOTL 2.0 is licensed from Berning by Linear Tube Audio, who also build a number of Berning's other designs. I used a Berning EA-230 amp for a number of years for my Quad electrostatics - nice amp. The big thread on H-F is largely about substituting better power supplies for the original switching PS. I heard a demo of different power supplies at the Albuquerque Head-Fi meet earlier this year, and it does make a difference, but it also gets expensive pretty fast.

  22. The Bioshock 1 & 2 "remasters" have been an absolute shit show on PC. Both just got patched, in theory resolving most of the issues. Steam is downloading both updates for me right now. I'm kind of hoping the remaster for the first game actually runs on my machine. I've been waiting 9 years to play it.

  23. There's a version 2 out, licensed from Berning by some nice gents called Urban Audio....big stuff over on H-F, but this time rightfully so IMO. Have one myself.... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

  26. I love Laurie Anderson. Remind me, some time, to tell the stories of seeing her live. I have that on CD somewhere, but don't remember it beyond confirmation that yes, it was mostly an art piece, not that there's anything wrong with that. I should dig it out and give it another listen. George -- I am not Craig, but: Big Science and United States I-IV Live. EDIT: Oh, and without a doubt: I wasn't at the New York show, but I was at the DC show just a couple days earlier, but immediately after 9/11, and it was just her and her backing band, with no performance art whatsoever, and it reminded me just how powerful she is with even just her music.
