Fuck in snow

Featured Replies

Just finished shoveling after three and half hours.  I really should buy myself a snow blower.

Our house came with one in the basement which we smugly thought was going to make this easy. We just learned that they are next to useless when the snow is deeper than they are tall.

  • Same as every gay bar I've ever entered.

  • We lost power for about 12 hours which is nothing, all things considered, and we've got the generator/transfer-switch so it was really only out for 4 hours because I didn't feel like setting it all up

  • Side benefit of all the late snow, the ability to snowshoe with the kids.  Got andrew out for a little walk in the woods this afternoon.

^ Glad to hear it Dan!

Agreed. This one is the suckiest winter I can recall since moving to Chicago in the late '80s.

Word.

Although the kids sure had fun today!

Yup.  When I first moved into our house, I wondered why my neighbors would go out multiple times during a large storm with their snowblowers (I previously was in places where I or a condo association handled shoveling/plowing).  Then I saw the trouble one had when he didn't....

We have a plow service, but we're still out there shoveling the parts they don't get (walkways, right up to the garage doors, steps, etc).

Nate, do we get another camera view of your tractor runs?

I was let out of work at 1pm today because of the snow. We're expecting 3-5 inches, (the superstorm that shut down Atlanta a couple weeks ago was 2 inches), so I went and got a pizza myself. The kids are elsewhere, riding out the storm, so I have most of a gallon of milk, plenty of bread (I don't know why we stock up on this stuff when weather gets bad, but we did it for cereal and grilled cheese sandwiches), and most importantly... 4/5's of a bottle of bourbon.

Oh! I JUST realized that since I live in a house now, I can have a grill! I've been apartment dwelling the past 5 years or so, and haven't had that luxury!

/me has something else to shop for soon.

^ What Nate said.

My work/school district, in its infinite wisdom, is mulling about doing an early release tomorrow.

Whoa.

Hope you are managing to avoid such chaos. At this time of year, I don't even notice an extra 2.5".

Am I the only one who thought "paging Steve?"

I'm waiting to see if Chattanooga and Atlanta handle things better this time around. At least schools were called off today.

I'm sure it would be much much worse here.  :)

I'm safe at home with wood for the furnace, plenty of food and bottled water, a large beer cellar and water in a cooler for the rest. Expecting up to ten inches of snow and half inch of ice. I'll still be online without wall power as long as I don't try to go down the drive.

Hang in there people. This one missed us in Chicago but we are definitely feeling your pain. Stay safe!

My daughter is there for school (well, at Duke in Durham) and she's having no trouble getting around in our AWD Subaru Impreza 2.5RS  >:D  >:D

Where is there to go in Durham from Duke that you can't walk to?

This winter straight up BLOWS.

Stay safe everyone.

This. For a northerner who has lived in the south, driving on ice just ain't happening, no matter how much experience you have. Well, experience does help, but not that much :) Without plows/salt trucks, the just ain't happening phrase does come to mind, and that is after driving thru a snowstorm here when they were running low/out of salt. Stay safe!

Supposed to go in at ten tomorrow... Yeah, doubt we're going to even do that. I have food, power, and internet. I think that will be what I do tomorrow, unless I can get my neighbor in a 4x4 to take me to work, or at least the top of the hill.
