February 26, 20242 yr I always underestimate how stressful and emotionally draining packing is. Even more so as I'm slightly downsizing this time around. Movers come Thusday!
February 27, 20242 yr my experience is the first half takes 90% of the time. Then half of what’s left takes 90% of the time. And so on until the heat death of the universe. i hate moving.
March 3, 20242 yr After a day of collecting maple sap and getting ready to boil some syrup tomorrow, Claire and I and Doug and Erika had dinner at Farm Club and are now attending the mixed double national curling championship in Traverse City!
March 3, 20242 yr Burning a lot of wood and boiling a lot of sap today. About 45 gallons has evaporated off so far...

March 5, 20242 yr @morphsci are you on the Canada or US side? Several great Ice Wineries on Canada side.....
March 6, 20242 yr (Sunday) Joanne's Australian nephew, who is currently based in New York, was flying into SFO to work with a client in San Jose as part of an ongoing project, and asked if it was possible we could meet up. So we decided to make a day/ afternoon of it and see what was worth seeing on the peninsula before meeting him. Who knew there was a 98 room beaux arts mansion/chateau in Hillsborough? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carolands https://carolands.org/ https://www.sfgate.com/sfhistory/article/california-gilded-age-mansion-carolands-17441886.php Or that there is a water temple just off I-280 https://sfpuc.org/learning/come-visit/pulgas-water-temple https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pulgas_Water_Temple https://www.sfgate.com/local/article/Pulgas-Water-Temple-Hetch-Hetchy-water-Crystal-14992239.php Then a bit of culture, art and history in Stanford University. Makes you think, doesn't it? More sights / (steampunk?) architecture at Stanford. It's amazing what being one of the big four robber barons will get you! And then on to meet up with Joanne's nephew @ http://buckswoodside.com/ They have a virtual tour of all their paraphanalia! https://matterport.com/discover/space/k6RtWhrenma Turns out Joanne's nephew's client is small $2T company some of you may have heard of. Their offices look nice. The project is due to last a couple of years, so we may be seeing more of Joanne's nephew in the future! Edited March 6, 20242 yr by Grahame

We drove to Niagara Falls and stayed overnight on the Ontario side. The las photograph in the previous post was from our room on the 30th floor of the Marriott Fallsview Hotel. Tuesday we drove back over to the US side and went on a three-hour tour of the various state parks associated with the falls. Stayed overnight in Utica, NY which is approximately half way. Had an excellent lasagna pizza for dinner. We drove back today and picked up our new rescue dog, Junie and now we are chilling at home until we pick up BearCub from the Doggie Spa at 4:00 pm. March 16, 20242 yr This morning I saw a rafter of wild turkeys by the side of the road. Three toms and more than a dozen hens. Impressive collection although it had a sort of Handmaid's Tail feel to it the way the toms were acting. Edited March 16, 20242 yr by Voltron
March 16, 20242 yr Was in the mid-40s and sunny today, took the bike off the trainer and decided to get the heck outside.

March 24, 20242 yr Last night I had dinner at a local French restaurant with Al's Niece Dorothy, Al's Sister Corrine and our friend Blake. Then Fairfax scoop. Then back to Dorothy's to play two games of Pegs and Jokers. Blake, who had never played before, brutally took us down swiftly both games. Even losing at Pegs and Jokers is still a great night IMO. And my discovery that said French restaurant has on it's menu possibly the best burger I've had anywhere since leaving Alaska.
