Thinking about getting an upright vacuum to use on the carpets. Right now I have a canister vacuum (cheapest Miele) and it is a real pain to use (I hate pulling around the canister... it keeps getting stuck. Also the vacuum has a very small head and it is really meant for hardwood floor/rugs). I was thinking of getting the Miele Jazz but I then reading up on vacuums, Sebo vacuums seem to be better. Anyone used a Sebo vacuum before? Where would I buy one? Needs to have: HEPA filter, uses bags (not bagless) and it would be nice if it were easy to find the bags locally, upright, lots of suction.

Joanne wanted to see Vancouver, so that's what we are going do next week. Thanks to the internet (esp. Hotwire.com: Discount airfare, hotel reservations, car rentals, vacation packages and cruises) , we've arranged transport and accommodation downtown at all the above locations 5 nights Vancouver, 2 Nights Victoria, 3 Nights Seattle, in that order (with coach / ferry Vancouver to Victoria, Victoria clipper to Seattle) We plan on mostly walking / using public/mass transit, but we might rent a car for one for one day to visit whistler, depending on the weather while we are there. As ever, Chowhound Boards - Chowhound, have come up with lots of recommendations for …

I'm very sad to report that our very own Carl Stephen "ironbut" Koto passed away on July 2, presumably from the lung cancer he informed us about in late May. Several of us have been concerned about his absence and both Ric and I (and maybe others) tried calling him to no avail, eventually receiving notice that the line was no longer in service. I tried searching for information but did not find anything until this morning I finally found a death notice for Carl Koto in Eugene, Oregon at age 66, and that must be him. 😢 Steve was a great and gentle guy and a fantastic Head-caser. His reel to reel rig will be remembered as one of the all-time best headphone experiences …

Have a work related question... We have a PC that streams videos from sources like Bloomberg and MSN... The issue is the videos all have varying volume levels. Are there any software or hardware options to normalize volume on the fly? We are using stereo analog audio outputs.

I'm looking to sell some of my vinyl. I've sold plenty of CDs online, but I've actually never shipped vinyl. Does anyone have an recommendations for boxes to ship vinyl in safely? My go to source for this kind of stuff is usually Bags Unlimited, so I'm looking at these: http://www.bagsunlimited.com/p-3129-album-mailer-folder.aspx Anyone have an other recommendations? Thanks!

Be just like the Cool Kids, with their fancy Vinyl. "Why would anyone buy vinyl in this day and age?" "To be really cool," says Mark Wadhwa, one half of the pair behind the Vinyl Factory, which in 2003 rescued the EMI vinyl pressing plant in Hayes from closure. "Everyone can download. If you've got a vinyl record you're different." Vinyl: The business duo who believe it's got a big part to play in music's future - Telegraph

Taking Julie to the French Quarter for our third year anniversary (Aug 12th). Can't believe she has tolerated me for three years now! We get in to New Orleans at 7:25pm on Aug 8th and fly out at 4pm on Aug 12th. Already have tickets for the WW 2 Museum. Any suggestions from those in the area or have visited the region in the past? Neither of us drink so the suggestions need not revolve around bars unless of course they serve good food/have good music. I don't do well with loud music in closed off places so suggestions for open areas would be great. Also, looking for suggestions for non touristy food places that don't cost an arm/leg. Something the locals would enjoy. The …

I am well aware many of you are from head-fi. I read somewhere that mentioning this site on head-fi can get you banned. I never mentioned it but i've been banned for a few months. It was supposed to be a temporary ban for 1 month but that didn't happen. So i messaged then and got no response. In response to such i made a new account which was banned again. So i tried again and it was also banned with every post being deleted. So in frustration i have now created a new account and issued an appeal on the website itself hoping they will have a heart and at least tell me whats going on. I joined here as i felt it looked like a good alternative to head-fi and didn't want to s…

It could be argued that one of the root causes of the current problem was "faulty" risk analysis. Whether the risk analysis was faulty by design or intent is left as an exercise for the reader. The following post from comp.risks is posted verbatim as it seems to be so on topic - and apolitical. ***** A lot of the comments in RISKS-25.34 seem to imply that the people running the financial firms were stupid and/or careless in not doing a correct risk analysis. These people are not stupid or careless, merely greedy, unscrupulous and irresponsible. They did a careful risk analysis all right, and then made the decision to deliberately feed false information i…

  22. After a two year headphone hiatus, I'm back, having just purchased some SR-009's, coupled with being in Reykjavik and finally meeting Spritzer in person. His hospitality has been great and I'm thrilled to have the new headphones; on the downside, I'm going to need a fuck-ton of money to properly amplify my electrostatic collection. So, before you think of giving to UNICEF or some Ebola research site, please contact me - I'm not sick and I need amp money!
