Just in case anybody was watching.... We're all pretty happy around here today that my friend and former colleague Getty photographer Joe Raedle, AFP photographer Roberto Schmidt, and AFP reporter Dave Clark were released unharmed today after being captured by Libyan forces on Friday. Considering what a nasty place Libya has turned out to be (50-some attacks on journalists and a couple of fatalities in just a couple of weeks) and the circumstances of of Joe's going missing, which weren't auspicious, we were sweating it big time. We're pretty relieved. Welcome back Joe! http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/florida/fl-raedle-libya-20110322,0,1737314.story

  3. ...today a co-worker informed me that she had bought five bottles of Flor de Cana centenario duty-free at the airport in Nicaragua. When she arrived at the states, customs told her she could only take two and that the limit isn't an airline limit but TSA's limit (though she did say the guy was a complete douche). This seriously sucks, as I wanted to bring back at least four bottles (two Flor de Cana and, if found at airport duty-free, two Havana Club, if not, some other stuff). The thing is, I can't find anything on TSA's website concerning the limit of bottles, and my coworker admitted that just three weeks before her husband had returned from Nicaragua with five b…

Oh, dear. http://news.cnet.com/8301-13645_3-20029913-47.html via: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?p=607150 My take. The information content of losslessly compressed file and the original is identical. Try comparing the md5 hash of the source, and the expanded compressed file, or do a bitwise diff to see if that is the case. (Poor analogy: a word file reads the same, if came as a .doc file or contained in a .zip file) I think he's confusing the data container with the playback system, or succumbing to expectation bias: So while lossless audio compression (FLAC or Apple Lossless for example) can be "expanded" to produce an exact digital…

I noticed that you can cuss and say just about anything you want in this forum. But I posted a tread a few weeks ago requesting some dating advise and it quickly got locked. Not sure why it got locked, but this site is surely taking a dive and I think it is because the interesting treads are being locked. Are we limited to only talking about really boring stuff here?

I'm looking to sell some of my vinyl. I've sold plenty of CDs online, but I've actually never shipped vinyl. Does anyone have an recommendations for boxes to ship vinyl in safely? My go to source for this kind of stuff is usually Bags Unlimited, so I'm looking at these: http://www.bagsunlimited.com/p-3129-album-mailer-folder.aspx Anyone have an other recommendations? Thanks!
