For another sign of technological and cultural changes, the first signs of todays LA quake seemed to start with Twitter posts and then spread to traditional media. Here is an example.

  3. I need a little Head Case advice and attitude. I received a pm yesterday from the other site regarding the EC/SS I put up for sale a month ago. The buyer is new and has three posts and no feedback to his credit. The prospective buyer has offered to pick up postage and PayPal costs and wants me to ship the EC/SS to Israel. I live in Southern California and the thought of shipping something outside of North America has me a little concerned about the amp ever arriving even if insured or the buyer claiming the amp never arrived. I see substantial risk of the buyer claiming he never received the package and requesting a refund. Over the years and after reading so many hor…

  4. So I put up my cellphone for sale on craigslist and these lowball offers are just pissing me off. My asking price is $350 and people are emailing me with $250 and even $150! I want to tell them to just go fuck themselves, but may be I should waste some of their time as payback? What do YOU usually do in these situations?

  6. Clearly everyone in this forum shares a passion for quality audio reproduction. Regardless of location, financial situation, age, gender, or any other differences we may have, we are united in this passion. My question for all of you is: How and when did you first realize that you wanted more from your audio system? And what did you do about it? I'll start with my story. When I was 15 years old (I think) I asked for a pair of noise canceling headphones for Christmas. I received them from my cousins, a pair of $50 Targus noise cancelling headphones. I loved them! In retrospect they were crap, but I was ecstatic about them. I used them for a while, and then one d…

It's a "hippier" version of what I've aimed to create here. Howard Rheingold is one of the great visionaries of online community, and he gives an interesting, short interview about the well. It's now for sale, but I imagine it will end up disappearing, and that will be a sad day.

  8. Started by postjack,

So I'm humidor shopping. Anyone know of a good online retailer? I've been browsing around at Thompson Cigar, and I really like the looks of this one.. Seems to fit the bill: spanish cedar, good size. Hard to know the quality though without holding it in my hands, but I'd like to avoid paying full retail at the local tobacconist if possible. Having said that, I'd rather pay for quality the first time rather then struggling through a bunch of crappy humidors. Where I live its hot and humid most of the year, if that makes any difference. Thanks!

  10. Not sure if any of you follow weather events for fun, but I bet Hurricane Irene will impact many of you East Coasters. If you are interested in following the event unfold, this link is about as good as it gets: http://www.talkweath...carolina-coast/ Looks like it will grind against the East Coast from N. Carolina to MasNoNoNoNoNoNosetts. It definitely has the potential to cause some serious damage. If you live in NYC, mass transit is expected to completely shut down for possible evacuations. If any of you are expected to feel the effects, stay safe and prepare now.

  11. Not sure if many of you are following this, but it really has a chance to be a historic storm in New England. Good link to follow: http://www.talkweath...inas-northward/ I hope some of you in the area are stocking up, because this one will be a long ride. Stay safe.

Shelly's cousin Hurricane Harvey is wreaking havoc over the Texas gulf coast. I just wanted to share that we have been in contact with Shel and Steve and both are ok. Steve moved inland and is going to try to get back home today to assess any damage. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

while it may not be you, i find it hard to think of anyone else who would send me 2 pms on headfi from different accounts saying "this is an interesting pm, interesting to cj that is." while it was funny for a while and i appreciated the humor at my expense, it is no longer cute since it requires me to actually do something to delete a nonsensical pm from my mailbox. unlike headcase, headfi doesnt give me a billion pm's so i have to clean it out every so often. i wish you would stop. do it all you want in the chat, i dont care but if i have to take the time to actually do something about it, then imo, i have something bitch about. take this to be another immature rant…

  14. When I am in the store trying some new stuff I just cant choose a single shit from it. Just today tried 10 CD's and only one came a bit closer to my liking, so, I am starting to asking myself: "Whats wrong with me?" I listen to a lot of differ gengres, not all kind, but still, but seems that my collection arent going to be huge, ever... For example R.Blackmore's last project, Blackmore's Night, I HATE every single piece of it. I forced myself to buy double live CD and after just couple of minutes I am done... On the other hand, J.Lord write pretty cool music, after leaving DP. Am I dumb to understand or just to old fashion, inflexible ass:asshat:

I've been lurking and posting on head-fi DIY section for sometime now and I did not know that this site existed. Whoa, this site is EXACTLY what I need. Thanks. Whoever started this is akin to diyhifi starting their own site after getting shitted by diyaudio. Head-fi has long lost it's colors by holding an absurd amount of ignorance and fanboyism WITH actually mods protecting them. WTF? Here I don't have to deal with being nice when a product is really overpriced and when it's not really hard work R&D like how it's claimed to be.

I've spent the last 3 days boarding up peoples homes and condos on this island. I don't really like that kind of work, but many of my customers don't know where else to turn. Most of my customers are in the very wealthy bracket, and I like to keep them happy. I just finished boarding up my own place 15 minutes ago, it's been a very long day. I have three more houses (mansions) to board up tomorrow, and then tomorrow night I'm hitting the road. Unless of coarse the storm (Ike) has moved significantly north by then. I have the motorhome loaded with groceries and fuel, and I have a reservation at a park in San Antonio. I should have internet access there, so I should p…

  18. I was cleaning out my ears and my sink in my second bathroom doesn't drain well and started to fill up. I foolishly had my Zen on the towel rack right above the sink and of course in fell right in. I was only submerged for a second or two but that was enought for it to start flashing primary colours and then settle on the color pink for a while and then switch to blue and then black. I immediately opened it up and dried out all the water I could see. I put it on one of the air induction vents for the central heating in hopes that it will dry out all the way and work in a few hours. We'll see! This could be the excuse I've been looking for to buy a new portable. The pr…

In my other post, I thought I'd seen something that would define the ridiculous but now I'm not so sure it can stand up to this: So tell me...just how did a kid who CAN'T READ score a 22 on READING COMPREHENSION? I don't know what's more ridiculous....the thought of a kid who can't read trying to make it in college or that his family thinks they could possibly win a case in court. On what grounds? How could a judge allow that? How could that decision be defended legally and morally? I know it's all about $$ but what happened to the integrity of a college degree? If I'm an Ole Miss grad, I'm raising he!! over this one. Just plain crazy IMO.

Hey guys, just felt like bragging... some of you might recall i've been searching since I graduated in May. i just landed a pretty decent job doing software development. The company provides email hosting sort of similar to Gmail and has some pretty good clients. It's a very small startup (5 years old I feel). They are very enthusiastic abotu having me aboard, and hired me mostly for my personality (more so then my non-existant pro experience in coding). I am so dam psyched u guys got no idea... After like 15 interviews this summer I just about had it. I've heard just about every excuse for No, lots of people just refusing to call me back, and idiotic head hunters t…

Post #200! I haven't had much time to check in here lately, so I didn't spot my birthday thread until today. It birthday went well, almost as well as my wedding, May 10th!!! A brief summary: The weather was perfect, not a single cloud in the sky and hardly any wind. The minister (who happens to be my father-in-law) held a touching ceremony. Our hired photographers did an outstanding job (it seemed, haven't seen the processed pictures yet). The reception went well. The chef made a delicious meal, the wedding cake was gorgeous and I managed to pull off a decent wedding speech for the bride despite being pretty nervous (btw, sleep is overrated the night before the …

  23. Its not like I discover this by now, hell no, but listen...Sometimes you begin to think about the situations and the things become more complicated than clear. Just today I was having a drink with several people because one of our female collegaue were leaving the firm. Before that, she invited, personally, all that folks, include me, so its not like I am really that important or anything, however not everyone were welcome after all, especially that we are not worked at the same department. To make this story short I will say this. When I talked to her, lately, you having about one thing, but if I were looking in her eyes, I just saw something different...And that diff…
