When I went to bozebuttons's house for a mini-meet, I got to spend a lot of time with the high end grados (the vintage RS-1 and the HP-1/2/3 especially) and I realized that the 225s doesn't have the sound that I want nor can it scale the same way that the other two phones can. So, I'm trying to get less shrill treble, a more fuller sound (esp in the low end) with better extension in the lows and a slightly bigger soundstage that keeps the grado sound. Does that sound like the MS-2i's? PS. and my 225s are woodied, which does fix the problem (with the bass and the soundstage) a small amount but not enough to my liking.

I got a question (or a few...). Would buying a pair of SR60s be a good way to see if I liked the Grado 'sound' so to speak? Also, would it be a good way to tell if Grado headphones were comfortable for me or not? Or are all the lines of Grado cans different?

Ok, I know this is probably a "personal preference" type thing, but I am looking to buy my first real pair of headphones sometime soon. I have always used IEMs and am currently using se530's, which I love, it is just too hard to keep taking them and back out everytime someone at work (or at home) comes over to talk about something. I don't have a budget, but I'd probably try to stay in the 200$ or below range. I'll be using iPod->portaphile/pico or macbook pro->pico as a source. I listen to a huge range of music, but love live music and want to feel like I am on stage with them So.. to my question.. what are the differences in sound between the grado sr60/80/…

A friend alerted me to this and I didn't see it posted anywhere else: http://gizmodo.com/5990520/scientists-have-made-graphene-earphones-and-theyre-amazing I'm not really surprised that a membrane that thin yet strong can produce good sound. But I am excited to see who adopts this tech first and what sort of amp is required to drive them.

Hi guys, I had a Sennheiser HD595 for many years and that was an okay headphone and I've used it for 8 maybe close to 10 years now, but now that I'm beginning to learn musical instruments and starting to appreciate music for fully, I'm in the market for a set of new headphone and was hoping if anyone could perhaps point me in the right direction or better yet, give me a few recommendations. The headphone's usage will be primarily for home listening. The range of music will be predominately classical & flamenco guitar (acoustic), piano, and sometimes jazz, blues, progressive rock, ambient, electronic (lol i guess i listed pretty much all the genres here) but …

Well my pair of gs1000s arrived today. One of my largest complaints with Grados has always been comfort or for me total lack of comfort. I don't think I've ever been able wear Grados before without my ears starting to hurt after an hour. The GS-1000's solve this problem and are the first Grados I've been able to wear for extended periods of time without any discomfort. So for me the comfort is a big plus, I wonder what took them so long but at least they figured it out. Few observations about their sound so far... Soundstage is big for Grados I'm not convinced its that big compared to other headphones though. I think what might be giving people that impression is th…

There is an odd mark that looks like an imperfection on the wood that shows up under T in "statement" in a few of the photos. Can't for the life of me figure out what is causing that, because it definitely isn't there when I look at them. Impressions to come!

Bonnie has a pair of PX 100s that she loves for the office, but needs more (our at least some) isolation. The other alternative would probably be the Urbanites. But those seen a bit visually imposing.

So I sold some stuff and want to use the money to hardwire my K1000s. Should I go Equinox as tried and true, or explore other options. I've only heard a Mogami hardwire, which offered minimal improvements to my ears and made the highs a little too much for me (I'm overly sensitive in this area), and the Equinox, which I liked very much, but heard it on a system very different than my own, so can't really compare. What have you guys heard that you could recommend? I'm using an Exemplar modded Denon 2900 > Extreme Platinum > FirstWatt F1. If I can't decide soon, I know I'm going to blow my money on that dang TakeT group buy, so help me out here.

After using low-end earphones so far, I finally decided to upgrade by buying Harman Kardon's NC. Being new to high-end headphones (or whatever they are) I have a quick question for you audiophiles.... It seems that sound quality in left and right (irrespective of the song & who is listening i.e. me or my wife) is slightly different. Overall sound quality when listening from both sides is just fine. But, I am wondering, if this imbalance is normal (what do I know about headphones?) OR is it a technical defect? Hoping for some genuine help!

I wondering if anybody has heard the MS1i. The original ms1 was pretty good, any improvement may make it the best 100 dollar headphone available.

I've heard both but not at the same time and the times were too far apart, hence my own experience fails. Anyone else heard these and compared them? Normally I'd just go ahead and buy an SA5000 to find out but funds are running pretty low for me right now, was wondering how much percentage of the Qualia the SA5000 offers. I love the Qualia but it's an awful lot of money to keep to one headphone.

I'm thinking about picking up a pair of these or MS2i headphones. The problem is that I have never read anything on the MS Pro. Have any of you auditioned them? What were they like?

Recently I borrowed HD580 (NOS) from my friend. I hook it up to the meager Glite and Pico DAC. The more I listen to it, the more I prefer it to my KGSS/O2 Mk2+Stello. I have to admit that I'm the stat mafia ever since I left dynamic. I have HF2 which is gathering dust now, I sold my K701 but this is something I absolutely can live with albeit not as great as stats...... Does anyone here thinks that these measly HD580 is up to notch with the big boys ? Or my taste in SQ has taken a step backwards? I mean as of now and switching back between the O2, there's not way of differences there. :palm: Edit : I used to borrow HD650 from the same guy. boring. didn't like it. I…

If you have several headphones at your disposal..and one or more has set idle for several months, you plug in and something is amiss. The phone in question has played for several hundred hours previously and is well broken in...but the Bass is threadbare and a bit lumpy..the treble is closed and has a nasal stridency, while the midrange is recessed and hollow sounding. Then after 2 to 6 hrs. of healthy playback things flesh out and the balance and tonalities also timbers are as you remember. Has the driver surround stiffened? Has the diaphragm itself loosened and lost the piston properties? Has the hole flow alignment that permitted electron flow closed, th…

Hello, I would like to ask for your help in selecting my new set of phones. The characteristics they should have are: To be comfortable (this might be very subjective, I know, but give me you opinion) as I will use the for long periods of time; To be durable (cables and specially connections should be resistant) as I am not the best owner for my gear; To be noise insulating (I will use them to be able to focus while working in busy places); To be portable. The sound should be crispy (I mean I am not really a lot into heavy base) and light. I don't know if this is an accurate descriptions but it is what comes to mind. I listen mainly…
