I searched for the best and pretty bass heavy headphones under $200. I narrowed down my search to: Denon AH-D1100 and D2000(I have somewhere to buy it for $200) Ultrasone 580 and 780 V-Moda Crossfades LP I want to know which one is best for: DnB Dubstep Techno Rock/Metal Rap I want a bass close to overpowering but not overpowering. A nice soundstage is nice too. I also need an amp and DAC or amp alone for less than $120,recommendations? It has to include a bass boost(the MoaR the better.)

Dear Headphone audiophiles, I want to buy the best headphones for listening to metal music. I recently purchased sE electronics The EGG speakers with amplifier and have concluded that they have way too much bass. I was disappointed when I placed a AKG K240 headphone in my Focusrite Forte usb soundcard and heard tons of details in my favorite records that I had not previously heard. I love hearing all the tiny details the artists intended us to hear. From what I have researched, any speakers/headphones that are fantastic for classical music will likely be great for metal as well (clear highs, good mids, little bass). Haven't got around to ordering a K701 replacement yet. Considering AD2000 for A-T's proven noggin-friendliness. Source: PC > Fireface > Max or direct from FF Gets tossed around a lot (the K701 ended up looking very secondhand before it died, and the HD650 doesn't look a lot better). Unsure whether the AD's will hold up. If they're anything like the A900 / A1000 the chances are not so I'll avoid. Yay or nay. And why. Ok, I generally hate these "advice" type threads but dammit, I'm considering some serious insanity and want the opinions of the other inmates at the asylum. I've been offered the opportunity to purchase a NOS HE60/HEV60 combo for what seems like a decent price so my questions are the following: 1. Is it worth abandoning (and selling) half my dynamic rig which would basically consist of the HA-2, both pair of Senn cans that I have and also the K340s in the name of a basic stat rig? 2. What would you consider a "fair price" for an NOS Baby O setup? Ugh, this is killing me.

From what I can tell there are two main competing companies when it comes to in-ear monitors: Sennheiser and Shure. I'm looking to drop between $200 and $400 on some nice in-ear monitors and wanted to make sure I get the best bang for my buck. I've checked out a few local music stores for information on in-ear monitors but none of their audio experts have too much experience with them and referred me to some online sources. Pick these up from a fine gent from head-fi. I had a similar set previously that I had to sell to raise some emergency funds. I felt guilty as soon as I did, and luckily was able to find another set. This pair is different, one being the black grado wooden box, and the slightly gold lettering on the L and R (the picture does a bad job of showing it). The cups are absolutely beautiful, and the font is really classy looking. Sound, for some reason these babies sound not only tolerable, but really nice with bowls. I was on the way up to US from Asia and transit at HK and bought airline adapter. As soon as the plane took off I plug the TF10 with the adapter into the airline seat. I leave the TF10 for a while and do some reading. When I'm ready to watch some inflight entertainment, I hold the left IEM and it burned my hand. Apparently the plastic right in between black and blue part melted (in the inside part) and I can faintly smell burning smells When it cold down I tried and have lost the bass responses. What's considered a good price for these? I've seen them going for upwards of $300 and I've found some for about $150. Is that a decent price?

How many of you have heard the new 701? I am liking this phone more and more. I think my beloved senn 600's could soon be #2. \ I cant get over how this headphone doesnt seem to have any noticeable flaws. Every phone I have heard to this point has had something I could identify as lacking. The 701 isnt an exciting phone but it just does everything well ..... and its so comfy. What do you think? After several weeks, I finally received the 701s. They've have a bout 85 hours on them now I'd say. I'm really starting to enjoy them and their, nice, deep, but not overpowering, bass. I've been running them mainly out of the Prehead, but I'm happy to report that they sound great out of the Gilmore v1. The soundstage is extremely vast, similar to the CD3000, but I'm thinking not quite as exaggerated. Still, the soundstage seems a bit unrealistic, but not distractingly so.

Apparently on July 1, Amazon started selling some new AKG phones. I have no idea how new, but I just noticed the ad for it for the first time. I find the 172 and 272 (both closed back) the most interesting myself, but I'm sure Fitz will get them all and tell us how they are.

Would these sound half decent as a system? I listened to K 701's a long time ago and kind of thought they sounded like ass*. Would having killer power on these babies do anything for them, or do they still sound like ass after "burn-in" and Nuculer Power. * ass as in they could not rock out. They were very dull sounding, even after about 1,000 hours of burn-in when running out of my amp. The sins of the K 701, in my opinion, are sins of omission. Interesting news from AKG. So I recently recabled my K1000 (did a damn fine job at it if I do say so myself). I was comparing them to Hirsch's Stefan Art hardwire K1000 and we noticed a decided shift in tonal balance. His had significantly more treble emphasis than mine (a little more detail and impact as well). So I thought 2 things...cable and age? I tried re-recabling them and got a little more treble but not like Hirsch's. So off to AKG they go because I thought maybe I fucked something up in the recable (unlikely as I was very careful, but possible). So I received my K1000's. Unfortunately the headband is a bit saggy. Does anyone here know how to re-tension this headband? I can either increase the tension on the headband or surgically lower my ears. I think I would prefer the first. Renato

Hi guys, I've got an AKG K1000 at Alex. I bought it second hand from HeadFi, but unfortunatelt one of the drivers is not working properly. So I'll need to find a new pair of drivers! Any idea whether AKG can still provide them? I've tried mailing them, no response yet. I'll give them a call later this week, but if you guys can confirm they don't have it in stock anymore, I won't bother and save the telephone costs (I live in the Netherlands). I was lucky enough to get some new K240's for Christmas this year. I have owned a pair of Hifiman HE 4xx's for a couple of years now and recently bought a set of Sennheiser HD569 closed back headphones for when the wife is watching movies a little too loud. I also have a pair of Samson SR850's which seem to be modeled after the K240's so I really wanted to try the real thing. I will have to admit that I wasn't real impressed by the 240's at first. The first amplifier that I hooked them to was my old Realistic SA-150 integrated amp. They really highlighted the deficiencies of that amp with the highs rolled off and a muffled sound like cheap bass heavy headphones. …

I just go these today, and overall I'm very impressed: they sound really good for their price. They don't have the technical abilities of other high-end phones, but they do no nothing wrong, have a very involving midrange, and an intimate soundstage. I do wish that their earpads are bigger/deeper, as their shallowness make them not really circumaural to my ears. But what surprised me the most was how hard they are to drive. I had to turn my Lavry up past where I usually listen at for the HD650s. I can't wait to hear them out of my soon-coming Dynahi.

Hey guys, At the last meet, I really enjoyed the k340's. They sounded great out of various setups, especially the zana. The bass was quite full and deep, I personally did not hear any issues or lack of. It was a headphile modded version though. I would really love to pick up a set. I have no idea though what I should be looking for. I have read about different versions. There seems to be an assortment of mods that can be done to improve performance, which I haven't quite grasped on. Ideally I would love to pick up a used set modded by a reputable user, just need to know what to look for and/or what questions I should be asking. Thanks guys.

Well, I am looking for a new set of headphones. There is a modded set currently for sale, based on various impressions I am interested. My favorite cans have always been the HP-1000's and L3000's. I have also owned and enjoyed the Senns 600 and 650's, RS-1's both new and vintage stock, PS-1's. Would love to hear all of your thoughts on the K340's and how they compare to what I am familiar with.

First of all my mailman is awesome. This is what it looks like right now outside my apartment. All that snow on the deck is fresh, and it's going to continue for another 5 or 6 hours. Starting up the K340 modding thread so anyone that has modded them could offer advice, impressions on how they sound, etc can do so. I'm looking to recable one of my pairs to a 4 pin male XLR, replace the elastics, replace the grill with some other fabric and replace the earpads with velour ones.
