Grok Headphones in Fullness

  1. Started by EdipisReks1,

My late 90's RS-1, which is my absolute favorite headphones (I don't know what words to use; is it a trouser or a pair; if anybody should know it should be me) in the world, need to be fixed. I think it's just a solder joint that became brittle. They have been like this for a while, but I could sort of nudge them. I called Grado about replacing the cable, and the woman (I assume a Grado relative, given her accent) could not promise that the drivers would't be replaced. In fact, she immediately mentioned that the drivers would be replaced, and I had to question her on that. The drivers have been blown into plenty of times. It's that sort of thing. Like a Rolex or …

  3. I have recently been playing with the new sennheiser HD25 Aluminium 25th Anniversary edition Trimmed I have, since listening to them, pulled them apart to see what other changes they have made. The headband and cable are pretty much the same as the HD25-1 mk II but they have silver text on the headband and flatter hinged in aluminium to match the earcups. The cable clamp is now held in place with black t6 screws rather than silver philips screws which makes them a little trickier to pull apart as you can not longer use a standard screwdriver. Inside, the drivers seem to be identical and have the same impedance but have a different holographic seal on them. T…

  4. Hi all, has anyone heard the Antique Sound - MG Head DT/OTL MK III with the AKG K701's? The reason I ask is I have a VAL E10 amp right now which I'm very disappointed in. It barely has anymore gain or volume than my iPod! Funny thing is it's rated for an output at 300mW into 100 Ohms. That seems like it has quite a bit more output than the Antique Sound - MG Head DT/OTL MK III. What is the input sensitivity of that amp? The Val is 750mV. Perhaps the ASL amp has a higher input gain? Any info into this would be greatly appreciated. I really like the exterior build quality of the ASL amp. Can you post photo's of the internal build quality? Thanks again for your time. I'm jus…

These models currently interest me for a future purchase, especially the MS-Pro. If anyone has anything to say about these, input is appreciated. Bonus points if you reference the HD580/600, K501, or MS-2.

Wikia Impressions: @n3rdling's HE90 Clones (out of BHSE): For those of you who might have missed the opportunity to listen to these you need to put it on your must listen to at the next meet he attends. Personally having never listened to the original Orpheus but loving my 007 MK1 out of the Headamp BHSE and hating the Stax 009's I felt at a loss. I mean the 007 MK1 is my favorite headphone I own but at times want something a little more refined that my HD800 SDR isn't doing. Well enter the HE90 clones I have heard these at one other meet I attended and it was out of the Headamp Aristaeus (oh yah the other e-stat amp Justin makes) and with the BHS…

Hi! I'm a Sennheiser fan and enjoying my HD 579 on my Dragonfly Red but would like to upgrade. I'm having difficulties choosing between the HD 660 S and HD 700 which are both available at around the same price. Any recommendations?

http://www.macatwork.net/luxurymac/prodotti.html These must be better than Bose. How ironic. Last night I was talking on IRC about how cables were like jewelry. Hehe, diamond iPod earbuds. "My iPod earbuds are more expensive than your IEMs!"

So I sold some stuff and want to use the money to hardwire my K1000s. Should I go Equinox as tried and true, or explore other options. I've only heard a Mogami hardwire, which offered minimal improvements to my ears and made the highs a little too much for me (I'm overly sensitive in this area), and the Equinox, which I liked very much, but heard it on a system very different than my own, so can't really compare. What have you guys heard that you could recommend? I'm using an Exemplar modded Denon 2900 > Extreme Platinum > FirstWatt F1. If I can't decide soon, I know I'm going to blow my money on that dang TakeT group buy, so help me out here.

my favorite headphone is the hd650, properly amped. i've not extensively heard the hd595 before today, but i just grabbed a pair from a local shop and have been listening to them straight out of my macbook headphone out, and i gotta say, these are a fantastic hd650 low power compliment! they have a very similar flavor... i think they actually sound better than the 650's straight from the hp out. i think i've finally found my ksc75 replacement. anyway, that's all i wanted to say.... mjb

  13. God is Good< I appreciate your clicking open this thread. Hello There, Folks of the planet. LOL, This will be my very first review of the K701. God willing, the following words you see will satiate your mind with Food for thought, of the Fast food TYPE! God willing, it will satiate you sooo well, that you WILL read this REVIEW OUT LOud, vocalizing the following descriptions of THE AKG k701 in beautiful song - with or without having the k701 itself - in ways that only the Planet's best Soprano can. Well, never mind. Not only are there plenty descriptions of the K701 out there, and NOT ONLY do I have equipment in my audio chain, that may or mAY NOT even be …

  15. Would these sound half decent as a system? I listened to K 701's a long time ago and kind of thought they sounded like ass*. Would having killer power on these babies do anything for them, or do they still sound like ass after "burn-in" and Nuculer Power. * ass as in they could not rock out. They were very dull sounding, even after about 1,000 hours of burn-in when running out of my amp. The sins of the K 701, in my opinion, are sins of omission. Perhaps Wes Phillips' ears are made of tin...

  18. Of course there's the obvious "I want $$$$" answer, but realisticly speaking, what should I tell her? She's familiar with the cost/nature of the hobby, but I don't want to completely stray her away from ever buying me anything audio related ever again with some extravagant want. So what should I tell her I want? It would be for something primarily used at home or when on the putor like now. But I would occasionally take it out wherever. Again, not expensive. So I was thinking along the lines of lower end Grados, K240, HD555, K81DJ, RP21, RP22,etc. Something lower end that doesn't give you sticker shock but is a good call. Basically, sub $100. Oh, it'll be dr…

I'm not in a position to buy these phones at the moment (medical bills are fun!), but the reviews that I've read suggest that they are the phones I've been looking for, and I should be financially whole, and hopefully healthy, in early 2019. Has anybody had a chance to listen to them yet? I'd drive them with my KG-perfected SP Extreme.

So I just read Darth Nut's review of the O2s, and wow, it is without a doubt the best review of a piece of audio equipment I have ever read, hands down, no contest. What really blows my mind is how conceptually clear the review was. He basically articulated a coherent conceptual framework for audio review and applied it to an actual piece of audio equipment in a consistent, logical manner and backed it up with supporting evidence. It combines both his subjective perceptual experiences and his concepts in a way that shows the reader his thought process. Honestly this should be required reading for anyone interested in describing audio equipments.

Folks, been searching high and low for review of this headphone but couldn't find an extensive review on it. All the infos are scattered here and there. One impression I found at HF during Dutch meet was some folks prefer this than HE60, did any of you agree with this statement? All the statements I found also said that this is an entirely different can than 404 Sig in a good/better way. Another question, this can is 1000 limited production with a price point not far from HF2 (was offered around $600 new), why is it still relatively available ? I mean its not that difficult to find new unlike HF2 which sold out already. Is it because its a stats thus not many peo…

We all knew this was going to happen but I've taken the SR-507 I got less than 24 hours ago apart. Stax does warn about any and all tampering voiding the warranty so don't try this at home kids. First off, lets remove those driver housings from the arc assembly (they just pull out like on the two other Lambda designs). Here are the 507 name plates: Now lest lift up the four corners of the earpads and remove the screws which fix the baffle to the back grill. The baffle just pulls out and we are greeted with this: Now this is very different from the other Lambdas, gone is the aluminum baffle with the driver glued onto it and now we have a mol…

So I picked up a pair of Stax SR-40 on ebay. I know they're electret and do not require a charge to be fed to them. They have the standard 5 pin stax plug it looks like. Can I use these with the current feedback electrostatic amp?

Hello I bought pair of SR-3 year ago. I knew they had failure, left driver was quiet, right driver was only little louder. After year I've decided to give them new life this spring. At the first I've discovered holes in diaphragm of the left driver as you can see in the picture. I decided to use 2um mylar to make new diaphragm for both drivers and self made coating with some antistatic spray+isopropanol. Now I am sitting with them and writing this post, they sound great, with good bass, with sweet and not sharp highs.
