Grok Headphones in Fullness

  1. I have a beyond super modded HD580 headphone cable and decided to share SOME of the mods on my site for free. I know some of these are already provided online on places such as head-fi, but I know for a fact the last part is not on head-fi or anywhere else. If I had missed something or made a mistake somewhere feel free to let me know. http://apuresound.com/hdsennmod.html Enjoy! -Alex-

  2. I sold my HD650s a little while ago and now I kind of regret it. I'm thinking of picking up another pair of 650s or 6XXs, but there are rumors that the newer ones that are assembled in Romania are somewhat different than the made-in-Ireland sets. However, Sennheiser has stated on the Drop website in this post: They also said in this post: Does anyone have any direct experience comparing older and newer HD650s and/or HD6XXs?

    Interested in this. A HD650 with more sub-bass. https://www.stereo.net.au/news/sennheiser-announces-hd-660-s-headphones

Hey guys! I am new to this forum just wanted to greet you all. I am about to purchase a pair of Sennheiser HD800's which I'm stoked for, but I was curious, are they great for their price, or is their other options? I would love to know, and all off your advice would be helpful. So is the Sennheiser HD800 worth it? I finally saved up the moollaaaah, now I feel nervous to spend it. I have the Bose quiet comfort 15's, Am I right in thinking that these will be a huge step-up? I also wanted to know, does the Sennheiser's have good bass? Also I found some reviews for it, and here is someone's blog that makes them sound like god. Are they correct? http://www.squidoo.com/great-he…

Time for some impressions of this rare beast. The Icelandic distributor has a set on loan and they carved an entire afternoon out of the schedule for me to try it and do some comparisons. I showed up with the HE90 I built from spare parts, Aristaeus, Carbon amp and a port modded SR-007Mk2. Since they were using the built in dac on the HE-1, I just plugged both amps into as well to equalize the comparison. Over all, I like the build quality of the headphones. Imagine a HD800 built properly and you are pretty much there. The leather earpads are super nice and the headband has nice extension to even fit my large melon. I don't think they are super comfy though …

  6. http://en-au.sennheiser.com/orpheus The cat is out of the bag. What do you guys think of the potential of the Senn HE-1060/HEV1060 combo beside breaking the bank? Thanks.

A pair of HE60 was given to me by a Thai friend. The phones must have been in storage for a long time as the vinyl on the ear pads come flaky off. So, I have to disassemble and clean the interior. Taking this opportunity, I take a few pictures. The diaphragm to stator distance is around 0.5 mm. There is nothing special on the stator surface. The HE90 is one of the best, if not the best, headphone I've heard. I'm currently using a Stax plug adapter to connect it to a HeadAmp KGSS.

  9. Two years ago, Sennheiser sold, through Meier Audio, around twenty brand new HE90 units. After several buyers mentioned they had problems (because they used the HE90 on other amps than the Sennheiser HEV90 amp), Sennheiser agreed to modify a bit the headphones so that they can work on any electrostatic amp on the market (because, if I understood correctly, the HEV90 amp had a very different bias than most of other current electrostatic amps). Does anybody know exactly what were the modifications made by Sennheiser at this new batch of Orpheus headphones?

I just snagged myself an Electret combo of Sennheiser Unipolar 2002 / HER 2000. They sound pretty good, but sadly they are imbalanced (left needs about one third boost...). I took the headphones apart, but could not find any problem, but I wonder about the control box. Does anyone have any technical information on the control box HER2000? Or does anyone know if the speakers can be run any other way, without the control box or with an adaptor to a Stax amp / energiser?

After getting myself a pair of Jecklin Floats Model I needed to restore these: Before and after: Since I put another cable on them as well (Mogami 2893), I wanted to do a quick and easy test. I pulled the DIY Charlize out of the rack, added the PS1 as the player and hooked the Float up to the speaker out. While I have to say that there was some ground noise, this whole combo really rocks! David Bowie "The Man Who Sold The World" has been described as "Hard-Rock" but I never heard it this hard rocking! Before the Float was all Highs, Bass was there but not really coming to the fore. With the proper pads and the new cable the Float I is one of…

Whitney's got my LCD3s right now and they are slated to go to Christian next week. I put Frank on the list because I know he is interested (he hasn't gotten back to me). Let me know if anyone in the Bay Area wants to borrow them for a week. Maybe a couple more slots - I'm not itching to get them back soon or anything. I would prefer that they be picked-up or dropped-off rather than mailed. I figure this would be a good way for folks to hear the most perfect headphones evar! I have a friend who asked me a headphone question that I couldn't answer. He has a pair of Ety ER4P and recently got shocked in the ear while wearing them (he was walking and was wearing a fleece if that is relevant). I haven't ever experienced this myself. Is this not abnormal or should he contact Etymotic about it? Sounds painful.

I have a chance to trade my HD650s for a pair of RS-1s, only paying $330. You guys think I should do it?

  15. They say it's a replacement plan that covers accidental damage so if I were to drop them and they don't work or break I'm covered which is what I want..But I normally take good care of my stuff and really don't see myself ever dropping them. What do you guys think? I think it will cost anywhere from $14.99 to $29.99

  16. Started by deepak,

I really like the K1000 and Grados. The HD650 is cool too, just looking for a third headphone. Just wondering how the bass and soundstage is compared to the HD580 or HD650 (even K501)? Is there good extension on both ends? Going to use it with the built in amp on the Lavry. addendum: I really disliked the HD590. It was one of the worst expensive headphones I've heard. It was my benchmark for no midrange...the 595 does improve on it a lot right...? And after spending a lot of time with the 580/650, if I were to call any Senn dark it would be the 590.

I haven't spent much time with the HD600 and now that I've sold the HD800, the 650 sounds a bit boomy. Granted, it is headphiled, but I suspect it would still sound boomy if I were to replace the grills. Any thoughts re the 600? I haven't spent much time with it. And what would be a good price used?

  18. Cutting to the chase: it seems I’m in a headphone identity crisis of sorts. I’ll try to be as brief as possible, and I would dearly appreciate some help. I hope this is the place for it, and I apologize in advance if it isn't! I’ve recently found audio bliss with an O2 MKI, and right now my K1000s don’t get much head time. I got a Little Dot MKVI to use with it, and to be honest I’m not quite enjoying the result as much as I wanted, but I think to some short extent it could be solved with better tubes. The issue is that, with everything I’ve heard with it so far (nothing high end except for a Marantz PM-11S2), the AKG's midrange is harsh and dry sounding and the hi…

Lately I've been thinking if a home rig is really even worth it. I haven't used my home rig intensively for about 5 months. I really only use it when I am programming on my computer for school. I listen to music non-stop, but I've been using my portable setup the most. I guess I'm just at the point where I wonder if its worth all this. I have: Cardas cabled (balanced) k340, balanced 325i, my custom tube amp, Zhaolu, monster hts2500mkII. I figure I could sell it all and upgrade the weak link in my portable setup (e2c) to (e500). My portable consists of Zen Vision:m, pint, e2 and k81dj. I know this decision is really best answered myself, but I'm hoping for some w…

  20. hi I spent to years creating this baby but if I were to apply my old rule of "what to keep" in an audio rig then the whole headphone side would have to go. here is the rule: if a certain component gets less than 10 percent of playing time, then It is not worth keeping, no matter how good a deal it was or how much it is worth. The thing strangely is that ever since i hooked up my M-Audio DX4 speakers to the VDA-2, the sound has been satisfactory enough so that I don't feel like I want to switch to my headphones and do the whole "cable" and volume/zana deux thing. so my at home listening is now 85 percent or more speakers. the other development is that I've gone b…

Hello. I have a pair of Lambda Nova Basic. Both drivers are slanted forward and left one has less bass. Volume is slightly unbalanced but mostly noticeable for stereo music. Should I risk it? Audio signature suddendly changed today and then it sounded normal again (that's when I noticed both drivers slanted forward. Left one was only slightly slanted now both of them fully are)

Just got mine from Smegs. Spent about an hour getting on the O2 mk2 pads. We're in business. The craftsmanship is fantastic; this is a beautiful pair of headphones. Oh, and they sound kickass, too. EDIT: the wood is African Blackwood.

  23. Started by Takashi,

So a while back even before I got my amp I was excited to own my new headphones and wanted to show them to a friend of mine. He comes over and puts on a song in my itunes, quickly finds the equalizer, turns the Pre-amp setting in iTunes ALL THE WAY up, takes the headphones off and quickly declares that they suck. Being a nice fellow, I just said ok and shrugged it off. My question to you is where does this kind of ignorance spawn from? How can someone be so stupid to assess sound quality when iTunes is clearly distorting it. Also he was using a 128kbps quality audio that he gave me, and I told him before hand that the quality will suck. GrRrRRRRRrRRRrRR Console m…

I heard that shure had changed the shure se530 cable formula in order to fix cable broken issue. Anyone know information about that? As I read on heafi, Shure changed the formula on June 08, so is it correct?
