Now for the dumb questions. I've never built a speaker cable. I want to do something quick and easy to test my AE2 speakers to see if the stock cable is picking up RF. Can I just use two separate runs of Mogami, using all four conductors? I won't be terminating at this point, just twisting the strands. Is this basic premise correct?

Hi All, I would like to mod my SRM007Tii so that it can use 6S4A tubes. However I am almost new in messing around with electronics circuit. Need some guidance from you all. Pictures below show my 007Tii board with re-routing & termination labels (Incomplete). I took quite sometimes to compare snapshots available online posted by Spritzer & Justin. All of them have slightly different wirings. Does anyone know where I can get instructions for adjusting the bias on an SRM-T1? I would like to replace the tubes and it seemed logical to find out. Then again, maybe not. Who cares? Seriously though, any help would be appreciated.

So, I had a bit of fun last night and experimented with stacking a small (valued) cap with a large valued cap to get extra WVDC capacity from the two caps in series. Works like a champ and it looks that my little psu scales up quite nicely. Of course, now I see where the danger lies, in that the sleeve of one capacitor can be near lethal to touch. Also, unequal values seemed to work better than a pair of equal values, which kinda makes sense. So, I started thinking... Would just strapping a pair of HV supplies, say two 400v supplies to make a single 800v supply be a better approach (or four 400v supplies to make a +- 800v supply, etc.) This way I can use 500v caps and …

Do any DIY experts have any any intel on modding Stax cables to be removable at the earspeaker ala the Stax SR-L700MK2 ? I'm interested because I have a couple of worn out Stax, the cable is fatigued at the strain relief up top and is causing drop outs and static. I've seen youtube vids regarding this fix, but am leery that the connectors used may not be able to safely handle the voltages involved. I have a Quattro I and II with different issues, appreciate anybody who has repaired CDP's. I haven't opened these up yet, doing some research first. Quattro I. Has tracking issue. Folks, I replaced all the electrolytic capacitors in my SRM-600. I can't say for sure if this has happened before, but this (photo) capacitor at 10V 4700uF is heating up. Not very much, around 55C. The headphones aren't plugged in. Can you tell me if this capacitor is in normal operation? Does it have to warm up? My SRM-600 for 230V voltage. First, I supplied a cheap Jamicon TKR472M1AJ26 capacitor. It was heating up.Then I decided to place EEUFR1A472L Panasonic Low ESR capacitor. However, it's warming up, too. I recently bought a Stax SRM-T1W and in speaking with others online, have heard that the PSU caps might be "dried up" and it's recommended that they be changed by default. Reportedly, the unit sounds/functions fine and is in "like new" shape cosmetically, but I'd like to do the most basic of these changes if I end up keeping the unit as a nearly two decade old bit of electronics is still a nearly two decades old bit of electronics, no matter how it might look. Hi guys I opened my 313 to see what was needed and as you know there are two sets of RCA inputs but one is supposed to be a "Tape out" They are paralleled and have two little resistors between the connectors. What are these for? can anyone post a pic if they rewired to better chasis mount RCA inputs? Thanks

Well its not like the stax mafia aren't busy and we certainly are not going to do an output stage with 8ma of current, and therefore no reason for a 4 stage amp, and since tube inputs seem to be the big thing lately, well might as well take the kgsshv-carbon design and replace the input fet with an input triode. bonus, no low voltage supplies. not a bonus, ksa1156 and ksc5026 run at close to 1 watt each. I should have a real t8000 end of june, but this should keep some of you busy. I'm having some of the teflon Stax jacks w/ the gold plated pins machined. I should have them in 4-6 weeks. I don't have the final price yet because I don't know what it will cost to have the pins assembled. But it shouldnt be more (probably will be less) than the jacks have previously been sold for and it will be excellent machining quality.
