So yesterday and today involved replacing three ceiling fans and running some Cat-6 cable to get my NAS up and running. The fans in the kitchen and family room were fine except they were dated. The fan on the screened in porch was another story. First, the previous owner decided it was OK to put up an indoor fan even though this is Florida and there is a hot tub on the porch, so higher than desert level humidity. It was basically falling apart as I was taking it down. Then as I was disconnecting the wires I discovered that he never connected the fan and mount ground wires to the house wiring ground. What a dufus. Anyway, the new fan is an outdoor model and is now properly grounded. As we replace things it is clear that the former owner liked to cut corners. Let the adventure continue.4 points

Below 20 Hz what you may be hearing is the harmonics of the tone rather than the fundamental - i.e. what you may be hearing is distortion, especially if you cranked it up.1 point

I did a funny test on the weekend with my new Carbon / SR-009 Setup and checked the audible frequencies with an online tone generator. I knew my upper hearing limit is 16 kHz but I was rather astonished to be able to hear even the 3 Hz signal. It's really a big surprise that I can still hear signals from 3 Hz to 16 kHz.1 point

Baratza Virtuoso is what I have and use. Had a Bodum burr grinder before that which died an unfortunate death at the hand of a stone in my beans (it happens, evidently) and was specifically referred to this model as being able to deal with that without having terminal results. I think I've had it for a good 3yrs or more now and it's been great. Has both timed and button-hold options for grinding and the required variation of grind for drip/FP/espresso/etc.1 point

Ken, Cyber Monday deal on an XPS 13. 128GB SSD, but everything else is great, and it's one of the best built machines on the market. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/d/dell-xps-13-xps-9360-laptop-pc/8q17384grz37/GV5D?ranMID=24542&ranEAID=nOD/rLJHOac&ranSiteID=nOD_rLJHOac-vezG5S1ecs_TcDleh0lU7Q&tduid=(d83560f0192e176e4b4ad27a89c78459)(256380)(2459594)(nOD_rLJHOac-vezG5S1ecs_TcDleh0lU7Q)()&activetab=pivot:overviewtab Sent from my ONEPLUS A3000 using Tapatalk1 point

Feature, not a bug. It's a visual oil-level indicator: if it's not leaking, it's out of oil. If it's leaking, you need to add some more oil.1 point

The feature set/price ratio was good, though, so you're on the right track. I'm actually tempted to send this deal to my work's IT department, because they're so cheap, they won't even buy i7 machines for us, and I doubt they paid much less. I've never bought an HP, so wouldn't know. Dell, MSI, Lenovo, Asus, those are the brands I would stick with. Anyone with more recent knowledge should feel free to add to that list. A good way to check is to go to NewEgg's laptop chooser and sort by ratings...and then buy it elsewhere, because you never know when they're going to send you a coatrack instead of a GPS system, and then try and make you pay the restocking fee as well as return shipping..1 point

The Five and Dime from Maple Street Biscuit Co. Biscuit, fried chicken, pecan wood smoked bacon, cheddar cheese, topped with sausage gravy and a fried egg. So bloody good. Sent from my ONEPLUS A3000 using Tapatalk1 point

Looks nice Michael, and agreed on the socket. Having it machined to recess into the front panel might look better as well, but looks great for a prefab case! Here are a couple of pics of mine so far (the usual not even close to being done ) I took Kevin's suggestion and wired the pass devices off to the heatsink for the GRLV.1 point

Built ikea furniture. Installed this by myself today. Was a royal pain in the ass. Metal studs and toggle bolts are no fun. Came out looking quite nice though. Finished tile and paint on the place a while back. Thought about doing the kitchen next but thankfully time and money have both run out. The tv mounts go up tomorrow. Everything needs to be done by the end of the month as Julie and the kids need to be able to move in there might need to hire someone to help for the next couple of days.1 point
