  1. Decided to have a little fun with the Traeger since it is, in essence, a wood-fired oven. My parent's watched the kids one day this week and picked up some fresh peaches so I figured it was time for cobbler, round 2. lnitial phase Mid Cook Done

  3. I've enjoyed most of his books, but The Rise and Fall of D.O.D.O. was terrible. It had the outlines of Stephenson's usual obsessions, but the plot was terribly weak, the characterizations were cartoonish, and it went way too far in terms of self-indulgence and laziness. I took a hard pass on The Mongoliad. I read half of Seveneves before my library loan expired – I'll get back to finishing it at some point. I loved Reamde, despite its flaws, and I'm looking forward to reading Fall.

  4. I'm a sucker for Stephenson stuff, even his more navel-gazey work really does it for me. Fall is perhaps not the place to start if you're not already a fan, but I just find his thought process and world-building compelling. I did not enjoy it as much as Seveneves, and Diamond Age remains my favorite of all his books. I did prefer it to Reamde. The reviews are a little harsher but similar in tone to those of Seveneves. Normies don't like 600+ pages of exposition from a layman on fringe tech with their speculative fiction, maybe? I just discard out of hand any review which mentions Snow Crash.

  5. Successfully solved a ceiling fan long wobble (rubber octopus!) and extracted a broken light bulb from its socket. Why am I feeling this triumphant? #2020

  6. It was a little heavy on the sale and pepper but other wise turned out good. I took the right 1/3 and turned it into burnt ends, those came out better. and "Super Smoke" mode on the Ironwood appears to do the job.

  14. To quote Banksy “I mean, they say you die twice. One time when you stop breathing and a second time, a bit later on, when somebody says your name for the last time.” Matt.

  24. Thanks everyone for your patience. I did not realize so many of you have yet to receive the package. I sent the packages out in a few batches and usually 6 - 7 at a time. I am at a loss making sense why some of the packages arrived so much later than others.

  25. Maybe a little redundant, but I finally received my copy of J.G. Ballard's High-Rise and I'm enjoying it immensely. The novel is clearly satirical and the film seems to have lost that feeling somewhere in translation. I got the one with the movie cover on purpose, as the novel is supposed to be about a disaster and the movie was one, unintentionally. Looks like a slew of cover artists attempted to visualize the story with varying degrees of success. It is a near-insurmountable challenge to make a condominium appear fascinating to the reading public. https://www.4thestate.co.uk/2015/11/high-rise-40-years-of-cover-design/

  26. Holy thread resurrection. Martin de Candre has been my favorite shaving soap for years. A jar literally lasts a year or longer. I think Vetyver is my favorite fragrance yet.

  28. The general consensus on this site seems to be that the Clears have better tonal balance and fewer flaws than the Utopia, but I recently got the Utopias and I definitely prefer them over the Clears. I find them to have better dynamics, clarity, and speed with a similar tonal balance (a little brighter, but still relatively warm, at least compared to my Lambda NBs). What exactly do people dislike about the Utopias in comparison to the Clears?

  29. Yes, "traditional" armadillo eggs are just* sausage packed jalapeños stuffed with one's choice of cream cheese and cheese (that's my choice) and some add BBQ rub or spices too but I prefer au naturel. But then I found the recipe that said to wrap them in bacon and I was like, "Why the fuck not?" I definitely got a look or two while preparing them, but all objections were silenced upon sampling. I'm now imagining working any leftover bits, if there are such a thing, into an omelette. Because life deserves complicated breakfast. * Note that there is nothing just about non-bacon wrapped armadillo eggs. They too are delicious. But, you know, bacon and all that.
