  3. Did an update the forum software today biggest noticeable change is the 'Leaderboard' tab shows users with top posts and the most popular content. I believe it's to help increase discover ability or something. The other major change is that the site is now completely served over HTTPS. This includes embedded content and images. For most services it'll automatically pull in from HTTPS url's if the service supports it. If the content can't be pulled from HTTPS the forum software will download the content and serve it via an internal proxy script. Main reason for the later is to avoid browsers mixed-content warnings.

  4. I have a mandatory training at work that spans this long weekend. It took 4 revisions of a timeline to get the trainer and two supervisors to agree that me going to NYC is more important than some silly job. Now, on to the next obstacle. **BRENT**

  8. I understand. It's scary. As I reported, I had my first (at almost 64) adult ear infection last month. It started as a head cold and eventually the pressure ruptured the eardrum. I had all the usual symptoms such as reduced hearing and tinnitus. I saw my ENT again last Friday. He says the infection is gone but that there is still a little fluid in the middle ear. A hearing test revealed slightly reduced hearing in the ear. I'm to continue treatment (Flonase and hourly clearing of the ear) until the fluid is gone. My ENT thinks hearing will return to normal.

  14. Hey guys, @justin and I are excited to make our first offer on the burgeoning deal site Massdrop: it's the Original HeadAmp Pico DAC/Amp! https://www.massdrop.com/buy/headamp-pico-portable-dac-amp Get in soon, to save up to 50% off the retail price of $499. This is a limited-time, limited quantity deal, and once the Picos at this price are gone, they're gone. The Pico DAC/Amp uses an ASRC to upsample signals of 16/44 and 16/48 to 24/96 before converting them with a well-regarded Wolfson DAC chip. The Pico DAC works without drivers on Windows and Macs, and works on some Apple iOS products when paired with a camera connection kit, and select Android devices with an OTG cable (have used successfully with Samsung Galaxy S4, and Note 4). The Pico DAC/Amp also accepts analog signalson its' 3.5mm input jack, making it simple and easy to pair with DAP's and smartphones. The two-way gain switch allows the amp to comfortably drive low-impedance IEM's all the way up to high-impedance cans like the Sennheiser HD600 series. Featuring HeadAmp's legendary fit, finish, and attention to detail, the Pico is a work of both art and science, designed to give you great sound for years to come.

  15. I finally finished book four of Peter V. Brett's Demon Cycle, posted about it on Facebook, and just the other day, Peter V. Brett himself liked my post. (fanboy swoon) Now started more M.R. Forbes on Kindle Unlimited (Balance already finished, 10% into Betrayal) and The Way of Kings.

  21. The only reason I knew of them is they were local and I knew one of the members of the band. No need to be ashamed. Glad you like them.

  22. Heck Dusty, thanks. I'm considering myself a metalhead and I've never heard anything of them. And they are great. I've never been ashamed like that for a long time

  23. FWIW I've been through a number of issues with my hearing over the last 6 months, all (thank heavens) sorted out now. Stated with losing bass from my right ear - sounded like a tinny 1960's transistor radio. Doc said fluid behind the eardrum, and it would clear. In the interim it went into low frequency tinnitus - sounded like a perpetual low frequency hum, 24/7. That progressively cleared up (months), at which point (two or three weeks ago) my left ear suddenly went really pretty deaf. That lasted for a week, and then that has cleared too. So I have for the first time in 6 months got total hearing back. The doc reckoned it was the after effects of a head cold back in the Spring. Fun it has not been.

  24. John Scalzi - Redshirts: A Novel With Three Codas Listened to the Wil Wheaton narration of this. Man, I love John Scalzi. I'm probably going to get some more Scalzi books, since there's a "Use 4 credits get a 10$ credit" thing going on right now. **BRENT**

  25. So this is pretty embarrassing: What I thought to be an imbalance issue with my STAX from maybe potentially arcing the driver one time, turned out to be a clogged Eustachian tube in my left ear, leading me to perceive less bass, and thus driving me mad. All is sorted now.

  27. Not sure how they are going into a new engaging narrative from this set up. I enjoyed the show very much, but the prognosis for season 2, and beyond, doesn't look like anything to me [emoji23] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  29. Nine Inch Nails, Broken, although not purely metal (metal/industrial crossover), has some damn fine production. My personal favourite is Oracle Moon by Garden of Shadows. Whoever produced that album understood the concept of overhead and gain staging, because one can really hear deeply into the mix. I've been listening to Underworld's Dubnobasswithmyheadman Super Deluxe Edition on and off all day. This was such a departure from their previous albums when it came out, that it still stands out as my favourite, by a long shot.

  30. Maybe a little heavy but: Necrophagist - Epitaph. It's record and mastering quality is beyond any other metal album I've heard. And there is a saying i've heard before: Chuck (Schuldiner) is god, Muhammed (Suicmez) is his prophet.

  38. I was collecting books on electronics, how electricty, especially electrostatic, works etc. Mainly old university lecture books... I bought a book recently. I thought it was just an old lecture book. But turns out it is a extremely rare book published in 1939, and only 2000 coppies printed. And mines condition is really good for its age. It was written by Prof. Dr. Georges Bruhat and translated from French to Turkish (well ottoman language; some kind of blend with Turkish, Arabic and Farsi) It has good basic info about electricty. Hard to understand cuz of its language, but still...
