I just got a pair of Yamaha YH-1000 given to me by my father. I understand they are special. I currently have a pair of Sennheiser HD 600s, FWIW. One channel is very week and distorted-but plays-and the foam needs replaced on both ear pads. Anyone have any ideas on how to go about fixing either problem? I can solder and am an adventurous DIYer. Thanks for your help.

Just came today, which is nice cause I just scraped like half my knee off. Anyway, my first impressions are, believe it or not, it sounds kind of like an uber KSC35, if you can imagine that. If you didn't know, this was made by AKG awhile ago (sometime in the 80s I think), and has two drivers in each cup for a total of 4 drivers.

So I bought a pair of Edition 9s. I've heard nothing but bad things about these cans from folks whose ears I trust, and nothing but good things from those with whom I don't seem to share any of the same sonic preferences, the sole exception being MaLoS, who I've spoken with about the W5000, which we both like. But when I saw a pair pop up for sale at a price I knew I could flip it for, my curiousity got the best of me, and I hit the paypal button. I was going to keep the purchase secret while I had a chance to do some more critical listening, but I figured jpak's spies would find out soon enough and call me out as a closet Ultrasone lover. I'm at work right now, but w…

I tend to go between an ER4P/S and the Senn 600s. Was in a music store today and noticed that they carried these Beyers. Anyone have any experience with either or would they recommend one or the other based on my current listening experiences? They were both $239

Ok, I know this is probably a "personal preference" type thing, but I am looking to buy my first real pair of headphones sometime soon. I have always used IEMs and am currently using se530's, which I love, it is just too hard to keep taking them and back out everytime someone at work (or at home) comes over to talk about something. I don't have a budget, but I'd probably try to stay in the 200$ or below range. I'll be using iPod->portaphile/pico or macbook pro->pico as a source. I listen to a huge range of music, but love live music and want to feel like I am on stage with them So.. to my question.. what are the differences in sound between the grado sr60/80/…

Two years ago, Sennheiser sold, through Meier Audio, around twenty brand new HE90 units. After several buyers mentioned they had problems (because they used the HE90 on other amps than the Sennheiser HEV90 amp), Sennheiser agreed to modify a bit the headphones so that they can work on any electrostatic amp on the market (because, if I understood correctly, the HEV90 amp had a very different bias than most of other current electrostatic amps). Does anybody know exactly what were the modifications made by Sennheiser at this new batch of Orpheus headphones?

https://www.electric-kingdom.net/post/behringer-releases-clone-of-beyerdynamic-dt-770-studio-reference-headphones See, this is why I hate Behringer, they reverse engineer technology, and then undercut the original. I’m alright with it when the technology is long since out of the market, as is the case with many of their synthesizers, but this is ubiquitous! Grr...

In a nutshell, I want a pico but I don't have a lot of stuff so perhaps there is something that I should buy before the Pico. I feel that I don't have a good enough source, or perhaps my amp isn't good enough. Spending $500 on a pico should give me a significant difference since it is a combination of both right? If I didn't buy the pico, I would've probably gotten a DENON DCD-CX3 SACD/CD player or a Yamamoto HA-02 to compliment my ATH-W1000.. Honestly, I'm very fickle and after taking the plunge at IEMs, Tomahawk, and that fricken ALO Cable... I felt that the money and time I spent into these wasn't spent wisely. I want to make a right, or if not.. a good pur…

Well, this document would at least seem to suggest that some of the rumors that I have been hearing over the past 6 months are true. From what I've heard the rumored street price in the US is ~$1000. There's also a thread on Head-Fi about this, but I don't think there's much in the way of additional information there, just a couple of new pictures.

Hey guys, I'm new here... and I know you guys dont typically like Ultrasones so please dont shoot me So I've been thinking about getting a full sized pair of headphones for use at home again, and have been tempted by the Ultrasone Pro 900. For some reason, people seem to like em over at HF, but I wanted a second (more trustworthy) opinion. I've read these have a lot of bass, and U-shaped FR. This seems like a good thing to me because I tend to listen a very, very low volumes, and I am somewhat of a basshead. The price for these arent that bad either since they can easily be found new at $200 less than MRSP, and used at around 300 or so. But I'm still unsure wit…

So I received my K1000's. Unfortunately the headband is a bit saggy. Does anyone here know how to re-tension this headband? I can either increase the tension on the headband or surgically lower my ears. I think I would prefer the first. Renato

Hi guys, Where i am living i don't have many opportunities to test headphones and equipment. So i have to blind shot with what i am ordering. I am listening to Jazz/Indie/Soul/Alternative Rock/Electronica/Female vocalist etc. And I want to use my FLAC collection via my laptop. Please recommend me a full setup for an about 800$ (second hand is OK, but i am in Europe). I don't care much for the mobility and if is upgradeable will be great. Thanks in advance.

I've just been through about 2 days of searching high and low for a pair of nice headphones, i'm seeing sparkles around my head right now due to the HUGE amount of infos all over the net and the Vast numbers of reviews leaning either way on pretty much every single pair of cans I look at... Hence posting here is like a cry for help, last resort kind of thing for me. Would really appreciate any suggestions/opinions/directions you could offer! I'll get right into what I'm looking for: Used for: Mostly on the Computer (Music, Movies and Gaming) as well as PS3 gaming, maybe ipod(at home) Main use is at home, so portability is not an issue. I have the ME2i for my on th…

I've started noticing a certain amount of discolouration and and 'ragging' at the edges of the "pads". (as 010 owners know, "pad" is a bit of a misnomer) What would you recommend for nourishing the 010 leather? NO ARMOR ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (oh yeah, perhaps no need to say that... Sovkiller's gone )

I've just recieved a pair of lightly modded (bass heavy) K340's in the post today and after 7+ hours with the sound still improving I am wondering how long yours usually take to warm-up and in particular whether getting them modded by headphile shortens this time ? As these continue to play they are becoming better balanced, much more detailed and far more responsive to the music. It's becoming quite addictive to listen to The K340's have had the 'screen mod' done and I've added some dampening to the outside rear face of the cups but are otherwise as stock. I am driving them from the 1/4" of apogee mini-dac, all components in my signal chain are past 600+ of bur…

A few days ago I decided to take the step up to much higher quality Audio. After researching my choices for around 200-300 dollar headphones for about 8 hours I ended up buying the Denon AH-D2000's for about $210 on amazon. My first step into high end audio was the Shure SE530 in ears which were nice, but i ran them over with my rolly chair and broke them :palm: Since then i've had the bose triport headphones and the bose in ear headphones, which have been adequate but very disappointing in terms of bass. I am a basshead so I believe I will thoroughly enjoy the heavy bass of these ahd2k cans. Anyway, when these Denons come sometime this week I would be glad to giv…

hey guys... Well, i sent my HF1's in to transform them into HHF1's. They are goign to be the only solid ebony woodies for now I guess.. I basiclly dropped an arm and a leg to get one of the most exclusive pairs he's going to make. It's not that i care so much about it being exclusive, but when you want something I guess you forget your brains and go stupid. Anyways, i'm awaiting the pair back, should be back to daddy in a few weeks... I have a few pics from when we was showing me screen configurations... Mine is going to be silver screens no HF1 buttons... As soon as i figure out how to post an image u can see the pics i have. [attachment delete…

I've been in a state of bliss over the last week since getting my HD650s with the Headroom Balanced Amp. I'd forgotten how much fun it could be to listen to music. I'm so happy that I just spent $5,000 on a CD player, which has convinced my friends that I've gone over the edge. And then it happened... I noticed a really persistent ringing in my ears. Like 12 hours long. I've tried to be really easy on the volume, but it seems like the headphones don't "come alive" until they hit a certain sweet spot, which may be a little more loud than my ears should be listening to. A question for long time listeners--am I going to have to spend the next 10 years keeping the volum…

Results for anyone to see. Asking because I know that not a lot of people listen to music as quietly as I do. I find it essential to listen at this volume however otherwise I get fatigue. I know the o'clock ratings are fairly arbitary since there's no accounting for source, amp or headphone and is thus merely a rough guide. Cheers!
