Grok Headphones in Fullness

  1. Why not combine the two? Not particularly useful. sounds about the same as the silicone, but a whole lot more comfortable, and a bit less isolating. That is all.

  2. Started by Dusty Chalk,

Since when did Nixon make headphones? link They're probably OEM'd, but then again, I doubt their watches are OEM'd, so maybe not. But then again, their specialty is watches, so of course their watches aren't OEM'd, so it's still possible that everything else they sell (clothes, bags, cufflinks, etc.) is. But I certainly don't recognize them, so if anyone has any theories on the subject -- much less heard them -- please speak up. No, I'm not getting them -- way too expensive to try just for whimsy.

Hi guys, found my way here through another thread in another subforum. Have been drooling for years over a Sony MDR-R10 (bit of a Sony vintage gear fan), but there is no way I could afford it back in the '90, and still can't at the prices these go for nowadays. But anyway, as a kid I used to listen a lot through my dad's headphones, a pair of Telefunken TH-700 orthodynamic headphones, which I've always liked a lot. They were pretty expensive and Telefunken's TOTL offering in the late 70's. Unfortunately, through the years, the leather cushionpads have deteriorated badly, so they are not at all comfortable anymore to wear. I recently rediscovered these in a box…

Hi, I'm new to the forum and have a question that may be painfully obvious to all (except me). Can the SR-X Mk 3 be drive by one of Stax's SRM amps, or does it only work through the SRD adapters? Thanks

I was leafing through some mags at the central library a few days ago when I saw a headphone review in one of the British mags. I had my camera with me so I snapped pictures of the more interesting reviews; these being the Ultrasone 750, Denon D5000, and Grado RS-2. Download, enjoy, have fun.

So after two long years of service, the cable above the left ear bud of my E500's has cracked. Because it is outside the two year limited warranty, I was wondering if it would be worth looking for someone to recable them or to send them to sure and pay for the repair. For anyone who has sent their 'phones into Shure beyond the 2 year mark... did you have to pay a $145 service fee as listed on their website? (http://www.shure.com/stellent/groups/public/@gms_gmi_web_us_pa/documents/web_resource/us_pa_doc_service_fees.pdf) Or is it likely that the repair or switch (by most accounts that's what they do) will cost less than that?

Here is the link KOSS KSC75 @ RadioShack $5.47usd !!! - Head-Fi: Covering Headphones, Earphones and Portable Audio I just called my local Radio Shack and they have it for about $6.57. That sounds good for me as an extra pair to have around

  11. Hello my fellow HCers, I had the MDR-CD3000 and ATH-W11JPN side by side for about 2 weeks so I thought I’d do a mini review/impressions thread for you guys. Its more towards a CD3000 though. I have owned the W11jpn for a couple of months now and have purchased the CD3000 recently. Gears used with the headphones are my Creative MoVo2FM 5GB, early ‘90s vintage(?) Samsung Z98G CDP, MicroShar u107B amp and some silver and copper interconnects. My iBasso D1 is out for repairs, so I had no chance to test with it. It will be back in a few days time though. The MuVo is quite neutral sounding player while the Samsung CDP has a slightly aggressive sound to it + quite detailed…

Kevin probably already has one of these working in his lab, but this is nevertheless an interesting read: Hot nanotube sheets produce music on demand - nanotech - 31 October 2008 - New Scientist Tech The video of the nanotubes being stretched is kinda cool too.

Any one here have to deal with a RMA from Ulitmate Ears? I sent in a pair of Triple-Fi's over three months ago and they keep giving me the run around saying they shipped replacements. So far there are supposedly two sets of replacements in the mail which should have been here by now. I typically like to give companies the benfit of the doubt but I am starting to get pretty pissed. I guess it's more important for them to go give away headphones to celbrities than take care of actual paying customers.

I am getting ready to come home in about a month and have to start mailing my gear home. I figure rather than have it sit around, it might was well get some use. I have already offered up the Buffalo and currently have: SWT61->Augsburger->Deepak. The Buffalo will be set up for SPDIF use only. I was hoping the guys at TP would have had the MUX ready by now but no such luck. The Buffalo is in a beat up Par-Metal case so it isn't much of a looker but should give an idea of the sound. The other item for loan is the HE 1.2B. This obviously would require a pro-bias amp or transformer set up with a Stax pro-bias jack. I say each person could try the items fo…

Hey everyone. I know how much we all hate these threads, but I need some help. My cousin needs a closed full sized can for under $100. She already destroyed 2 pairs of K81DJs so something strong is a must. She uses them obviously unamped out of her Zune. Can you recommend something decent? Thanks

ive been messing around with the following dvd http://www.rotarywoofer.com/demodvdwebpage/eminentdemodvd.html the gear is as follows. laptop (ibm t43) -> single ended beta 22 -> hd 650. all generic cables. i tried that bass test with the 650s and the lowest i could hear was the 30hz clip. at lower freq. i knew the driver was moving but it was just a bunch of distortion as if the driver wanted to do something but couldnt. i dont know if the source was prohibiting it from going even down to 24hz...it very well might be the case or is it freq. range listen for ideal conditions/theoretical under lab conditions? i ask because i just tried the crossroad…

  21. Started by Dreadhead,

Today I finally made my fake ear (block of modeling foam with a hole) for my measurement microphone and hooked it up to my digital equalizer. It's bloody cool, you put the heaphones on the ear and run the auto eq (automatic algorithm using pink noise and a RTA) and you've got pitch flat response I know for a fact it would drive many nuts but to be honest I'm having a great time. The only boring thing is that it makes d5000s sound like sa5000s or whatever sound like whatever (as long as both are equalized). Anyway I look forward to trying this out with other phones too. It'll be interesting to see how much correction is required. For the d5000 it's a lot down low an…

  22. Hi guys, any of you own both? Or have you heard them side by side in a good setup? I currently have the W11jpn, and I am 100% sure of owning the L3000 in the near future (couple of months time). The thing is, I kinda have my eyes on something right now and I was wondering if I should sell the W11jpn to finance that purchase since I'm gonna need some quick $. To rephrase, is the L3000 different enough from the W11jpn to justify owning them both? Any of you miss owning the W11jpn after getting a pair of L3000? I'm generally happy with the W11jpn, but it could use a tad more punch and speed in the bass dept. and a little more detail won't hurt either. As noted below, t…

So I just acquired a pair of HP-2s. While testing them out today, I detected a bass rattle in the right driver. Confirmed this using test tones from the RealTraps site. The rattle does not show up with my HD650s, so I'm inclined to think its not my other gear. However, I don't have another source/amp combo to test on. Is this sort of thing fixable? Should I just return the headphones to the seller? Am I being stupid and missing anything? I would greatly appreciate any and all help.
