Grok Headphones in Fullness

  1. Hello, first post for me. I'm looking to buy Non-Insulating wireless earbuds for running and biking in city. I already have sennheiser pmx 685i, that I really like, the only problem is every 2-3 months I have to send them to repair to switch the cable. I'm a fan of sennheiser, I have sennheiser 598, sennheiser 380HD pro, and audio technica ath-m50x. here are my priorities: Wireless Non-Insulating Sound quality Behind the neck type (like the sennheiser pmx 685) Features such as heart beat monitor Price My budget is 250$ and under. 100$ is also a great option. I'm willing to buy in ear headphones if you're able to h…

  2. Started by TMoney,

I have the Ether/Ether C on loan and I did some listening last night vs. my HD800S. TLDR Version The Ether is legit. I like it better than any Audeze I've heard. It won't be supplanting the 800S in my collection, but this is a legit good headphone. Frequency balance issues and price are its biggest weaknesses. Bass and comfort are its biggest strengths. Long Version For reference, my chain: iPad -> Wyrd -> Yggy -> XP-10 -> DSHA-4. Pros: Ether bass is fantastic. Waaaaay better than HD800S bass. Going back and forth you can really hear the distortion on the 800S. The Ether feels like it is clear an octave lower than the 800S. The…

  3. Started by NotoriousBIG_PJ,

What do you guys think about these headphones? I owned a used pair for a while, but I didn't feel the sound and build quality justified the price (for example vs. sr009 or omega II). I thought they had great sound stage, good detail and a nice balanced sound. No sibilance issues and non-fatiguing. I found the mids a bit thin and in my system they sounded muddy until I turned up the volume to a bit higher than I prefer. The pads get pretty hot after a bit of use. My wife wasn't a fan of them, citing vocals as lacking 'crispness'. I think they are still one of the top headphones I've listened to so I'd recommend giving them a listen. Biggie.

  4. Regarding the K701, well, I happen to own them. What might be regarded as interesting is that I use them to listen to EDM FM recordings (weekly). The resolution, plasticity, definition, tightness, nuances and the overall quality of the bass (if the bass is there in the recording, and it is very recording dependent - and recording are made by humans) the way it hits is, on the headphone amp I am using, with somewhat good source - breathtaking. Senn HD600 have different qualities, and are more of a blunt tool so to speak, in comparison, although very often put in the same box together with the AKG K701. Often neglected in reviews and opinions is how are these…

  5. Started by Rossliew,

Anyone tried the L700 with any of the KGSSHV/KGST/BHSE amps? Wonder if it will sound moar awesome as compared to just driving them with a Stax amp..

  6. Well as this ain't head-fi (and all that means), I would assume one would be able to run a thread like this without having the hate brought down from the sky. Plus, roasting stuff is always fun so... 1. Ultrasone Edition 10. ~$3500(?). The most repulsive >$100 headphone I've ever heard, period. Couldn't stand more than 20 seconds of it. 2. Pioneer SE-Master1. ~$2500. Artificially boosted, distorted bass that interferes with the midrange and a tizzy, metallic top end sums it up quite nicely. And this piece of shit actually got quite a solid reception from magazines and some (apparently, deaf) headphone users. Was just recently measured by Tyll though and his me…

  7. Started by Stex,

I recently acquired a set of SR5N earspeakers, with white color. I am asking that how can one's decide if it is a gold editon or not?

  8. Started by mtoc,

They use stax's terminus, so don't worry, we can build the amps ourselves!

  9. Started by Ronzo707,

I was wondering if I should return the %$#@! sound true on ear headphones and purchase the %$#@! instead ? Edited to remove brand names -- Dusty

  10. http://en-au.sennheiser.com/orpheus The cat is out of the bag. What do you guys think of the potential of the Senn HE-1060/HEV1060 combo beside breaking the bank? Thanks.

  11. Hello, I recently purchased a pair of Shure SE215 online and they came in this box: http://s90.photobucket.com/user/ofey_s/media/Shure/SE215-01.jpg.html From what I have read this version is the "international" version. If I am correct this is the U.S box: https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/G/01/musical-instruments/detail-page/Amazon_SE215-CL_img10_lg.jpg Is this a problem for me as I am based in the United States? And is there a difference in the manufacturing?

I can't believe I am starting one of these threads, but I am trying to help somebody find a $100 IEM and all I have is Innerfidelity as a guide. They do not have many new reviews and the wall of fame entries are at least a year old. Anything to add, Head-Case?

Does anybody have any experience with any particular ear protector ear muff thingie for babies? A friend of mine is expecting twin girls. He's the house photographer for an NHL team. Thus, there is a trip to a hockey game in the kids' futures. I assume this would be for your basic making a fuss over the cute babies thing, since I can't really see why infant girls would want to see a hockey game, even with a good team, which the Panthers haven't been lately.

hi all, i am a new owner of a lambda SR. i found it cheap on craigslist, was not expecting to see one, went and snatched it up for cheap. it looks fairly dirty on the inside and i have been looking at some guides where people describe cleaning lambdas but the process is a bit intimidating... it looks like there is a lot of dirt inside. i wasn't aware dirt was so hard to clean off of them before i bought them, and there are 2 visible specks of dirt on the left driver on the inside. that driver usually buzzes a bit, sometimes not too bad but sometimes a bit louder. when you look down into the driver housings you can see lots of dirt that looks nasty and gross. i am using a …

So, here I am in Singapore a few months removed from a purchase of SR-009's and an epiphany and visit to Spritzer's pad, and here I go buying a pair of Abyss. Now it may be the $1000 Macallan with the goddaman Vicodins, but these fuckers actually sound good - really good - now I could use some conventional amp advice. My prototype Krell is still sounding the best. Thinking of the Moon - talk to me before I spend again...............

  18. Hi all! I wish to gift a headphone to my brother. He is very much fond of listening to music and play a lot of games. So I’m looking for a headphone that do great in both and price less than $300. One of my friends suggested Shure SRH440 headphone. How is its functionality? Does anyone have any other opinions out there? I would be glad to hear your recommendations! I’m planning to buy it from <advertisement deleted>

So apparently, they're balance-able. Set up to work with the Sony PHA-3 through....wait for it...yet another (set of) connector(s)! More words

  20. Started by cutestory,

Now that I'm biking more (yay!) I find I need to take the occasional phonecall when I'm enroute. So I'm asking for headphone advice. Imagine that. I'm mostly looking for something that won't fall out of my ears (I'm talking to you, EarPods), or block all sound (I like to have some situation-awareness around crazy LA drivers). It's fine if they're wired--again, I'm not necessarily looking for amazing fidelity. Do I want Bluetooth? Thoughts?

  21. I was clicking on some old links to Walt Jung articles and it took me the the xpress homepage instead. I spotted this: http://audioxpress.com/article/New-Hybrid-Electrostatic-Headphones-and-Tube-Hybrid-Headphone-Amplifier-from-ENIGMAcoustics.html I don't know what to make of the headphones, but why is there only a render if they're supposedly due out in May? The Dharma D1000 headphone takes full advantage of ENIGMAcoustics’ SBESL (Self-Biased Electrostatic) technology, offering electrostatic transparency, focus, and inner detail without the need for an external energizer to provide a polarizing voltage. Instead, the bias voltage is derived from the signal itse…

I thought I might see what they're all about. What do you all think is a fair price for a pair in excellent shape?

  23. Started by modern,

Hello, my questions are about the sennheiser HD 598's. Firstly, how is the build quality on them and secondly, what is the size of the driver units? The sennheiser HD 598 seems to be becoming cheaper and I think I will grab myself a pair, but I want to know about the build quality first.

  24. Started by MementoMori,

I'm pretty much a novice when it comes to headphones. I usually walk around with my apple ear buds, mainly because I don't care if they break. I'm ready to upgrade, but don't want to spend more than $100. I'm looking for either On-Ear, or Over-Ear headphones. I listen to a wide variety of music, from Acoustic Folk to Classical to Pop/Rock to EDM. Right now, I'm looking at either the Noontec Hammo which are on Amazon for $65, or the Sony MDR-ZX600 which are $70. Any thoughts on either of these 2 would be great, or if you can recommend some others that you think would be better. Mainly used with my iPhone or iMac. Thanks

  25. Is it possible to remove a grado driver and leave the cup intact? I want to remove some drivers from their plastic housings without cutting up the housing. I watched the grado assembly video on their site and they just pop in the front and are secured with a little CA I'm guessing. My though was to cut out as much of the driver as I could, then soak it face down in acetone. What do you think?
