Speakers

Pretty nice little package. 12"*12"*14", sealed 10" woofer, 50lbs, 1000W RMS, claimed 23Hz extension, $800. If I ever get a sub for the office rig, this will be near the top of my list. Only thing I can think of that would probably do more for less is the Epik Vanquish at $700, but that's quite a bit bigger and heavier.

Well less guidance more of a recommendation. Just bought a new car, no aux jack, no cassette deck so I can't use my adapter. I'd like to find a nice portable speaker to set up in my back seat instead of tear out the old speakers and radio. I don't plan on keeping this long enough for it to matter. My point: can anyone suggest a good Bluetooth speaker to use in my backseat?

I have a friend who is looking for good active monitors, under $400 or so, and mostly used in a near-field/desktop setup. Coming more from the pro audio (mixing and post-production) side than the audiophile side, so as flat a frequency response as possible would be nice. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance. In case anyone cares, I'll also be sending along my modded Fostex T20v2 and T40v1 to this friend on indefinite loan to see if they're up to the task of being good studio headphones. I'm sad to say that I really don't listen to headphones very much, anymore, otherwise you'd have to pry the T40 off my cold, dead hands.

Yeah! I just scored this Omega Super 8 Alnico (formerly SuperHemp, but with new drivers), which is on its way to me (seller's photo). Will be driving with my Almarro A205AmkII and various sources. Have had good experience with Omega Super 5, so I splurged.

Ok so I have finally scored the DNA 1 rev A of Audiogon and partnered with my Alon 1s it sounds great. I have been using the pre outs from the Berendsen IPA-80 as well as an Luminous Audio passive volume control partnered with a Moth Audio switchbox. I am starting to set my sites on a preamp and have a few candidates: Bent Audio TAP (a bit out of range atm but still obtainable) Placette Audio passive preamp from what I have read may be tops in the transparency dept in this price range McCormacj Audio RLD preamp, these show up used for $700ish on Agon and Steve McCormack offers upgrades to them. I was listening to Wish You Were Here the other day and I swear, Gilmour was in the wall playing and singing to me. I had to get my roommate in my seat and he said "creepy, it's like your own personal concert." This setup isn't even expensive or acoustically well set up. And then I realized that there is no avoiding getting a speaker rig when I settle.

So after 3 months, I'm getting bit tired of needing to get up each time I want to change the volume. Assuming some unexpected expenses don't come up, I've been thinking about Adcom GFP-750, maybe in a month or two. Are there anything else I should be looking for? Also, anyone know anything about PS Audio's P-200?

I especially love the speaker stands and I understand why Tyll has to price them like that (explained on that other place), but damn, if only they were cheaper/I were richer/etc.

Hello all, for a long time I've been looking into speakers for the living room. The living room(it's a living room/dining room) is 14'x27'x8'(WxLxH), the sofa is placed 12ft from the wall. I've been looking at getting these; Magnepan MMG For Sale | AudiogoN I don't have any amplifiers so recommendations for one would be nice. I have been thinking about the Emotiva XPA-2. I'd be happy to hear any other recommendations, the budget for the speakers is of ~$1000, although I can stretch it a little bit but I would prefer not to so I can get the other components. Thanks.

Hi all, I'd appreciate your help on the following: I have medium pile carpeting over an uneven floor in my listening room. My old Apogee Centaurs used to have spikes and they were always a nuisance because it was so hard to reposition. After those speakers died (RIP - I loved them!), I have since acquired a pair of used Meadowlark Shearwater Hotrods which I'm very happy with, but they didn't come with their spikes. I am noticing now that the left speaker's back left edge is tilted back a bit because of my uneven flooring under the carpeting. Now I'm missing those spikes I used to hate. I wonder how much it is ruining my imaging because I think even small changes in how…

As some of you may know, I am fascinated by older audio designs that have stood the test of time. I was reading about a new production Rogers LS3/5a in a recent Hi-Fi News, and this drove me to the internet to do more research. It definitely sounds like a speaker I am interested in hearing. I?m counting my chickens before they hatch a bit, but I?m looking for some suggestions/recommendations for speakers and power amp at around $1600-$2000. They will be fed by 840C as a source and I will most likely be using either my Beta22 or Luminous Audio Axiom as a preamp for the time being. Ok let me explain how my speaker rig is currently setup. I have the APL 3910 and the Modwright 9100ES going into the two of the inputs on the Modwright SWL 9.0SE. The modwright pre's outputs are connected to the D-Sonic power amp. Now on to where the problem(s) come into play. I also have my denon 4308ci recievers front channel pre-outs connected to the HT Bypass input on the Modwright pre. The ht bypass input essentially ignores the volume control on the modwright allowing the volume to be controlled by only the reciever. When I have the reciever on (and the ht bypass input on the modwright pre selected) I have a pretty nasty ground loop hum. The hum i…

So like the title says, what speakers would you recommend at $1000, new or used? My room size is a 10x12x10 (WxLxH). The one thing I don't want is for the sound to be too overwhelming, and I definitely do not want boomy bass. There will not be a subwoofer. This is a spin-off of another thread: I have long wondered why IKEA does not make flat-pack speakers. Either a simple, but relatively large (larger than what you could conveniently load into a very small car anyways) single driver or 2-way speaker in a rectangular box (maybe with a port?) OR a crazy-super-sexxy single driver folded horn. I wonder if the market demand for a nicer speaker is just too small

I got back one of my C-22 preamps and my MC-75 monoblock from the repair shop yesterday. I've had these things for a decade, and I'm just now getting around to dealing with them properly. I haven't plugged the MC-75 into anything but the AC outlet so far, but I did just spend half an hour futzing around taking pictures of it: The case could use a good cleaning, but I'm not sure what cleaning product one uses on vintage tube amps. The repair tech tested all the tubes and said they did quite well. I understand the power tubes used the MC-75 are quite spendy to replace. I don't have any pitures of the C-22 preamp yet. With postjack's acquisition of Tkam's Quad 22Ls, it certainly looks like Quad is the FOTM lol. I got my Quad 12L active monitors today, and I am very pleased with the purchase, considering that I got it at half the MSRP. I find them to be very detailed and resolving, which shouldn't be surprising given that they are designed for studio mixing, but they are definitely not harsh. If anything, they have more of a treble roll-off than either my L3000s and K1000s. The midrange is smoooth though, and very pleasing to the ear, and bass has decent impact but is a bit sloppy right now because I'm still using the cardboxes they came with as temporary stands.
