  1. Well that was very quick shipping from FPE , Initially I was going for an all out black box, but FPE don’t do anodising after milling leaving the panels with silver edges, which got me thinking silver sides would help blend in more naturally, so that’s what I did. I’m really happy with the result overall, the fit is really good, the side edges and base of board have have good clearances. I’m still waiting on feet, final LED and volume knob. I’ll do some testing and see how I go with the temperature, uncased I was getting around ~65° over the regs, THATs and outputs, I may have to turn it down a little, depending... Here are the FPE files; https://akashare.egnyte.com/dl/PjWB17863x The side panels are profile 1 cut to a length of 172.7mm.

  8. One French mag sent in a pair of Elears for measurement the other week. Wasn't too shabby, dug pretty low for a dynamic open back, the treble peak wasn't too painful. The garden hose cable was annoying and I didn't like too much the upper mid suckout. With the overall treble happiness of higher end headphones I was pretty content with these. Build quality was superb unlike the Spirit Pros, which crack and creak.

  9. As proposed, I started this thread for all to share your KGSSHV Carbon build experience and to exchange Q&A. This is a natural follow up thread to the Carbon Group Buy thread. Here are the version of Gerber files used for the boards in the group buy: kgsshvcarbonv5.zip (amp board) kgsshvpssicfetdual2new.zip (GoldenReference HV power supply, all-in-one version) kgsshvpssicfetsinglenewrightfat.zip (GoldenReference HV power supply, B+ and bias) kgsshvpssicfetsinglenewleftfat.zip ( GoldenReference HV power supply, B- and 7815/7915 based +/-15V regulator) goldenreference4.zip (GoldenReference LV bipolar power supply) goldenreference4plus.zip (GoldenReference LV V+ power supply goldenreference4minus.zip (GoldenReference LV V- power supply) bias.zip (stand alone regulated Pro and Normal bias supply) I (or others) will follow up with BOM. EDIT 10/8: Updated the BOM and Mouser project for the Carbon V5 to use Vishay RN60D 174K resistors for the two 175K positions. The correct part to use is Mouser part # 71-RN60D1743F. It's a mil-spec resistor that is actually 1/2W even though it's listed as 1/4W. The previously listed Xicon is 1/4W rated and not sufficient for these positions. EDIT 10/13: Updated the BOM and Mouser project for Carbon V5 to use 3M 961102-6404-AR for the servo jumpers. Note that the BOM does not match the shared Mouser project due to parts availability at Mouser. I apologize for the errors in project/BOM. EDIT 9/10: link to shared Mouser project for the GR HV Dual. Need to add 2 LT1021-10 and missing parts not available at Mouser. Please help check for errors. http://www.mouser.com/ProjectManager/ProjectDetail.aspx?AccessID=54687aa8fa EDIT 9/12: link to shared Mouser project for the GR LV Dual. Need to add 2 LT1021-10 and your choice of insulation kits to mount uninsulated sands. Please help check for errors http://www.mouser.com/ProjectManager/ProjectDetail.aspx?AccessID=b6d687c7f7 EDIT 9/20: link to shared Mouser project for the Carbon V5 (1 channel only). Please help check for errors. http://www.mouser.com/ProjectManager/ProjectDetail.aspx?AccessID=7F837B24AA EDIT 10/19: GR HV Dual BOM in spreadsheet. More complete than the shared Mouser project above. GR HV BOM_Oct19.xls EDIT10/11: GR LV Dual BOM in spreadsheet. More complete than the shared Mouser project above. GR LV BOM_Oct 11.xls EDIT 12/11: Carbon V5 BOM (1 channel) in spreadsheet, uses KOA Speer resistors. HV Carbon V5 BOM_Dec11.xls

  10. It's so good... I kept it simple this time. 3 lb boston butt 1 cup apple cider vinegar 1 tbsp minced garlic Rubbed it in "Butt Rub" BBQ seasoning, plus smoked paprika, and 3 chopped vietnamese peppers 90 minutes under pressure.

  12. That reminds me - I need to sell my Audiolab CD player. It has easily the best Sabre implementation I have heard. I would be willing to let you try it out if you are interested - it's been sitting in a closet for years now.

  13. Another WES plus 009 just went for $5100, which makes it about $2600 for the WES alone. Not so great on the resale value compared to a BHSE.

  27. Awesome pork rinds. Great burger (gruyere and bacon), with a slice of my buddy's hangar steak Finished with some crazy fried bread pudding with caramel bourbon sauce with ice cream topped with house made toffee. Oh, and a couple drinks to go along with it. Florence City Limits Les Dauphins Cotes Du Rhone 2013 Such a great night. **BRENT**

  28. I love that about Schnabel, because it was one example of many of his uncompromising musicality. He had a stronger forward drive and sense of pulse than anyone, even Richter. Probably overdoes it a bit in the onslaught that is his Hammerklavier, though Anyone who wants to delve a bit into his methods should check out on youtube The Teaching of Artur Schnabel with Eunice Norton.

  29. Here is something new that I might make more of... the SMD KGSSHV. This is really my attempt to build a "cheap" electrostatic amp to bring a great amp to the masses. Lofty goal and I have no idea if it will succeed but its worth a shot.
