  1. Well, the Sunfire turned out to be a great choice, especially when I found the dreaded LFE+MAIN setting on my receiver. I also was rather impressed with the Best Buy Magnolia "Design Center" which there is one in Austin - which happens to be the closest to my house. I ended up with one of these for center. Need to re-Audessy things once we get some furniture moved around and then looking forward to the final product.

  2. Yeah, I think pretty much everyone at HC is at that point. We've also been through many, many FOTMS, enough to develop very keen bullshit detectors.

  5. After seeing John's audio rack in where he has his BHSE's amp section and PSU adjacent ( obviously not in this photo of his gear ), I decided to have my audio rack altered to allow me to do the same with my BHSE. The first photo is of how my audio rack was, to how it is now. Not very good photos so not easy to make out, but the bottom shelf ( empty ) is where the KGSSHV Carbon is going when John has built one for me that will hopefully be sometime next year.

  7. Agreed. I've basically lost all interest in SBAF other than for breaking news, meets, and the for-sale thread. Sounds like another prominent headphone related website we all know. I've never been quite sure quite what to make of Mike Moffat as an engineer. Anecdotally, some of the things he says publicly leave me scratching my head. While he does have some impressive innovations under his belt, being first to market has never seemed as important to me as being good. I have met him a few times and that didn't clear anything up. I own his current two top DACs in Yggy and Gun-MB, but I'm no where near confident enough to say that I hear big differences between those two and my Sabre based Oppo 105. Then again, I'm also getting to the point of satisfaction where a new component or headphone has to make a huge difference to even pique my interest.

  10. Yeah, I am been trying to figure out when the Gen 3 would ever be available. However, reading their statement that they were releasing it here late since several things didn't work so they were just giving it to China to begin with does not speak to a device that will not piss me off and get thrown in the trash angrily. 13. Sorry, but now you've just inadvertently started a conspiracy. It would be hard to imagine that TMoney has done anything to get banned, especially since Todd just implied that. Any off the record conversations would create controversy, unless there is some actual action we're not aware of. I'd suggest a payoff TMoney. Baked goods for all high rollers would be a good start.

  16. I tried them hands-on at CES. The two when put together do feel quite well integrated, the connection was not loose at all. It's a nifty setup, if slightly kludgey. I agree that a one-box solution would be more elegant, and possibly smaller. The Hugo 2 was where I was more impressed with audio performance, and it looks like they have solved some of the easily broken connectors of the original. However, despite being "higher power" according to the designer I spoke to, the headphone amp doesn't cut it compared to the Pico Power I had on hand. I found it odd that the main designer/engineer kept trying to impress upon me that the headphone amp was capable of driving speakers (all the statistics on it were quoted into 8ohm loads, rather than a more typical headphone impedance), and ignoring how it performed with actual headphones. Chord certainly can build a DAC, but their integration with the headphone world is definitely still a work in progress, IMO.

  17. I'll be busy HeadAmping during meet hours, but I am definitely excited that we have a good contingent for NYC adventures. Here's a couple of spots I haven't seen mentioned, that I enjoyed on my last NYC trip, not sure if they will be convenient to any of our activities, but though to mention them: Big Alice Brewing, Long Island City - Super chill little brewery, great smoked saison, several different good sours, and more. Met the owner, a laid-back guy from Wisconsin, who was very accommodating, and opened a bottle of their gin-barrel-aged anniversary beer for me and my companion to try, even though it wasn't on the menu. Really enjoyed this spot. City Hops Beer Store, 60th and 2nd - Think SF's city beer in miniature. Maybe 5 bar seats total. High-quality small taplist and friendly staff Augur's Well, East Village - I really liked the tap list and vibe at this place, they were pretty focused on local stuff mostly unfamiliar to my west coast ass, and I had a few amazing beers here. Ginger Man is of course pretty close to our meet location, and has a great beer selection, if being a total clusterfuck both times I have visited.

  20. The AK100 is also an excellent candidate in term of a form factor adding on to the Mojo instead of a more expensive transport. I have the FiiO X5 Gen III in the house and it is an amazing DAP for the price. I expect it to be a big hit when they become widely available.

  33. Jeff I have a mojo and love it but I do have to say WTF on the Poly costing the same as the Mojo. Cool idea I just didn't figure I was buying half a DAP with the other half coming 16 months after the first. I am curious to see how well integrated the Poly Mojo feels after snapping them together. I hate traveling looking like Macgyver, between the phone, camera cable, usb cable strapped to the mojo.

  38. WRT to plankton, one of the coolest things I've ever done was going swimming in a cave where the water was filled with bioluminescent plankton. When you moved the water around you would light up like some kind of special effect. It was very ethereal. I'm hoping this Yggy behaves itself and that it lives up to the hype.
