You can sign up for a free trial, binge and not renew.

Isn't just like HBO productions, Netflix and Prime originals, Apple+, etc.?

Disney+ Is really the only one worth paying for as far as the various services are concerned. Netflix keeps raising pricing and throwing shitty subtitled movies from other countries on as new shows and Amazon has all the same shit as Netflix. If I am watching one of the services, it is almost always Disney+.

The executives that decided to fund the show or the ones that decided to not distribute it outside of their own service? Because they are probably the same people.

I think Chris Rock really kicked some acting ass in the finale.

That half smile and the twinkle in his eye and I was right there with him, bathing in the glow of the American Dream.

Another triumph and high point for the small screen (great score by Russo-FOTM).

 

Speaking of Jeff Russo, you might try CBS All Access for Star Trek Discovery/Piccard Dusty. 

That's next up in my show binges.

I rotate my "extra's" , Netflix, HBO, Showtime, Hulu, Acorn, Prime/Masterpiece and now CBS, Disney, and Apple. 

It's only me, so there no conflict and I only keep one at a time for a couple of months before I cancel. 

There are networks that I only get for one or two shows and when I'm caught up,.. bye bye.

One of these days I'm sure they'll find a way to put a wrench in my system.

My opinionated counterpoint: Nooooo! Disney+ is the worst. It’s like porn in that you get tired of really quickly. Hell, the desertscape of Apple+ feels like it has more potential at this point. Hulu+ is for cordcutters, though is repositioning for their constant sale. They’re also the premiere distination for horrible Xmas movies (though Netflix is challenging). Also Fargo! HBOMax is, of course, solid and has supplemental content from Turner Classics and Studio Ghibli. Netflix and Amazon are admittedly racing to the bottom, though both countering in producing, or usually buying, decent original content. Criterion is Criterion, the best... that we all don’t watch enough of. Kanopy, if your local library supports it, is free and not far behind Criterion and Turner.

The last 20 minutes of Mama Mia Here we go again.

Dear God this is horrible! I knew it would be bad, but I had no idea!

I'm only watching because something is coming on that I want to see. Had I known how awful this would be, I'd have watched 20 minutes of something else. 

Watched the livestream of Yvette Young and her band Covet, and it was fantastic!  The set was beautiful with flowers everywhere, professionally shot and the sound was that perfect balance between live and studio, almost like a Peel Session.

And of course the music was that math rock that really only they can deliver.

Angels in America

I've heard from people for a long time that this is one of the best things HBO has ever done but I never got around to watching it before.

Yeah... its pretty great. I don't think I've ever get tired of watching Al Pacino yell at people. Makes me want to see it on stage some day when our current plague is behind us.

The stage production was two nights. Quite intense at the time. Watched the film version too. Hard to wrap my head around seeing it again.

Maybe the opposite of Angels in America, watching Heaven's Gate: Cults of Cults (HBO). "Cult" is obviously a loaded term applied often fuzzily (and/or from another questionable groups own biases), but have always been interested in this one, as I may have mentioned before, a Heaven's Gate ad is what I saw a few months after moving to California three decades ago, and sent 6-7 copies of it back to my friends in Ohio to say "I've arrived in California!". One of them was to a girl I previously dated in a different international "techno-focused California cult" (sorry, WCG), which seemed normal-ish in comparison (and I stupidly only made the connection after both dissolved). Anyway, cult docs almost never hit the mark when it comes to understanding the attraction of of their followers, instead demonizing its leads, and this suffers the same, but still fascinating. And as always sex is a big part of it.

Who says Star Trek never hurt anyone?  

 

I got the feeling that sex wasn't a part of it. Which I found even more strange. 

More listening than watching, but Lux Terminus starting at about 10:40 and the cellist looper immediately after were highlights.  Most of the rest had harsh vocals, so only recommended for the metal heads.  Day one was great, too, especially Novena doing a metal version of Feliz Navidad.

Well, we're probably playing semantics. When one struggles with one's gayness, gives it the old college try in the opposite direction, finds a domineering woman, probably focuses too much on Spock, and then goes, and encourages others to go, hard-core celibate (ending with castration), you decide if sex is absent or everywhere. See also Shakers. I probably should have said "sexuality."

We also watched "The Queen's Gambit"  last weekend. But, we had the strange experience of watching the final episode first, by accident. The manner in which the final episode opens, I (mistakenly) figured the whole season was told through flashbacks. By the time we realized what was going on, we just finished it. Then we went back and watched the rest of the season from the beginning.

Knowing the final outcome took nothing away from watching Beth's journey from the start. In fact, it may have engaged us more by giving us the money-shot up front. Either way, as others have already said: it's a great watch. And if Anya Taylor-Joy wasn't already a star, this solidifies it.

 

Deadwood

What an absolute joy this show has been. I missed it back in the day, but going through it now on HBO Max over the past two months has been delightful.

I fell in love with the amazing cast of characters and the setting. Al Swearengen is the fucking man. I'm really going to miss watching it now that it is all over.

The movie, coming 10 years later, was also a beautiful send-off and love letter to fans of the show.

Recommended without qualification!
