September 17, 201213 yr A buddy of mine was telling me today that Verizon is offering him 159$ for his AT&T iPhone 4 16GB. You may wanna see what the carriers will offer. That could be even easier than Gazelle/eBay, and it's possible that you could save some cash on tax, depending on how the trade is done. **BRENT**
September 18, 201213 yr Lightning to 30-pin dock adapters popping up all over ebay for about $10/each. i ordered 2 just to see what they are.
September 18, 201213 yr Returned my iPhone4 I got early Sept. for a 16Gb 4S (within the 30 day window). Good enough for me... Edited September 18, 201213 yr by Pars
September 18, 201213 yr ^^^ Yep, that is what we have. Unless we travel there is no 4g/lte around here and it still kicks our previous android phones butt.
September 19, 201213 yr so iOS 6 is out. not sure if i can update my new iPad yet, but if i can, how hard is it to reverse the update if it bricks USB DACs?
September 19, 201213 yr Author It's not easy to rollback an iOS device in my experience. I tried to do it when iOS 4 ruined my iPhone 3G but it was so frustrating that I ditched the iPhone altogether.
September 19, 201213 yr Author i guess those iTunes backups are just personal content then. doh. Correct and I may be wrong but you may have a hard time restoring personal content onto a device that you try to rollback. Technically I think you might have to jailbreak to rollback but it's been so long since I looked into it that others will need to weigh in here. It's one of the things that I do not like about Apple.
September 19, 201213 yr Not sure if you need to jailbrake first but I used to do this all the time on my 3GS. First you need tiny umbrella to act as a firewall by copying the tags from your ipad and thus allow you to install old revisions. It's pretty easy if you do it before the update.
September 19, 201213 yr iOS6 compatible with ipod touch 4th gen... sucks. The end of aps for older ipods? I have a gen 2 touch. I really wasn't looking to upgrade as I use this ipod with the onkyo dock to get digital out. I guess at some point it had to happen.
September 19, 201213 yr The upgrade to iOS6 OTA on my 4s was painless. Seems snappier... No ill effects so far. Most people who aren't fans are those who used Maps a lot. I never used it, so the changes and addition of turn by turn may get me to switch from Navigon. Time will tell.
September 20, 201213 yr snappier & Safari hasn't crashed on me yet...it used to crash multiple times, daily... the Google Maps thing really is bugging me...there are so many sites (say of bars that I'd like to be at) that have Google Maps links...when you click them, it's not like Apple takes over...you get the crappy mobile version of the Google Maps website which, of course, doesn't load properly in the new Mobile Safari...I'm assuming that'll get fixed & Google will release a new native app shortly... I've got no idea wtf Passbook is & hope never to find out... It's worth upgrading, I'd just wait a bit...
September 20, 201213 yr It is my understanding that Google Maps should still work, it's just no longer the default mapping target app -- perhaps reinstall it?
September 20, 201213 yr Google is working on a stand-alone app, but there isn't an option to keep the old Maps app once you upgrade. It may have taken getting booted out of iOS for them to offer turn-by-turn for Apple devices. Should (eventually) be win-win because the competition for data will drive each app to improve.
September 20, 201213 yr Oh yeah... My favorite new feature, by far, is the full-screen view in Safari landscape. Makes viewing full websites significantly easier.
September 20, 201213 yr iOS6 compatible with ipod touch 4th gen... sucks. The end of aps for older ipods? I have a gen 2 touch. I really wasn't looking to upgrade as I use this ipod with the onkyo dock to get digital out. I guess at some point it had to happen. Actually I checked my iPod and it is actually 3rd gen.
September 20, 201213 yr It is my understanding that Google Maps should still work, it's just no longer the default mapping target app -- perhaps reinstall it? confirmed as not an option...but, as was said, it might turn out brilliant for Google since all these links don't default to Apple's mishap... September 20, 201213 yr i'll have to wait for Larry to tell me if the Pico DAC still works on the new iPad w/ iOS 6
September 20, 201213 yr While I'm sure the early reviews regarding the speed of the iPhone 5 have a lot to do with the new A6 chip, it seems at least some of it can be attributed to optimization within the OS. Everything from app launching and switching to work within apps is much more fluid and quicker on my 4s. Lauren noticed it with her 4 as well.
September 20, 201213 yr My 4 is much faster. Maybe ill find issues with more use, but the new map seems fine to me.
September 20, 201213 yr I didn't realize there were issues with the map feature, but the tumblr blog for them seems fairly entertaining: http://theamazingios6maps.tumblr.com/
September 20, 201213 yr The notifications aren't working for me. Google voice is getting messages but they aren't popping up.
September 20, 201213 yr From MacOSXHints.com... New in iOS 6 is the ability to adjust the audio balance. Go to General > Accessibility > Hearing, and you'll find a L - R slider. ...also a mono switch next to it.
