Sitting in the SOS (DMV) waiting to renew my drivers license.   I have #76.  They're on 60

Yeah that's incredible alright. When I renewed in January it was about an hour. I need to go to the place you went four years from now.

When I got to TN, I got my license (not renewal) in 15 minutes , and had tags for the car I'd' bought the prior day 30 minutes after that, from a place across town.  Some advantages to being in a smaller town...

In VA you can look up the wait times and find the nearby ones that are not busy. Sometimes you can drive a bit more and save a lot of time.

Here in Cincinnati, there is one BMV that never has anybody in it.  I've been in and out in 10 minutes every time I've been there.

Well here in So Cal. they make you wait hours just because they can.

All DMV's are not created equal (even in Ca).

In another life, I was a driving instructor so I had to go to the DMV at least once a day. You get to know those places pretty well.

Among the 9 that I'd frequent, 2 were worth going to even if you had to make a 30 min drive to get there.

4 were crazy bad and one had a tendency to discriminate against just about anybody that could be called "different".

I had one older student that took the driving test at that one and flunked out twice. They told him he should consider selling his car and giving up driving.

I couldn't understand it. Even though he looked ancient, he drove a lot better than some young guys.

He had one more chance to get his license (without jumping through a lot of additional hoops).

I told him to go to one of my 2 favs and he got 100% and the testing guy complimented him on how well he was driving.

Ask around and maybe check Yelp.

Reks experience is not unusual.

If things haven't changed since the early '80s, nothing matches dealing with the MA Registry, especially the one in Lawrence.

The Mass RMV has actually got its shit together. My last interaction -- license renewal in the Summer -- was five minutes tops in Milford.

This is my usual one, I live about 2 miles from it; but haven't been there in a while.  I think Stretch is right that they've improved, but ONLY if you come relatively prepared.  My wife didn't have to wait long in Lawrence when my son got his permit, BUT she missed one piece of the application and information, so had to come back.

For my last renewal I pre-filled the form online, and I was in & out in about 10 minutes, including the eye test!  Not in Lawrence, but Wilmington (and fairly busy otherwise).

Just got back from seeing Sara Watkins in concert.  It was wonderful.

Got my fingers crossed for those living downriver of the Oroville Dam out here in California.

200,000 people had to be evacuated over the weekend because the dam is in danger of failing.

To quote Han Solo, "Hear me baby, hold together!"

Man plans, and God laughs......

Hoping everything is OK, and indeed the dam holds......

Well It happened yesterday but @Sherwood sent me the pictures today.

We organised a small Istanbul Head-Case meeting with Tyler Abi. at his house. It was increadibly fun. Here are pictures:

Great pics, glad you got together!

My father and mother don't want to give me the cats. Well they are completely fine there, have a big house, yard to play, etc.

Thanks :) Tyler Abi took them. He is great.

Began packing for our weekend trip to Kansas City for a fencing tournament.  I expect lots of relaxation, fine wine and fine dining and no broken foils like the one Lance broke on Tuesday.

I was told by a travel agent that Kansas City in February is just like Maui in May except without the palm trees, ocean breeze, suntans, Mai Tais, and surf.
