Hey now! Short story is I'm tired of messing with phone cameras. There's always something I'm unhappy with: apps are slow to load, difficult to hold the phone and take a good picture, changing settings using a touchscreen, takes too long for pictures to focus, etc. What I'm looking for is a nice point n' shoot for vacations, family pictures, and totin' around music festivals. Most music festivals won't let you into the concert grounds with a camera with a detachable lens, as they reserve this privilege for people with press passes. Some have revised their rules to be "no detachable lenses over 2 inches" or something similar, but I'd rather it not be an issue as al…

I seem to have lost my camera. It was quite old and not very good anyway. I'm in the market to get a new one. Wants: Ease of use. I'm not much of a photographer, but would like to be able to quickly, easily take a pic without much fuss and bother. Small size and fairly durable. Can drop in my purse without fear (my purse is actually very neat with no random debris lying about the bottom). Not expensive. Since I have no plans to use it often, I see no need to spend big bucks on this. I'm looking at $100-300. I've been looking around at cameras, and there are hundred that seem to fit my want list. I'm trying to narrow down the choices, so if anyone…

So I played in a free poker tournament in NYC tonight hosted by partypoker.com or something, in Times Square. It was a pretty cool event actually, with free open bar and free food as well. There were about 200 people in the tournament. The good news is that I finished in 7th place. The bad news is that when I was at the final table, my nice coat was stolen off the back of my chair when I was standing up during an all-in The kicker is that while I was looking for my jacket, my 7th place prize (a set of nice poker chips in an aluminum case) was stolen from the tournament organizers. They said they'd mail me the prize - I really hope they follow up on that. Bas…

Unfortunately, it was people with attitudes like that which got us the idiot we've had now for 7 years. Don't misunderstand, I know what you are saying but at least there are two candidates that will do things a bit differently than they've been done for the last 7 years. Again, not perfect but certainly an improvement. Sorry, I didn't mean to jump on you like that but I hate when I hear people talk like this because if something doesn't change, things will be even worse than they are now, especially if a Republican gets to appoint more Justices to the Supreme Court.

For the non-parents among you, this will probably seem fairly meaningless, but... When I got home from the Cincy meet on Saturday, my son had made his first poopy in the potty without direction! He turns two in about a month! Doggone smart kid, and freedom from diapers is on the horizon!!!!!

Hey all, I am flying this afternoon and am planning on bringing my portable headphone amp in my carry on bag. I won't have any full size cans, just my IEMs with me (which might make explaining what it is even harder). Has anyone had problems getting through security with one? It does look rather odd if you don't know what it is, especially when tethered to my ipod and there is a LOD between them.

Here's the deal: Many of you know I've been looking for work for a good while. This company (Liberty National Insurance) has been recruiting in my area, and the spiel is enticing. Follow the plan, do the legwork, work hard, get well compensated. I've read pros and cons about this place (not unlike many/most places out there), and it's obvious some people can't hack it, and some don't get good trainers, and it just doesn't work for everyone, and that's fine. I'm just trying to figure out if anyone has any first/second-hand knowledge of the firm, and those thoughts. Seems you have to be a licensed insurance agent, and I got all the info on where to do the online c…

To expand on Steve's idea, how about we all post the first HF rigs we had as a small trip down memory lane. Guess I'll get the ball rolling... My first HF rig (and prior to me knowing about all these crazy people and their headphones) was just a HD600 plugged into an old Kenwood integrated amp (headphone socket fed via resistors from the main amp) but since it isn't electrostatic it doesn't really count in my case. My first real headphone setup was the SRM-313/SR-007Mk1 combo, complete with a round SRE-15N extension cable and a stand/cover. After this all hope was lost... Source was shared with my speaker rig and the interconnects used cost more then the …

So this thread is like the "post the last thing you bought" thread except the rules are that you had to dumpster dive for it. Here is my latest find http://gilmore.chem.northwestern.edu/mp4-1.jpg http://gilmore.chem.northwestern.edu/mp4-2.jpg absolutely over exposes the camera even on iso 150 and f32. 4 x 150 watt flood. Less lightbulb soon.

We're mostly all grown ups now, with realistic ideas and expectations. Show us who you were when your goals and dreams were unhindered by caution flags and dead end roads. I wasn't overly unique, I wanted to be a rock star. Didn't matter that I couldn't sing. Yes those were my real teeth.
