I am thinking of getting another pair of AKG K271 again. I used to own them and mostly liked them. I think I remember that they were not quite as smooth as I would have liked in the treble and many a tiny bit lacking in bass but overall them were pretty neutral and very comfortable. Is there another pair of closed (full sized, comfortable) headphones that I should look at? I have the a pair of Thunderpants but don't love them and would like something more neutral. I have a couple of supra-aural cans (Sennheiser Momentum and Audio Technica ESW9) and I am not interested in those. I guess I also have a pair of Audio Technica ATH-900ltd that I let Tim use. I also …

Hi All, This is Zombie_X chiming in here. I have started this large information thread to help those who want a beyerdynamic headphone, but do not know what they sound like and or trying to pick one to suit their set-up. Since I have heard all of the models from 32Ohm-600Ohm's in their current production line, I thought I'd make this thread. I thought for once and for all I would do something about the abundance of threads regarding sonic differences between all the DT770, DT880, and DT990 models at all impedances. This thread will be the most comprehensive one ever to be around that will cover all the DT770-DT990 series in the 32Ohm-600Ohm range. I have heard every…

Post POST? Wtfruitcake? It was 2007(damn, 2009 already? damn), and I just HAD to get me a K701. Being that God is too great, I got them!!! Being that God is even GREATER THAN THAT, I had the DT 880'250'05 on hands to compare the TWO headphones at the same time...which resulted in the K701 being sold after 220-250(I forget, Sowwy) hours of conventional and pink noise burn-in. Well, WHY did I sell them so soon? Not only did I find the K701's soundstage less natural than the DT 880's(albeit, noticeably bigger than the latter can's soundstage), but the bass heft was seriously missing in the AKG TOTL can. As a born-to-play video gamer. Did I find this lack of lo…

I posted a Chinese version of this article several months ago and now I translated it and put it here. I guess some people here will be interested. I hope you like it. Actually I have some more articles like this pending but I just don't have the time to write it up. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It all started about a year ago that a second hand sr-omega popped up in the local community. From time to time omegas show up on markets around the world but this one is different: an omega with 007 drivers installed. When the drivers are replaced, such omega drops its …

God is Good< I appreciate your clicking open this thread. Hello There, Folks of the planet. LOL, This will be my very first review of the K701. God willing, the following words you see will satiate your mind with Food for thought, of the Fast food TYPE! God willing, it will satiate you sooo well, that you WILL read this REVIEW OUT LOud, vocalizing the following descriptions of THE AKG k701 in beautiful song - with or without having the k701 itself - in ways that only the Planet's best Soprano can. Well, never mind. Not only are there plenty descriptions of the K701 out there, and NOT ONLY do I have equipment in my audio chain, that may or mAY NOT even be …

This time we are looking at some IEM or just entry level Shure. They are designed to work with music players on-the-go with high noise isolation. Bundle Nothing really special here, 4 sets of silicon tips of different sizes, a carrying case, a extender cable (you will need it useless you hang your iPod on your face.) Build Real solid product, looks and feels like it can withstand many years of abuse from me. Cables are tough and a bit on the hard side, the cable leading from the headphone isn't that high quality, its just like standard cable to me, massive room for improvement. Worth noting that the extension cable have build quality leagues above the wh…

I've been loving my dt-250's at the office (and growing to despise the dt-990's treble. It's all hunky-dory until you get a bad recording. yikes), and while moving some boxes around at home I found my old Koss A-250 headphones from circa 2000. The headband clip for the right phone is finicky and the leatherette cups are starting to peel, but they really do have a sweet midrange (if not as warm as I prefer, see the beyer dt-250's). Their bass sort of sucks imho though - I have to boost them quite a bit to get a natural sounding bass quantity. A quick search or two reveals they were a FOTM a while back on HF, but I was too busy futzing with Stata to read about headphones at…

Hi guys, during the last five years, so many new TOTL headphones appeared in the market that I got totally lost how they compare. Because every brand claims that its own TOTL headphone is the best of the world. But also reviewers and people from the forums claim very different views. This is of course quite normal and maybe opening this thread might be very silly as things might have been said thousands of times already here. However, as a newbie on this forum I did not find real impressions especially on the HifiMan SUSVARA, especially when compared to STAX. And in addition to the headphones themselves, there is this multiple-headphone amplifier discu…

Hi everyone, I figure i would post this in the Headphones section so it can get the most traffic Because of the desire of a real-time chat about headphones, audio and general stuff, I invite you all to join our irc chatroom. We have over 30 members, most of which are active head-fi and head-case members and mods, and we have been around for almost 2 years already. Our chat and the mods are completely easygoing, you won't find any "headfi-like" behaviour in any way. You can talk about whatever you want! To join the channel with your browser, go to http://hhfjava.hopto.org http://hhfjava.sytes.net (corrected by grawk because null is a dumbass) However, If y…

Basically i got this huge wad of cash, and i need your advice on how to spend it. I don't want to do anything too silly. I was thinking of getting a few happy meals at mcdonalds... then maybe spluring the change on pennies i can throw out the window of my car. I was thinking also, maybe i can pickup an airhorn. I can use it inapropriate times (ex funerals, in the bathroom at my office when some guy is in the can). You guys think i should get a source? What kind of source can i get for that kinda scratch???

I just happened to get some nice headphones because I needed something for my new PC. I got the Headroom Balanced Desktop/Senn HD650 combo. As someone who used to have a pretty sweet stereo system (until my drug habit caused it to go away, but that problem is, thank god, way in the past) I was expecting to be happy with the sound of a nice set of headphones. Instead, I was blown away. This actually sounded better than my old high-end setup. Music was, for a long time, something that caused the neighbors to knock at my door and tell me to quiet down (apartment living sucks). I rarely listened to it other than in the car. However, I was so impressed with the sound that I li…

Does anyone know where to purchase a replacement elastic band for the Stax 007? Ideally same brown color. I have a larger head and the stock elastic is too tight, ideally would be great to have a looser fit. The rest of the fit is Ok the earcups seals pretty good but not as good as my 009. Thank you https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ns4Td8NJxBoQq_3J8vfCkfhP8J5gyJY_/view?usp=sharing

Anybody has any experience before? I currently hook 950 from KGSS. My fellow hobbyist from where I live was raving about 404LE and said its a better headphone than 950 and I should get it to complement the 950. FWIR also 404LE got a gleaming review almost everywhere. But no one is yet to comment VS 950. As usual, any comments or advise will be appreciated

Hi guys, Where i am living i don't have many opportunities to test headphones and equipment. So i have to blind shot with what i am ordering. I am listening to Jazz/Indie/Soul/Alternative Rock/Electronica/Female vocalist etc. And I want to use my FLAC collection via my laptop. Please recommend me a full setup for an about 800$ (second hand is OK, but i am in Europe). I don't care much for the mobility and if is upgradeable will be great. Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone I need an earbud or portable headphone for walks and riding public transportation listening metal and rock, ocassional movie soundtrack music from Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and iRiver T10. Budget is around 90$. I want earbuds or portable headphones(on or over ear), do not want IEMs, can't stand them. Open or closed doesn't really matter. For reference I have been using Sennheiser MX460 for 5 years with a period of Sony MDR-AS30(really like this behind the neck design). I've been reading the forum for a few days now and checking the local stores and a couple of online ones to see what's available to me. I have narrowed the choice down to these models(of c…

It started with repairing a badly damaged shangri la jr driver 2 years ago, I almost rebuilt the set from the diaphragm to the stators, and of course the dust cover😦 The first thing I discovered is that the 'nano-technology' used by hifiman actually comes from the covering used by indoors aircraft model enthusiasts, the name is OS film and it is still available on ebay or https://www.indoorffsupply.com/shop/os-film-25ft-roll-1 the driver of the hifiman estats is completely glued which is similar to the early stax lambdas, but hifiman glue is significantly worse...after opening the driver i found that they only use OS film for their dust cover, the diaphragm…

This video gives people a good look at the factory and their manufacturing process: http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2014/07/some-of-the-worlds-most-reknowned-headphones-built-in-a-brooklyn-townhouse/ SFW: hot glue action It should be interesting to see if their e series headphones are a measurable improvement on their predecessors. It seems like yesterday that they announced the i series.
