I haven't spent much time with the HD600 and now that I've sold the HD800, the 650 sounds a bit boomy. Granted, it is headphiled, but I suspect it would still sound boomy if I were to replace the grills. Any thoughts re the 600? I haven't spent much time with it. And what would be a good price used?

Now here is something fun... a new electrostatic set from Russia. I do read the Russian forums a bit and I've been following the semi-DIY stuff going on over there. Seeing that this one had matured I decided buy one. Here is the website for anybody interested: http://phenomenon.su/ I ordered it directly and this set was custom made for me. They have two versions available and I picked the Libratum as I prefer circular transducers. Cost was less than 2k$ with shipping here. As you might tell from the pics, the build quality is super impressive and makes most other headphones look like toys. I for one like the Russian utilitarian style where it is all a…

Yup. Right outtta the box. WTF? I was prepared to jump into a pair of SR-325i's, but after listening to them compared to the RS-2, I opted to upgrade. The RS-2 just sounded smoother and much more musical and relaxed. The demo pair was nice with not alot of hours, so I knew the sound would only get better. I paid my bill and brought home a sealed box. Hoo-yeah! After an hour, I heard the first stage of break in pass by...waitaminute....really? Yes, the sound had a very obvious change and I had to review the last few tunes to really believe it. Cool. Then I started listening more critically. It was then that I started fiddling with the balance. I slid t…

Have read repeatedly the HD650 shows one of the largest gains in going balanced. Just curious what cable (DIY, Mobius, Blacksilver, etc.) people are going with when moving balanced? Especially curious if you have any thoughts of synergy direct from DA10. Thanks.

Well we have all read reviews about the new Beyer?s, namely the DT880?s and the DT990?s so I won?t boar you with more dribble other than to say that I am a Beyer fan and like the new ones even more than the old ones. My review of the DT 990?s would be very positive. What I do want to comment on is my ?re-cableing of the DT 990?s. I used two 10 foot lengths of Mogami pure copper cable (shield and vinal removed) to put two 22ga. leads to each terminal for a total of eight wires used. I did it in a ?Y? configuration and drilled a hole in the other cup as opposed to running a length through the headband. No other mods were done. The end result: The sounds explode four…

I think these are one of the good 'uns under a thousand bucks and come up a little over half that used. They have nice tone, good speed, and focused soundstage. They have more sparkle and air than an LCD-2. LCD-2 bass has a slight edge in texture and a definite advantage in bass slam. HE-500 bass is almost a bit too Lambda-ish and can sound somewhat one note when underpowered. They sounded a lot more articulate off a Beta22. Where they really outshine the LCD is in the midrange and treble. There are some odd dips in the HE-500 mids, but it doesn't have that constant shelved down sound that the LCD has. They don't come close to either Omega in terms of resolution, but t…

I recently acquired a set of SR5N earspeakers, with white color. I am asking that how can one's decide if it is a gold editon or not?

Sadly, I have a noisy family. No but seriously they are real noisy. I listen currently to SR-007A Mk2 with KGST, but need a pair of closed back non-stats, which will be run off my PureBipolar. I have collected names, and have so far Focus Stellia or ZMF Verite Closed or Kennerton Rognir. A shop some hours away has 2/3 of these in stock. The question really is, for a stat devotee listening to acoustic music (classical and jazz) will any of these be acceptable in the aim to help me forget my family? Or will they all make me run screaming from the house instead?

http://www.sonicsense.com/blog I tried some different comparisons on this site. The AKG K702 vs Sennheiser HD650 was definitely revealing. They use a you-tube like linkand they play excerpts of the reference track and the headphone reproduction as recorded from their dummy head alternately. The 3 I listened to were The AKG K702 vs Sennheiser HD650, The Ultrasone ED8 vs Fostex TH900, and The AKG K812 vs Beyerdynamic T1 vs Ultrasone ED10 vs Sennheiser HD800. As I was using one of my HD600's that was connected to my computer, I found that in the first one the HD650 part sounded quite noticeably laid back compared to the reference portion of the compar…

Seems like Audio Technica is releasing an update model to their ATH-ANC7 called ATH-ANC7b. Audio Technica said the improvements made to the model include new electronics (not sure if they meant drivers, noise canceling or both), redesigned earcups for better comfort, the battery is easily accessible, and the package now has long and short cables. It should be available by August for the retail price of $220. New ATH-ANC7b QuietPoint headphones

So my Alessandro's are on majorrrr back order and I won't be getting those for awhile and my ears are curious about the ATH sound. Are there any entry level Audio Technicas that you would recommend to see if I would like their sound or not? Nothing expensive and I'd want to be able to have the ability to return them if I have to. Any suggestions?

Hi im looking to buy headphones but i dont know much about it and whats on the market now. I ve done some research and i found these: -Denon AH-P372 -Audio-Technica ATH-FC700 -MEElectronics HT-21 my price range is more or less the price of those three that i mentioned(like 20-40 euro). im looking for decent sound, they need to be comfortable of course(using them for 2-3 hours), outside noise isolation as much as possible in this price range, same for the sound coming out of the headphones to the outside. So if u have any suggentions that would be great and whats ur oponion on those headphones. Thank you.

Ugh.. I have sent them 5 unanswered emails, as well as called three times. All I want is a pair of K271 velour pads, and the foam inserts from a K240. Can anyone advise me here?

There is an odd mark that looks like an imperfection on the wood that shows up under T in "statement" in a few of the photos. Can't for the life of me figure out what is causing that, because it definitely isn't there when I look at them. Impressions to come!

Shit. I'd been listening to my RS-1s for a couple of hours. These are the darker wood used ones I bought from Larry at Headphile a couple of months back. I stopped the music and turned off the amp to roll out the tung sol's and RCA grey glass 6sn7, and roll in the sylvania gold pin 5687s and a Ken Rad vt-231 6sn7. All the tubes are firmly in place, and I crank up the amp. A few seconds later, I hear an alarming POP noise come from the general vicinity of my headphones and amp. Just a singular, loud, POP. The RS-1s are now only producing sound from the right cup. I plugged in the HD650 and everything is fine. I even rolled out the tubes in desperation, to no avail. F…

My sister and her husband is going to USA in a few days and it seems about time to spend some more on headphones I currently use a Beyer DT880 most of the time, and around here I seems to be of the few that are satisifed with them. However for certain records I would like a more upfront headphone, and from what I picked up Grados will fit the bill. An additional bonus is that Grado are silly expensive here, more than $500 for SR-225, so if I don't like them I should be able to sell them easily. Pricewise SR 125, SR 225 or SR325i seems like suitable phones. A few questions: What are "normal" shop prices in USA? Are they generally easy to come by (e.g. New Yo…

I know this was probably endlessly hashed out on HF back in the day, but I'm late to the HP1000 party and most of what I have been able to unearth over there is just the usual clueless blithering. So I ask you fine gents: Is there generally held to be a significant difference in sound quality between the HP1s and HP2s? I really, really dig the HP1s I got from Jim and I'm thinking thoughts. You know the ones.

Anyone heard these? The place I work at received a couple of these as loaners. Was curious if anyone has any opinion on them. Don't know if I'll get a chance to "borrow" them for a little bit.
