I figured I would start a thread for everyone to giggle at and get excited. The current status: ALL parts have been ordered. I ordered the stuff for the cable today: 4 pin XLR m/f -> 1/4 adapter via mini mogami neglex. I'm not currently balanced, but who's to say I wont stay this way

dad would like to get a pair of headphones. his office has gotten very noisy so he would like something closed but for him comfort is the top priority. sound quality doesnt even matter. this is what im thinking. Denon USA | AH-D1001 budget is roughly $150 shipped. nothing over. basically looking for a closed can that is super light weight and ultra comfortable. i dont know much about closed headphones so suggestions are welcome. will certainly not be using the headphones with an amp no matter how small as he is a desktop real estate freak. source will be a thinkpad laptop so a cable stock terminated to a mini plug would be a plus. also, he will be using it in his o…

I just got these in today after I got a good deal on eBay. I'm really surprised by how good these sound. It was hard to find information on these, but it seems they were released a few years ago (in 2003/2004). This is the japanese info page: http://www.audio-technica.co.jp/products/hp/pc/atc-ha4usb.html I was just wondering if anyone else had come across these in their audio journey? If I can make the NE mini-meet, I'd be happy to bring em along.

Do my Dad really enjoyed himself at the NYC Meet. He liked the people and had a great time listening to the awesome rigs. He used to be an audio enthusiast (stereo/speaker, not headphone) and I think the Meet might have rekindled the flame. It's cool because he's nearing retirement and will need a hobby or he will drive my mother insane. And he's asked me to recommend a starter rig. I'd like to start him out with a rig for around $1000 (less would be good). Just an amp and cans for the time being. DAC will be down the road, maybe. He listens to a lot of classic rock and folk, with a smattering of female country. His hearing is not 100% and he has a really eno…

I've been loving my dt-250's at the office (and growing to despise the dt-990's treble. It's all hunky-dory until you get a bad recording. yikes), and while moving some boxes around at home I found my old Koss A-250 headphones from circa 2000. The headband clip for the right phone is finicky and the leatherette cups are starting to peel, but they really do have a sweet midrange (if not as warm as I prefer, see the beyer dt-250's). Their bass sort of sucks imho though - I have to boost them quite a bit to get a natural sounding bass quantity. A quick search or two reveals they were a FOTM a while back on HF, but I was too busy futzing with Stata to read about headphones at…

Over at HF there is a mod for the Denon D2000/D5000 that is supposed to make them... (HF Topic) I'm not quite sure what to to make of this; he sounds pretty rational describing the mod. On the other hand he talks of vast differences after changing the phones' cables (and burning them in), which i tend to doubt. Has someone of you heard this 'spectacular' mod yet?

Cutting to the chase: it seems I’m in a headphone identity crisis of sorts. I’ll try to be as brief as possible, and I would dearly appreciate some help. I hope this is the place for it, and I apologize in advance if it isn't! I’ve recently found audio bliss with an O2 MKI, and right now my K1000s don’t get much head time. I got a Little Dot MKVI to use with it, and to be honest I’m not quite enjoying the result as much as I wanted, but I think to some short extent it could be solved with better tubes. The issue is that, with everything I’ve heard with it so far (nothing high end except for a Marantz PM-11S2), the AKG's midrange is harsh and dry sounding and the hi…

Hello, first post for me. I'm looking to buy Non-Insulating wireless earbuds for running and biking in city. I already have sennheiser pmx 685i, that I really like, the only problem is every 2-3 months I have to send them to repair to switch the cable. I'm a fan of sennheiser, I have sennheiser 598, sennheiser 380HD pro, and audio technica ath-m50x. here are my priorities: Wireless Non-Insulating Sound quality Behind the neck type (like the sennheiser pmx 685) Features such as heart beat monitor Price My budget is 250$ and under. 100$ is also a great option. I'm willing to buy in ear headphones if you're able to h…

I have a beyond super modded HD580 headphone cable and decided to share SOME of the mods on my site for free. I know some of these are already provided online on places such as head-fi, but I know for a fact the last part is not on head-fi or anywhere else. If I had missed something or made a mistake somewhere feel free to let me know. http://apuresound.com/hdsennmod.html Enjoy! -Alex-

Hi guys ! As you may know, I've always wanted a pair of HP2 but never got around to purchase them. I got my SR100 with HP1000 drivers and I'm wondering if I should sell them to fund a HP2 or just build a ~$1500 rig around my SR100 and wait till I have even more money to buy the HP2 without selling the SR100, I have always kept only the best headphone and sold the worst but in this case, it's harder to sell such a nice rare piece of gear that is the SR100. Any thoughts ?!

The Stax Sigma series panoramic earspeakers. 1. Models and nomenclature The Stax SR-Sigma panoramic earspeaker was introduced in 1977. There have been 3 versions officially released and 1 after-market version commissioned. The original low bias, grey grilled 1977 Sigma model (bias voltage of this model being 230V or “Normal”). The driver used was later recycled in the very successful Stax Lambda Semi-Panoramic earspeaker. The first release Sigma had a fabric coated, round bodied cord that connected the earspeaker to its amplifier/transformer. Later versions of the normal bias Sigma (1987) used a lower capacitance, flat black cable that was recycled back from the (then…

Well I finally got my system complete with the M^3 and I just don't like/find my system to sound anything special. Right now I have an Northstar 192 MKI and the M^3 using the laptop as a transport. I had the HF2 but it looks I'm not a grado person and for the reasons stated I sold it. Since I just got the M^3 I'm willing to give the system another try with a new headphone before I sell everything. I'm open to your suggestions.

i currently have UE Superfi 5 EB (extended bass) 's and i just got back from the UE place in Irvine where i tested out the demo models for the 10's,11's, and the new 18's and was kinda dissapointed. they're all lacking in the bass dept for the price tag that they have IMO . They said that after they're fitted to my ears, that they would have twice as much bass .. but i still think there should have been more on those universal demos compared to my year old universal 5 EB's. I'm thinking of checking out the new JH16's that are shipping next month but would like to hear some opinions on the JH13's from anyone who has had or tried them and may or may not have tried the UE's …

http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_DisplayProductInformation-Start?ProductSKU=MDRD777LP&DCMP=Redirect_ss_MDRRD777LP Looks scarily similar to triports in some ways... But it is a new contender in the closed headphone market, and seems to have something PTH like built in. Ultrasone also have announced their Edition 9, which seems to be a repackaged Edition 7.

This is just something I've been tinkering with in my head, not something I'm actually going to do at this point. But I decided to start this thread to see if the idea has any value, and also just to bounce it off all of your heads to look at it from every angle. Has anyone ever heard a reterminated balanced hp-1000 out of a true balanced rig? Even if not, any idea of the potential sonic benefits this could bring? Would it be worth messing with the JGUHBWLSJDYEWLCAQ cable? So far, the HP-2 is the only can I've heard that I like well enough to build a whole system around. Except maybe the HD650.

Ok, I generally hate these "advice" type threads but dammit, I'm considering some serious insanity and want the opinions of the other inmates at the asylum. I've been offered the opportunity to purchase a NOS HE60/HEV60 combo for what seems like a decent price so my questions are the following: 1. Is it worth abandoning (and selling) half my dynamic rig which would basically consist of the HA-2, both pair of Senn cans that I have and also the K340s in the name of a basic stat rig? 2. What would you consider a "fair price" for an NOS Baby O setup? Ugh, this is killing me.
