I don't think there is a general "I just heard these cool/sucky speakers" thread so I figure I can start one. I was thinking about consolidating and maybe getting my system down to two pairs: a nearfield monitors for late night listening and full range speaks for all out assault. So that is why I have being annoying a lot of hi-end sales people nowdays Yesterday I went to a few shops in NYC to listen to some stuff. First was a system with Devore Gibbons 9 with Shindo and Lab47 gear behind them. I did not like what I heard unfortunately. Dry and grainy, with shallow bass and strange coloration. I listened for an hour with a lot of different music. Listened to L…

I'm going to be re-arranging my HT/speaker rig pretty soon and I'm going to need different length speaker cables than what I have now. I don't have a budget in mind but I'm not going to spend a ton on this. I'll be needing two 10ft runs for the main speakers, a short 5ft cable for the center channel and two 25ft runs for the rear channels.

My rig is near my window and it seems that it is subject to some RF interference. My unshielded XLR cables buzzed, and now I suspect that the speaker cable that came with my AudioEngine 2's is picking up some interference. Is there any quick and easy way to shield the cheap speaker cable?

Anyone here know cheap speaker cables with small/skinny spade plugs? My McIntosh 2100 has tiny speaker taps (there's a pic of it around here somewhere) and most spades won't come close to fitting, unfortunately.

(large pic) https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1168044/headphone%20rig%202014/Stands-10-30-14-2.png This morning I noticed a loose section of the gasket on my speaker. Where the jigsaw parts meet. I very lightly pressed it back on to the sticky backing, but am not sure if the back is something fragile or not. Anyone know how big a deal this is?

I've decided to put together a B22 as speaker amp, but when it comes to speakers, I'm pretty clueless. I'm building it single-ended, so I can expect 18wpc. That seems wimpy compared to a lot of other amps, but the math, from what I can tell, says that should be enough for reasonably efficient speakers in a medium sized room. What kind of speakers am I looking at with this kind of power?

I admit it -- though primarily a headphone guy I enjoy drooling over pictures of beautiful speakers. For the artistry, for the engineering, for the lulz. I would enjoy seeing particularly striking examples you may happen to come across. These really struck me today. New Vienna Acoustics Klimt series. Concentric midrange/tweeter units adjustable for tilt and toe-in. Murata supertweeters. Eton spider-cone woofers. 22Hz - 100kHz. The black one makes me think of Barad-d

Does anyone know where to buy rubber surrounds for an 8" woofer? It's a Focal 8k415fhdg. I think it is a version of the Focal 8k415 but tweaked for Hales Design Group. The rubber surround has a hole in it. I have the piece that was torn out and I've toyed with the idea of using adhesive to put it back in place but I would like to replace the whole thing if I can. Thanks

I'm shopping around for a pair of speaker stands to hold my Quad 11L and I've read conflicting opinions regarding which material is better, so I'm wondering what you guys think? Does it make a noticeable difference? For what it's worth, I'm looking for something around 30 inches, with a budget of 100-120$, so feel free to shoot recommendations.

I?m counting my chickens before they hatch a bit, but I?m looking for some suggestions/recommendations for speakers and power amp at around $1600-$2000. They will be fed by 840C as a source and I will most likely be using either my Beta22 or Luminous Audio Axiom as a preamp for the time being. I prefer clear and cohesive sound throughout with good PRaT, and I?ll always take bass quality over quantity. One undecided factor is whether to sell my headphone gears for additional speaker fund, but I think I?m going to keep them for late-night listening and other times when I can use speakers. Also, any opinions on Dali Ikon 7?s? A local dealer has a pair for $1400 …

I was listening to Wish You Were Here the other day and I swear, Gilmour was in the wall playing and singing to me. I had to get my roommate in my seat and he said "creepy, it's like your own personal concert." This setup isn't even expensive or acoustically well set up. And then I realized that there is no avoiding getting a speaker rig when I settle.

So I figure I would get better responses posting this question here instead of at head-fi, because you guys probably have more experience with speakers. So like the title says, what speakers would you recommend at $1000, new or used? My room size is a 10x12x10 (WxLxH). The one thing I don't want is for the sound to be too overwhelming, and I definitely do not want boomy bass. There will not be a subwoofer. Also, I haven't decided whether to arrange the speakers on the long-wall or the short-wall yet. Right now all I'm looking for are just some suggestions. I don't know what I will be amping them with yet, I'll start looking into amps once I decide on something. My sou…

Folks, Does anyone have suggestions for the best sounding speakers I could get up to about $1500 new or slightly used? Currently have Boston Acoustics VR2 Looking for a definite step up in SQ, neutral and transparent, but not overly bright. Thanks Pete

Are these a good buy at 380 used? I'm actually trying to save up for the HD800 but speakers have been on my mind recently. I probably won't be able to preorder if I get these but that gives me time to see the reviews I guess. Since a lot of you have experience, could I get some information on how it will sound compared with the HD600/W5000? I'm running them out of flac/Musichall CD25, Northstar M192 and Gilmore Lite with DPS. thanks

I found a very nice deal on good condition and perfect working order Stax ELS-F81 speakers. Not the pair that I found but they look like this: I am very tempted to buy them, but I will need to get rid of my Apogees since I simply don't have space for forth speaker pair. Looks like Stax should play nice with my DNA-1 or Symphonic Line amps and give me a completely different presentation of what I have now. Do you think I should side-grade?

I have been looking for some small active speakers for my room so I did a whole lot of research and ended up auditioning studio monitors at a local store. I listened to the following: Adam A5x,A7x JBL LSR2325P Presonus Eris E8 Yamaha HS7 Neumann KH120 ... And I didn't like them. I tried moving around the test room, aligning my ears to the tweeters, various types of music (including some tracks I know well), nothing seemed to work. I found this really frustrating as I had read over and over again that studio monitors should present an accurate sound and have a linear frequency response. The most convincing to me was the Neumann KH120, but I just didn't like the …

I'm just about done building the Leach amplifier (~100Wrms / channel). I was hoping to get some suggestions for first speakers to match with it, probably in the price range $200-400. All I've got now are some no-name bookshelf speakers. Some floor-standers might be nice, but I really don't know too much about speakers. Thanks, Evan aka bperboy Here's one channel completed. I haven't finished building the other channel yet. Forgive the messy wiring; I will tidy it up nearer to the end of the project.

Hey guys, Looking for a pair of monitors to pair up with a Pass Labs X250. Details is the priority but a tidbit of warmth is ok with me, hence the Pass amp. A big plus if the speakers come in a white finish; budget is around 3K. Appreciate any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

My sister wants me to help her with ideas for a simple system under $500 or close. She will use her Ipod. I think she also has an airport express? Here is what she said: i want something that looks good (minimal design) and, of course, sounds good and can connect to my ipod. i don't really have a home system - just a small bookshelf stereo that i might get rid of. She is definitely not an audiophile. Any thoughts appreciated.

Anyone have experience with them? If you do, please let me know the details and what you think of them. What you're using, how they're setup physically, crossover frequency, dispersion characteristics, horn vs. ribbon, etc. Oh, and uh, how they sound. Thanks.

So finally accepting the fact that I'm a bass head, I've decided to pair a sub with my 22Ls. While it'd be cool to get the Quad L-sub and have a matching set, reviews of the L-sub say it lacks the lowest bass frequencies. I would be devastated if I paid $1000 for a heavy ass sub and it didn't reproduce low bass effectively, so I've decided to go with SVS and save some money at the same time. Room size is 13 x 10, ceiling height just under 8'. As you can imagine, floor space is at a minimum. My 22Ls are 18" from the side wall and 24" from the back wall. So, while I could possibly squeeze the PB12-NSD in the corner behind the speakers, it would be a tight squeeze,…

Thoughts? Love their subs. Know nothing about their speakers. https://www.svsound.com/pages/prime-wireless?trk_msg=5C779H17RDT4J40JEJ1495T5U4&trk_contact=8T0747KP65NMVFNSLND94PJNEK&trk_sid=PS3AM98N4C4R54KDQ88DCBH5A8&utm_source=listrak&utm_medium=email&utm_term=Prime+Wireless+Has+Arrived+Image&utm_campaign=SVS+Prime+Wireless+Now+Shipping!+Smart.+Immersive.+Magic.++
