http://www.theverge....-gaming-console Disclaimer: There isn't a hell of a lot of concrete data or sources behind this article. Take it for the overglorified rumormongering that it is but I personally think there's a grain of truth to the overall broad concept being suggested here. Obviously if GDC and E3 come and go and we see and hear nothing than it's a bunch of crap and we move on. Valve were ambitious pioneers with Steam way back in 2004. This has the potential makings of being another ambitious and possibly pioneering move by them yet again. If basically set themselves up as the Android of the entire gaming world that's huge for them. If nothing…

Anybody play World of Tanks? I love this game because it's casual. You can pick up whenever you want and stop whenever you want. Great game. My account is fdu. Feel free to add me.

I've been playing this quite a bit recently; does anyone else on here play? If you haven't heard of it before, it's a realistic zombie survival simulator that is simple AWESOME! Imagine hopping on vent/skype with a few friends, and spending 1-2 hours to find each other, and then try to survive. You can die by zombies, which are all controlled by AI, other players gunning you down (or you can cooperate with them), or by hunger/thirst/injuries, so it is not just another zombie game where you gun down everything you see. This will give you a good idea of the teamwork/fun involved! Lots of hilarious moments. Or you could encounter bandits, hostile players that …

Ok, so the Boy wants a video game console. I want to get him one that we can use together. My initial assumption was Wii U, but it is getting mixed reviews. What do you guys think? XBOX with Kinect? Basically, I want something that has good multi-player, non-shooting games. So lots of sports titles and things that the Boy can physically do instead of just using the controller. Don't care about Blu-Ray, etc.

I've been thinking. Bad habit, I know... The PC, as a gaming platform, is superior to consoles. It is more powerful and more customizable, it offers unparalleled support for third party controllers as well as support for independent developers. It is cheaper to develop for, and its native keyboard and mouse interface is significantly more precise than a dual analog stick controller. But all of this comes at a cost - a good gaming PC is a lot more expensive than a console, and it also requires time to set up as well as some technical skill on part of the user. Consoles, in the meanwhile, are cheap, easy to use, require almost no effort to set up, and offer a platform t…

http://www.ign.com/wikis/xbox-one/Xbox_One_Price_and_Bundles $499 seems about $100 too much but I went ahead and plunked down on Amazon. I figure I can always cancel later if I change my mind. The TV integrated features seem pretty damn cool.

Since I live in the orient, where real, legal PS3 games are a thing of the past, I have to order physical games online. I ordered "Last of Us" on father's day (or to be precise, I ordered it and told my wife that the dog ordered it as a father's day present) and finally got it in. Open it up, dust off the never-used PS3, and it can't read the disc. Can't read any other game disc, either. It just makes the "eject" sound, and fails to initialize. FFuuuuuuu... So I order another drive after wading through a goddamn WaReZ nightmare of finding part numbers and sifting through descriptions of long-since unused parts. That will be here in another 3 weeks or so. …

One of the only game series that excites me anymore, mostly due to a lack of time for more involved games. I mainly just explore and blow stuff up. Rockstar released a video of actual in game footage, and I have to say, I am really looking forward to this one.... once it is released for PC (fingers crossed it is not a shitty port like IV). http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=N-xHcvug3WI

Thanks to the efforts of a redditor, some previously console-exclusive DLC for GRID is now available via P2P. It adds 20 new cars and a new track to the game. The files are also available here and here.

I am not much of a gamer but my brother sent me this link for 8 popular (although a little dated) games. You essentially pay what you want and the money goes to charity, except that you have to pay at least above the average (which was $4.73 when I signed up). Could be useful for some folks and the money is going to a good cause. https://www.humblebundle.com/?utm_source=MadMimi&utm_medium=email&utm_content=Introducing+the+Humble+Origin+Bundle!&utm_campaign=20130813_m116906107_Introducing+the+Humble+Origin+Bundle!&utm_term=Humble+Origin+Bundle

We have a couple games bumping around the "What Are You Playing" thread, as of late, so I thought it might be cleaner to use this space to discuss the greatest of those games, Elite:Dangerous. I'll grab some screenshots of my lousy ship and uninspiring progress later tonight, to get things started.

Did any of you goons buy into this one during the kickstarter? I was a bit wary of buying into a game so early in development, but the scope's looking pretty damn big now, and it's still in alpha. It's a huge space simulator in a huge persistent universe, but it also has some more simplified sub-games like arena combat and space racing. There's a free weekend going on right now, so I'll probably fly around and shoot at junk. It's a bit of a behemoth download at 27gb, so my condolences to any of you recently inflicted with Comcast. https://robertsspaceindustries.com/ for more info on what the game is about. It won't be listed on steam or origin, since it's b…

Since the old thread seems to be gone, here's the new one to post what games you're playing! I'm still on my Final Fantasy XIV binge, because there's so goddamn much still for me to do in it despite the countless hours I've logged playing it. When I'm not busy just being the prettiest miqo'te in the game, that is.

Is anyone else playing? I figured I'd keep the other thread clear so we don't have to listen to @Dreadhead whine about not being able to catch a Magikarp. Zoe and I have been playing daily (nightly?) since the Friday before last, and she is having a blast. She's even a couple levels ahead of me. This game has gotten a very anxiety ridden teenager out amongst people 5 to 30 years her senior, and occasionally we run into her friends from school she hasn't seen all year. I'm having a blast bonding, and having a fair bit of fun with my catch-and-release Magikarp program. Currently I'm 19360/25000 XP on level 18, and Zoe's deep into level 20. Where are you? **BRENT**

Yes, I'm a sucker for Zelda and Nintendo Portables. I pre-ordered the Switch and Breath of the Wild. Anyone else getting the Switch? I still have my original Game Boy from 1989. Also many other iterations afterwards. I'll have to post a Nintendo Portables line up picture when I get the Switch.

This is as cool as can be, and something I know that Shell will love. It's just amazing to me how it works. Watch the 3 videos for the math and such. http://www.loop-the-game.com/ So I got interested and emailed the guy for pricing. Turns out they're quite expensive, not surprising since they're handmade and quite tricky to get just right. Cost is £15,000 plus shipping. Gulp.

I just started playing Persona 5 and it is incredible. You don't get a lot of games with this level of style, deep storytelling, and variety. Persona 4 also had a killer soundtrack and I'd say this is one of the best reasons to get a Playstation. The only weakness of the games is their linear design and the slight repetition of the battles. In a way, I think the Persona games tell you more about modern Japan than Sega's Yakuza games (which are also legendary).
