  1. Too much corn squeezens for me... not bad though - its almost like whisky 😈
  2. I just did some recordings and stage work for some of them during south bay concerts. A real honor!
  3. Far too hung over for the dirt bike, so taking the car over the pass to Tahoe seemed like a great way to kill time. The whole mask thing didn't seem too popular up at incline village. I was really surprised.

the tariffs + COVID has created a very strange scenario for US retailers that can be summarized as both slow and unpredictable. my observations the past two-three months... Post-tariffs but pre-COVID: any releases in this window (e.g. K&L had a number of exclusive bottlings arrive from independents) - prices are increased as-expected Post-tariffs and post-COVID: if the planned released didn't happen before COVID, it basically still hasn't happened (e.g. Kilkerran 8 year CS sherry). there have been a minuscule number of new releases actually make it stateside in the last 6-8 weeks. If they have been - some prices seem increased (e.g. Redbreast 27) but not all Existing releases or core range bottlings (e.g. things like Lagavulin 16, Ardbeg 10) are largely still not increased in price. this is very region-specific but it appears that most of your go-to's are not yet much increased at least for California and Illinois. There are exceptions - Springbank bottles which were already expensive are now catastrophically so (Springbank 10 is now $100 msrp... get the fuck outta here with that shit). my answer has been to bypass all of this and try to import as much as i can from the EU. even with shipping costs and delays, the situation in EU is far more predictable and stable than the US. there are so many bottles that are so much cheaper if you import and they also are always getting independent bottlings that i'm particularly interested in. it's a bit of a shame as i want to support my usual locals but i'm at the point where buying is very selective and i'm not typically re-stocking standard bottles.

  8. Cheers to that. I’ve said it elsewhere and I’ll say it here: good on you, kudos, etc. And if you’re a recovering alcoholic, stay strong and congratulations on staying strong. I have several teetotaler friends, and often teetotal when I’m with them.
  9. This whole thing is just odd - less than 24 hours after getting a call from FedEx to inform me that the "shipper" in Taiwan had sent FedEx the wrong item to ship and the correct item has not been shipped and I should contact the shipper directly, the boards showed up yesterday (I know that PCBnet has some of their boards fabricated in their Taiwan facility). As expected, these 2mm boards look and feel great! Going to start packaging boards for shipment and I should receive the GRHVxxxx bare boards next week.

I think I'm gonna stare at the void awhile longer and save some more Wilfreds. I keep flip-flopping on what kind of thing I even want. Elektron's samplers intrigue me, so do their FM synths, and Arturia have nice drum machines and the Microfreak. Or for the price of one of those, I could get a couple Volcas and an NTS-1. Then there's the Poly-D. Probably best to sit on my money and play the synths I already have for awhile.
  13. You put your arms through first, right?
  14. Moving away from the SF Bay Area was a mostly about cost/income but I sorely miss the cultural groups there. Among them are Other Minds music family. I'm happy to say I was able to do some audio work with some of them and I still keep up with their activities online.
  15. Nice deal. Might have jumped on that but Shelly gave up her extra M51. Don't know if it will replace the Opus 21 or not. Listen to Raising Sand last night on the Opus. OMG.

I admit to having lust for the Model D, Poly D, and TD-3.
  17. The scary part is it will be 40 years next year. I'm getting old.......

It’s not just the douchiness, I recently read a story that the quality control is circumspect, and their customer support is for shit, and it makes sense. They’re cheap for a reason, they cut corners.
  28. Happy 50th Rob! Sorry we can't all get together and party to celebrate your half century. Have a good one anyway. Cheers!

Even though I'm solidly ITB, the O-CTL from Make Noise has tempted me big time (probably with the O-Coast).
  30. Happy birthday, Rob! (party favour noise)
  31. American Experience got around to doing their retrospective on the GW Bush presidency, and it is excellent. Harsh but fair. I enjoyed it very much. Knowing what we know now I think there is no way in hell he should have been given a 2nd term, but, having had one, did a much better job leading the nation from 2005-2008 than he did from 2001-2004. What a fucking awful mistake to go into Iraq though. https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/americanexperience/films/george-w-bush/

  35. Really enjoying him in Season Three of Westworld. Me: while respecting social distancing, socialized (we met outside a restaurant and kept 6 feet apart while we waited for our food, then took it home and ate it separately) ...just for practice...gotta put on pants once a week or so, just so's I don't forget how...
  36. Thanks Nate & Rob & Jim. My dilemma. I really like the Opus 21. Not entirely convinced a newer dac is better. I forgot to mention the brooklyn dac+ . also on my short list of current models to consider. PM sent re the m51. thanks!
  37. This. I loved listening to that thing at meets when one would show up. If I owned one I wouldn't be looking to upgrade.
  38. I deliberately didn’t post that because I’m embarrassed, like parents fighting in front of their children. So anyway, here’s Kawehi (starts out with her trademark silliness)
  39. Old man music. David Gilmour can play a guitar. Apparently he and Roger Waters are still squabbling to this day. Some things are eternal. https://pitchfork.com/news/roger-waters-feuds-with-david-gilmour-over-pink-floyd-website/

Received that pewter half pint tankard I ordered to use for drinking whisky, but without the handle, and I’m very happy with it. For size comparison here’s a photo of it with one of the stainless steel glasses I use for drinking whisky.
