The reason the great Jamaican stuff deepens over time, over years, not with nostalgia but with meaning and nuance, is that it's a spiritual music. That's the anomaly underlying its power... In the States, rock 'n' roll is always on some level a move away from God into the devil's music, but in Jamaica the cultural conditions were different. Pop grew toward Jah. https://www.gq.com/story/bunny-wailer-john-jeremiah-sullivan3 points

And now for something insane. The two monoblocks weigh half a ton, and in US speak around $400k . Dan D'Agostino going totally bonkers. https://dandagostino.com/products/relentless-monoblock.php2 points

Hi @Pars I think I have some spare boards with the latest version, that has the servo completely out of the audio path, as Kevin said. Tomorrow I let you know. Best Tiago1 point

Kate Bush – The Dreaming I must be in the right mood... really enjoying the album this time. I think the other listens have been while I've been working, which doesn't help with such an intense array of sounds and ideas. Public Image Ltd – Metal Box1 point

The key difference between a toroid and an R-core is primary/secondary capacitance and leakage inductance. R-core has primary and secondary on opposite legs. So the capacitance is low, but the leakage inductance is high. With a toroid, the capacitance is high, but the leakage inductance is low. So an R-core (like a split bobbin EI) is better for not coupling RFI between windings. But the leakage inductance means enough stray magnetic field to cause potential hum problems. A toroid by contrast, because of the tight coupling between the windings, tends to couple RF. But because of the low leakage inductance has a very low external magnetic field. Basically, horses for courses. I've used both types in various bits of my kit. But since I always use an outboard supply (for non-power amp use) either type has worked just fine.1 point

Thanks, Dan, I grabbed some fancy coffee. The two week shipping time to Moldova can’t be good, but local roasters are not killing it. In other news, just got a clever dripper in the mail and I’m in love. Great balance of good flavor and simplicity.1 point

Thanks guys! That was a fine day that started with a Zoom with the kids (well, 32 and 35!), and finished with an excellent steak dinner. And now - time for bed said Zebedee.1 point

Yes, not cheap, but considering it is a matched quad, approx. $11@. And generally unobtanium. The diyaudio store charges $39 for a similar matched quad of the Linear Systems devices (2 N, 2 P).1 point

I’ve been using fqpf8n80c with my miniature miniaturized (smaller than the group buy version) Golden reference supplies. I also have the negative supply GRHV79 working in there too. I always use the external current regulators now since they are much faster and actually protect the supply. Works great. I’ve got a lot of hours on these.1 point

I agree on many of your impressions on this. I also had a lengthy listen recently in a quiet environment. Took some eye-candy photos as well. The build quality, fit and finish of it all is top notch naturally. The marble case really is nice. Tried lifting it, succeeded just barely. This fucker is 25 kilos! Nice hefty metal remote included in the set. No issues with comfort here, the headphones felt light to me and the headband is HD 800 style but with more padding so no stress on the top of my head. The sound is very articulate but definitely felt a little stiff and sterile to me. I much prefer the warmer, more I guess “euphonic” tone of the SR007 which just makes vocals sound more alive and present. The bass surprised me though, the HE1 has tremendous bass impact and extension. It just begs to be turned up as the large drivers almost vibrate your skull but without a single trace of resonance.1 point

for this design the inputs need to be 600v parts. so no jfets. it would need to be cascaded inputs, and change in the input bias to get that to work1 point
