April 15, 201313 yr Apparently 2 bombs have exploded near the finish line, 12+ bystanders injured (including loss of limbs)..... Holy crap.....
April 15, 201313 yr Not Good. BBC News http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-22160691 + Live Update / Feed http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-22160978
April 15, 201313 yr I just got off the phone with a friend of mine. She's a nurse and was at the marathon. She had left early and was on the train when the bombs went off. She got a bunch of texts from friends asking her if she was alright. She's fine of course, but given that she used to be an ER nurse she's now upset that she wasn't around to help.
April 15, 201313 yr Oof. /r/boston on Redderp has a few more photos: Warning very graphic. Vine clip of the blast. There are scanner reports of an "unexploded incendiary device at JFK Library in UMASS Boston.
April 15, 201313 yr Heard about this when I got home from work. Don't know anyone running this year but my sister in law was at the finish (she works downtown) shortly before this all went down. Thankfully she was well clear by the time that this happened.
April 15, 201313 yr Nephew had finished an hour before, but did hear them... didn't know what it was. Glad your sister is fine Nate!
April 15, 201313 yr Yeezh. My sympathies and condolences to everyone who was hurt by the blast. Was listening to the story my entire way in to work (which is unheard of for me, as I am usually too ADD to listen to the news for 30 minutes straight).
April 15, 201313 yr That's quite the shocking video there...gosh...I hope they can manage to help everyone possible who were unfortunate enough to be hit with this.
April 15, 201313 yr 2 dead so far, one unexploded bomb found. Very ugly non stop video on cnn Edited April 15, 201313 yr by kevin gilmore
April 15, 201313 yr Sad beyond belief, best wishes to the individuals that were hurt and condolences to the families.
April 15, 201313 yr What a fucked up world. I am glad to hear that HC-related people are ok so far and hope that holds true.
April 15, 201313 yr Wow. The explosion happened right outside of the office of a woman I know. She's fine, but severely rattled. Ground-level video of the explostion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhXLgDGh9Ws The New York Post reported that Boston PD said they have a Saudi national in custody, but the Boston Police are refuting that. This is supposedly a photo of a suspect in custody:
April 15, 201313 yr This is probably the work of some domestic "Timothy McVeigh" type piece of shit, but too early to rule out Al Qaeda. My condolences for those who lost loved ones, and the injured. What a senseless tragedy!
April 15, 201313 yr Wow. The explosion happened right outside of the office of a woman I know. She's fine, but severely rattled. Good to hear..
April 15, 201313 yr Just awful! My heart goes out to those who were hurt and their friends and families.
April 15, 201313 yr Author There was an interview with one of the morning radio DJ's, he lives in one of the buildings close to the first explosion. He remarked on the incredible people who were actually running IN to the smoke-filled area to help, while so many others were running out. So far, 8 reported as critical in local hospitals, praying for them and anyone else hurt.....
April 15, 201313 yr Dear God. NSFL imgur album of the explosion aftermath. This thread on reddit is offering some realtime updates. It sounds like the fire @ JFK Library in UMASS Boston is unrelated, but reports are conflicting.
April 15, 201313 yr That's awful. I'm sorry for the victims, but relieved none of you or your relatives have been involved, mates.
April 15, 201313 yr This has just sickened me. Within seconds of finding out I called one of my oldest friends. She ran it two years ago, and has many friends who were there today. They all finished earlier, and are safe. I feel so bad for these people. Has anyone else heard about ball-bearings in the bomb(s)? I heard that from one person, but no news sources yet. **BRENT**
April 15, 201313 yr My folks have run this a few times, and I've been at the finish... It's such an amazing atmosphere. And I had two friends running today, both of whom had already finished and were thankfully away from the finish area, as were others I know who live a few blocks away and were not there at the time. I'm sickened by this, and my thoughts are with those who were injured, killed and their families.
April 15, 201313 yr Brent -- I didn't hear ball bearings, but I did hear glass -- also, the placement lends itself to shrapnel-by-proximity. Obviously a terrorist attack -- the venue was not only chosen for its large collection of people in one place, but the mood-darkening aspect of such an attack at such an event, and the fact that it would almost definitely be documented. The only question remains is who is responsible, domestic/foreign, individual/organization, etc. But very carefully thought out whichever way it goes.
