Today started well, being treated to a by an elderly friend as a late birthday gift. Then later, joined a work colleague to celebrate his wife's birthday at a local eating spot. On parting, quote of the evening, from one of his wife's friends, a fellow aficionado  (unprompted) "Thank you for showing me your bacon porn"  

I work with a woman who is a bit geeky (she builds her own gaming PC's), and always thought she was a fairly strict vegetarian.  No red meats at all, mostly fish and occasionally/rarely poultry.

 

But she just admitted yesterday that she still eats bacon....not TOO often, but loves it.  Also stated it as one of the major food groups.

 

I like her more now.

 

Me, today: Boston's Hunger Brunch this morning/afternoon, hanging a bit in town.  Then tonight, Jonathan Edwards live.  Not a bad day at all.

Todd - Bonnie's a vegetarian, too, but she's indulges in the occasional bacon as well. Just bacon's awesome power, I guess.

Not eating red meat doesn't make you a vegetarian, it just means you haven't ever had a good steak.

 

 

As for me, I've been down all weekend with the flu.  What a joy that's been.

True, Dan.  She doesn't call herself a "real" vegetarian, I'm sure there is a title for what she does (bacon included).

I spent two hours chasing calves through deep snow yesterday, as they kept breaking through different parts of the fence as I fixed the parts they had broken through previously. I'm going to take a T-bone out of the freezer today, methinks.

Just kicked the respiratory physiology test's ass. And then class this afternoon got cancelled. Great start to the day.

Bought my plane tickets to France. Never been there before.

 

Though I will visit Paris, most of my time will be spent in Bordeaux as I have friends there, so no hotel fees!

Last week I ordered a Marantz SR5007 from East Coast TVs. My first mistake was not doing some more research into the company and blindly ordering from them. I thought I got a good deal on a discontinued product. The next day I got a call from a sales rep saying they were out of stock but he'd gladly get me a price on a 5008 on Monday.

 

Monday I got no response. This morning I still hadn't gotten anything so I sent out an email. Got back from class and I still didn't have anything so I tried calling. While I spent 10 minutes on hold, I started doing some research and these guys run some shady deals and they definitely aren't authorized sellers of any of their stock. Also their discount they advertise is only for paying in cash, check or money order. When I finally got a hold of the guy, I just cancelled the order. Went with a factory refurbished model from a more reputable seller for a bit more money.

 

tl;dr don't buy from East Coast TVs

Gray market right? i dont know if the Crutchfield store still has an open box section, i used to always see some high-end Marantz there that was an online return, just gathering dust and having the price reduced because nobody local was going to buy it

Got my 2013 taxes ready for filing on Friday. Worked in multiple states last year and so it was a little harder to navigate inputting my W2 information into Turbo Tax. Their customer service has no fucking clue what they're doing and after 45 minutes on the phone with 2 disconnects, I said fuck it and figured it out myself in under 5 minutes. Dumb fucks.

Took a long lunch break today and went to the Clanwilliam General Store with my wife and four year-old (his older brother was in school).  Clanwilliam has a population of probably 75 people on a good day, but somehow the general store has managed to survive since as far back as I can remember (it was built in the 1920s).  Very limited groceries, hardware, and a post office, with a 2-table (grab a seat wherever you can find one) restaurant/coffee shop in the back.  Once every two weeks a barber comes over from a neighbouring town and rents a chair in a back room.  My kid likes getting his hair cut there more than TV, video games, and sugar combined.

Cool.  I love small towns and their general stores.  Does it have the obligatory dog to greet you when you come in?
