I have a friend who asked me a headphone question that I couldn't answer. He has a pair of Ety ER4P and recently got shocked in the ear while wearing them (he was walking and was wearing a fleece if that is relevant). I haven't ever experienced this myself. Is this not abnormal or should he contact Etymotic about it? Sounds painful.

  4. Well, After upgrading my Denon 3910 with the SACDmod + adding few extra blackgates around the dac for good measure, and recabling my K701s with mogami quad, now my system is quite a bit brighter, mostly due to the recable. 909 thought something was off with the recabled K701s which are now fatiguing. Iron_Dreamer and I also thought the high freqs sounded fatiguing when listening to Tylls recabled (cardas) K701s at the So Cal meet. I dismissed it as bad cable (cardas), but now that my K701s have the same problem with the mogami, I think AKG used the cheap-ass wire they did, to tame the highs and cover up the deficiency in that area. Now my tinnitus is flairing…

Guys, looking to sell my MS1 and use the money to buy new phone. Which is better ? AD2k or W5k ? And would the 30-40% diff between AD2k and W5k justifiable ? I know I can always count on the opinion of the people in this forum......Appreciate any advise.....

  8. No, I didn't get a pair of L3Ks or W5Ks. But I had been thinking about downsizing my office rig for a while. Having the dedicated DAC, Lunchbox and HD-600s seemed to be a little much. Lately I haven't been using them much at all, and figure it was time for a change when I came across a pair of ATH-EW9s for sale over on Head-Fi. Sure it's still overkill for clip-ons, but first impressions are pretty positive, with the mids especially sounding pretty sweet. They seem to fit my ears well and lock into a position that results in more bass than I was expecting. And needless to say, they look great... The color of the cherry is very deep, and depsite being used, the finish is i…

http://www.akg.com/personal/powerslave,id,15,nodeid,15,_language,EN.html Looks like they've refreshed their studio line of headphones. My first "big boy" headphones was the K271 S. I still have a soft spot for it. Might be interesting to hear the new K 272 HD. As far as closed headphones go, the K271 S was pretty darn good for the $150-200 price tag.

I'm pretty much a novice when it comes to headphones. I usually walk around with my apple ear buds, mainly because I don't care if they break. I'm ready to upgrade, but don't want to spend more than $100. I'm looking for either On-Ear, or Over-Ear headphones. I listen to a wide variety of music, from Acoustic Folk to Classical to Pop/Rock to EDM. Right now, I'm looking at either the Noontec Hammo which are on Amazon for $65, or the Sony MDR-ZX600 which are $70. Any thoughts on either of these 2 would be great, or if you can recommend some others that you think would be better. Mainly used with my iPhone or iMac. Thanks

I like my HF-1. Running balanced has given them some additional smoothness and horizontal extension. But I'm not in love with them. What do you folks think about the move to the RS-2 or RS-1? Would you consider those a significant step up?

I wondering if anybody has heard the MS1i. The original ms1 was pretty good, any improvement may make it the best 100 dollar headphone available.

  14. Started by Takashi,

So a while back even before I got my amp I was excited to own my new headphones and wanted to show them to a friend of mine. He comes over and puts on a song in my itunes, quickly finds the equalizer, turns the Pre-amp setting in iTunes ALL THE WAY up, takes the headphones off and quickly declares that they suck. Being a nice fellow, I just said ok and shrugged it off. My question to you is where does this kind of ignorance spawn from? How can someone be so stupid to assess sound quality when iTunes is clearly distorting it. Also he was using a 128kbps quality audio that he gave me, and I told him before hand that the quality will suck. GrRrRRRRRrRRRrRR Console m…

  15. Started by purrin,

So where to start... I didn't want to post anything until I actually got my hands on at least a few of the new "un-veiled" LCD3s. I've heard three of these new ones and measured two so far. I suspect these new LCD3s don't quite sound the same as the "un-veiled" ones heard at CanJam, because they depart from the Audeze house sound quite a bit. The two pairs I've measured have excellent driver matching, and they even match each other quite well too. This would be a first for Audeze (at least from the cans that I've heard myself.) BTW, I'm not going to bore anyone with graphs - you guys know where to get them - or you can just ask. On that topic, I would like to see Audez…

  16. They say it's a replacement plan that covers accidental damage so if I were to drop them and they don't work or break I'm covered which is what I want..But I normally take good care of my stuff and really don't see myself ever dropping them. What do you guys think? I think it will cost anywhere from $14.99 to $29.99

  19. So it's time for me to build a new home rig. I haven't been keeping up with the new stuff much. I stopped looking at gear around when the HD800 was FotM. I've been enjoying my ES3X for quite some time now but have been missing having proper cans. My budget is around $3k for cans and an amp. I might be able to stretch it to $4k, but would really prefer to keep it down. I will probably be building a DAC over the winter/spring. DIY isn't out of the question as I'm not in a RUSH to have a setup. (sooner the better though ) I will mostly listen to classical and folk when it's not just background noise. So as far as options I was thinking of these: HD800 or…

  21. Now it shouldn't come as a massive shock to anybody but I'm not much of a SR-009 fan. From day 1 they always sounded messed up to me and the BK and S didn't really make it any better, even a bit worse with the 009S. To this day I have only one 009BK (as it is a limited edition) in my collection and one regular 009 that showed up here randomly and was a stark improvement over all the other sets I've owned. No idea why those sound different but better not mess with them. Now the plan was always to do something with the 009's to improve them but there was always something better to do. Well with surgery pending a couple of months ago, I finally had time to do some…

I got home from work to find a box from the UK on my desk. Yippie! I hooked up the pig tail to my amps speaker taps, and plugged the 4 pin socket of the K1000 into that. Turned on my Beta22 and no sound. Hmmm let's see now, the amp seems to be working fine, the speaker adapter is hooked up right, what's missing? Oh yeah, maybe it's that thing that spins CDs that I just shipped out yesterday! My phono stage still has hum issues with my SUT, and the temporary phono stage I was using went tits up. So maybe selling my CD transport would have been better delayed a week or so. Well the new CDP is due to arrive Saturday. It's gonna be an eternity.
