  1. We survived that in the mid 70's, and got to our 39th wedding anniversary yesterday.

  2. Job interview next Wednesday. Good look? That was me from early May. 10 pounds lighter, now, but everything still fits about the same (I guess I've lost 20 pounds in the belly, but gained 10 pounds of muscle in the chest from boxing). I figure a three piece suit, boots, and a knit tie is too much, but It's me: I'm probably too much regardless.

  3. Here's a few of the Amplifer Case interior. Signal input is not final. Assembled with a TDK 4CP-2500 volume control from s recent GB. The ALPS RK50 is waiting for me have a machine shop make me an adapter plate (already designed). Wire from the PCBs to the STAX jack is not final (too short). Longer solid silver/gold teflon wire on order. Also, to do: devise a permanent Star/Chassis Ground connection. A better solution is needed, The photo of with the top plate installed is from an earlier trial fitting. Shown with Svetlana Winged C EL-34 (2000 vintage). Even on a short listen, they sounded like "Meh...." Now up and running with a matched quad of JJ 6CA7s. Highly preferred, this amp sings now. Thanks for the tip Whitigir! Also to note, in the umbilical with the heater wires tightly twisted and all the other wires scramble wound, there is zero, zip, nada, NO hum. Deathly quiet.

  4. ¡Gracias amigos! Thank you very much. I had a great day. First step in the right direction was getting a couple of days off work so no early bird wake up, no duties and less worries. There were candles, cumpleaños feliz singing, good wines and tasty malt spirits, well wishes and good company. It's kind of fun how year after year the meaning of these dates keeps changing. Today there are more celebrations scheduled, and tomorrow too. Kind of birthday marathon

  6. In that case, time to try different butters and pop tart combos, for science. Today we switch the butter to smjör (for science). Tastes less buttery than the whole foods butter but I need to eat one more to confirm

  7. Lucky that birgir does not have a basement, otherwise the collection would be much bigger and heavier. I happen to know someone with this problem. however he does cheat, no way he can put his car in the garage. last I knew there were several hundred pounds of transformers where the car should be.

  8. Some photos of what to me is one of the best looking watches, the JLC Jubilee 1833, and with a case thickness of 4.05mm must be one of the thinnest in the world.

  9. Ahhh but the garage is all cleared up now. The pallet of transformers has been all squared away and now it's filled with painting stuff as I'm working on the exterior of the house. That's why I'm offering this service... Given the rave reviews out there of this garbage, do these reviewers actually listen or just random generate some verbal diarrhea?

  14. Now that's a helpful review. I can now walk away without any curiosity to try their products. And you managed that in 14 words. I'd like to see John Atkinson do that!

  17. So all the old stuff about these is buried in the Stax thread but since I just bought a lightly used set of KS-M3 and M10 it was perhaps time to give them their own thread. So I owned both the H1 and H2...and both were terrible. Truly awful but there are still people out there claiming the H3's are really good so...I was curious. I got the combo at a nice enough price so why not. Kevin thinks I'm nuts for buying a third one of these but hey... I guess he's right. The amp will await inspection but I connected the phones to the Carbon CC for a listen. Ok...a small spoiler here...they aren't good. Like at all and more of a shame on other electrostatics... So difference compared to the H1 and H2 was pretty major though both were cheaply made. That continues here but the dual arc setup does work better than the single arc of the H2. The earcups are also much nicer from the outside but we'll see how they are inside when I open them up. The earpads are the same protein crap as the other ones and really one of the major reasons these sound so bad. Also as a bonus, both drivers have dust or some debris inside of them so squeal quite a bit. As for the sound...holy bass Batman!! It sounds a bit like a cheap boombox, it's all midbass with no depth and strangles everything else. The highs are also piercing and very fatiguing while the midrange is drowned out by the midbass. So a hollow bright sound signature which puts electrostatics to shame. I pulled out a L300 to compare and even though I don't really like the L series, they are just miles ahead. They may sound a bit bland and uninvolving but at least they are mostly neutral. This King Sound is just bad...electrostatic or not. I'll update later when I have time to open them up.

  23. Gotcha. It's a good looking watch. I don't mind a bit more thickness in a sports watch as long as it's not crazy. I'd have to drive each of them to give you a hard time about one vs the other. If I did that I suspect I'd be quite a bit poorer... HS

  26. Yesterday I discovered this cd in a thrift store. I admit I don´t like Whitesnake but I was curious. Pretty interesting versions of some Purple songs, for example, "Soldier of Fortune" or "Stormbringer".

  37. I think joehpj may have more. That's where I got mine. Mine's up and running and doing long listening tests, finally enjoyable. Details to finish, along with getting the left channel opt servo to work. Sounds glorious. Thanks to Kevin and Spritzer. These electrostatic amps that Kevin designs and Birgir fine tunes are just an incredible learning resource. They are damn near fool proof and bullet proof. And drive my SR-009'with TOTL SQ. Also, kudos to all the experienced members here on Head-Case for the elevated discussion. Now back to my listening. Nanci Griffith is singing to me in my living room.
