November 6, 201312 yr Get the fucking surgery and get this thing healed properly. I let my screwed up wrist go for 9-10 months before getting surgery while in law school and initially uninsured (the initial urgent care assessment failed to find any clear issues because they are too small to see on x-ray in the beginning) and I have lived with the consequences ever since. Over 20 years later, I recently had another surgery to try to cap the damage. Don't dawdle. Get it fixed.
November 6, 201312 yr Justin... I've found that when Al yells at you to do something, you should do it. **BRENT**
November 6, 201312 yr Justin, I'm with Al that you should get it fixed ASAP. Seems like the plate is the standard practice in the peloton and has really good success: http://velonews.competitor.com/2011/07/news/training-center-what-cyclists-should-do-when-they-break-their-collarbone_186486 http://www.shoulderdoc.co.uk/article.asp?article=1614 I'd personally go with what works not some new fancy thing. I'm still fighing a cold from last week but I'm trying to decide what I'm doing with regards to going for a ride on Friday for my birthday as I'm likely not going to be able to get out on my birthday itself. Thinking about doing this: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/3634000 The other option is to take the day off and ride from home, though it's not as pretty or hilly as around my work. Edit: I pick staying home on Friday. Should be fun. Edited November 6, 201312 yr by Dreadhead
November 6, 201312 yr If it were me, I would go with the more standard, tried and true procedure and be wary of the guy who invented the new procedure advising you get the procedure. In other words, just listen to Al, we all do in the end. Best of luck with whatever you end up doing. Heal fast, we need you for Team Mudder.
November 6, 201312 yr ^This! I would be wary of the guy who wants you to get the new thing that he invented. Listen to Al!
November 7, 201312 yr Yeah that was my point that the guys with the careers riding on getting it fixed as fast as possible pick plates.
November 7, 201312 yr http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPfGvM2T-pc Or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixrmplBtC5E click the spoilers if you want to see surgery porn The "clavicle nail procedure" looks like an easy choice to me.
November 7, 201312 yr its more like the clavicle nail i think edit: ah i see your video was the actual surgery of the same product here's an animated video of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JXhsZ7yLUQ Edited November 7, 201312 yr by justin
November 7, 201312 yr Seems like the outcomes are statistically identical: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3291769/ I would pick one and do it ASAP.
November 7, 201312 yr Surgery tmrw. I went with the rod guy as he has a lot more experience. He will use the rod unless he feels my bone canal is too narrow which can be the case in younger people. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Edited November 7, 201312 yr by justin
November 8, 201312 yr Yuck. I'm glad I never watched any videos before I got my hip surgery. Double no shit! Good luck Justin!
