Thanks to the Craigslist ad Collin posted I got a super deal on a pair of HE60's that I couldn't pass up. Met up with the guy locally and the transaction went super smooth. It was interesting, I asked him why he wanted to sell them, and he said that he has a pair of Stax Lambdas (didn't ask what model) and that his older brother whom he got this HE60 from actually owns 3 more. So he had 4 HE60s at one point! When he said this I immediately wondered how many HE60s were made in the first place. Poor sap said he never heard the HE60 from any other amp other than the HEV70. I just got a pair of these. I'm not real familiar with everything that's out there in the sub-$200 range, so I can't comment on the "are they the best $200 closed back phones ever" business. But I think they're pretty good. I was looking for not-too-expensive closed back cans for my portable. Basically, they're right at home there. They do everything pretty well. My RSA Tomahawk drives 'em with ease. They're not over bright (My ears. I'm allergic to bright, so I assume that means they're really not bright. But you never know.) Well, this document would at least seem to suggest that some of the rumors that I have been hearing over the past 6 months are true. From what I've heard the rumored street price in the US is ~$1000. There's also a thread on Head-Fi about this, but I don't think there's much in the way of additional information there, just a couple of new pictures.

I am new in STAX but already fall in love with it after a few audition. Now I like to spend about US$ 500 - 600, yeah it is not enough to get the best Stax, but maybe you guys here can help me to decide what to chose with that amount that your experience has the best in sound quality. My interest is a light jazz and some classic music and maybe some pop music too. I do own a Qinpu A-6000 Hybrid amplifier, that might enough to drive an energizer. Any advice are wellcome, I like to hear your comments, thanks before.

Which is easier to listen to at a low volume?

Guys, just notice today that my HF-2 emits a buzzing sound when the notes hit a mid note. Like when the piano note hits, the driver buzz. Anyone experience this before ? Is there a way to fix this or should send to Grado for repair ? I hate sending it cause I live in the other part of the world.....but if push comes to shove...... Thanks

Hi all. I am looking at purchasing better headphones to justify purchasing the Bryston DAC, which i purchased to justify purchasing Audioquest Cheetah cables... I currently own 650, 595, 701 and shure 530. My amps are Cayin HA1 and BCL. I am currently loving the K701 with the Cayin amp. I listened to the Shure 530's the other day with BCL amp and came to a realisation that they have superior bass (low and tight) and midrange detail than anything else, whilst the 701 have the top end and uppermidrange detail. Still looking for my perfect DAC......then stumbled to this headphones : Beyer DT48E.......everyone said its perfect for guitar, piano and vocal. I wondering if anybody has heard the MS1i. The original ms1 was pretty good, any improvement may make it the best 100 dollar headphone available.

A W10Ltd was offered in trade for my RS-1 at the other site. Have not found much info on this phone in the hour or so I looked. I'll research more later. His description "these are the limited edition woodies, released after the original w10vtg. it's a different sounding beast, cleaner and more focused than the vintage. bought them used here in excellent condition with original cardboard box. Wonder if anyone would care to comment on their interpretation of the sound ... especially as it relates to the W5000 or AD2000, or even compared to the RS-1.

I pulled this from the other site. I would surely protect my daughter from all you ortho weirdos, but nonetheless these pretty wood boxes may be of interest to you. A little pricy for a donor frame, maybe, but zebras died to make these headphones, and if anyone can fill them with felt, y'all can.

Is there a list of all headphones that have the HD580/600/650 style connectors? I know it's bass-ackwards, but I kind of wouldn't mind being able to browse said list. I can't seem to find my HD250-II's anywhere, and I think it's the only one I have left of that style. Guys, I may be in the market for some headphones. Knowing next to nothing about what's out there, I could use suggestions. Basically, I own two sets of phones. Etymotic 4p's that I bought in 2001 or 2002, and RS-1's I bought in 2003. I use the ety's when I am on airplanes, and that's about it. They are kind of OK, but the banging cord is too annoying. Hi, I'm looking for some IEM recommendations. My current IEMs (that I really like) are Etymotic ER4S. I really enjoy them for many types of music, but they're not amazing for all types of rock. I think they do Radiohead very well, but Tool, or Children of Bodom? Not so much. So a while back even before I got my amp I was excited to own my new headphones and wanted to show them to a friend of mine. He comes over and puts on a song in my itunes, quickly finds the equalizer, turns the Pre-amp setting in iTunes ALL THE WAY up, takes the headphones off and quickly declares that they suck. Being a nice fellow, I just said ok and shrugged it off. My question to you is where does this kind of ignorance spawn from? How can someone be so stupid to assess sound quality when iTunes is clearly distorting it.
