Grok Headphones in Fullness

  1. Started by shellylh,

Tyll seems to like them a whole lot. http://www.innerfidelity.com/content/i-love-these-headphonesthe-nad-viso-hp50 Color me interested. I suppose nobody else around here has heard them though. Some people say that are more open and brighter than the Momentum which would be nice.

  2. I wonder if these headphones can do well with Japanese music. Ultrasone PRO750 & ED.9 Fail. Denon Marklblabla Fail. Sennheiser HD600 & HD650 Epic Fail. Grado RS-1 Fail. Audio-Technica W5000 & AD2000 Fail. AKG K701 Fail. Alessandro MS-Pro Epic Fail. Etymotic ER4S Pass.

I just picked up a pair of these and would be interested in hearing from fans/owners here. They have a very lush sound but I'm finding them a bit muffled at the frequency extremes compared to RS1s and balanced HD650s. I'd be grateful for any suggestions on amping these (I have a Headroom balanced desktop amp) that might clear up the congestion, since I'd really like to like these phones even more. But maybe that's just how these vintage phones sound? Source is the HR's built-in DAC and a Primare CDP. thanks and best, k

  4. Started by Icarium,

Got mine in yesterday. Listened to them out of the Yamamoto... okay... so-so. Definitely higher resolution than the w5000s with much better imaging/soundstage. Bass is... well interesting. More prominent than in the w5000s and comes at you from an interesting angle (Not bad, or really even good. But interesting and different. Probably due to the massive soundstage). That was sourced with the EMU 0404 usb, i.e. my work rig. Took them home and sourced it with my Wavelength DAC and my Esoteric and powered with my SS-1. Okay pretty good as well. Definitely close to or equally detailed as the qualias. Better mids. A bit honky in the upper midrange right where it stops being…

  7. So I bought a pair of Edition 9s. I've heard nothing but bad things about these cans from folks whose ears I trust, and nothing but good things from those with whom I don't seem to share any of the same sonic preferences, the sole exception being MaLoS, who I've spoken with about the W5000, which we both like. But when I saw a pair pop up for sale at a price I knew I could flip it for, my curiousity got the best of me, and I hit the paypal button. I was going to keep the purchase secret while I had a chance to do some more critical listening, but I figured jpak's spies would find out soon enough and call me out as a closet Ultrasone lover. I'm at work right now, but w…

I was wondering how headphone users like their bass impact. I.e how much you feel when a bass note is played.

hi, i'm kind of an amateur at this, though i have been lurking for quite some time. i'm looking for closed cans that i can use in public places. up until now i've used iem's, but they get uncomfortable and my ears get all stuffed up wearing them for long periods of time. so i'm thinking closed are the way to go with me. another thing i'm looking for is a warm, non-fatiguing sound! i have ety er-6i, and koss ksc-75, and while i appreciate the detail and neutrality they give, they are both somewhat fatiguing. so i'm looking for phones that i can wear for a long period of time without getting fatigued...and i'm thinking a warm sound would be good for that. yester…

Until I get my isolation booth set up in my house (no, it's not a joke), I need a set of headphones that block out the neighbors. If I hear "You cheat on me again and I'll knock your fucking teeth out!" interrupt Beethoven's 9th one more time, I think I'll scream What would you guys say is the best set of closed cans? I'd prefer balanced and am definitely open to mods.

Y'all, I picked up a set of one owner K400 on a whim recently and am enjoying them a lot, at least as a change to the STAX. Having otherwise been a STAX owner exclusively for 25 years, what else is out there new that has a similar sound to the K400 and is say <$US400 (in the US)? I have a need for another set of dynamics. I'll go out and listen first to as many of the suggestions as I can. Amps will be Dynalo's. Cheers

  16. Hey yall im new to this forum but i have started to become and audiophile through the years (ever since i started listening to music (im 17 now) and i already own a pair of etymotyc reaserch ER-6i's and i really enjoy them for on the go. but i would like something for home, ive been looking through headphone.com but idk what to get im looking for a nice true bass, crisp mids, decent highs, can be noise cancelling but doesnt have to be. and all under 200$ (250$ okay but pushing it) also i have looked at some desktop/portable amps for my computer and ipod you can give suggestions for this but keep it around 150$(as i do not have a stereo system) any ideas??

Does anyone have experience with balanced RS-1's? What improvements have you heard vs single-ended rs-1's?

New headphones: do want. Problems: I'm still studying Java at UW. It comsumes about 95% of my free time so regular headphone listening just doesn't happen unless I get spare time at work, which is also rare. I'll be done in June, though. I'm thinking of three possibilities: ATH-ESW9 Good: Good form factor for work, seem to respond reasonably well to amps. Bad: Would I use them outside of work? RS2i Good: Enjoyed these when hearing the RS2 a year or so back. Would be a nice 32ohm phone for use with the Ventus or future suitable amps. Might be nice to have for a work rig, albeit maybe a little overkill. Bad: Maybe a little pricy for leaving at work…

  19. To the best of my knowledge, first hand and from other fellow users, it seems that some headphones benefit more from going into a balance configuration than others. I thought it could be helpfull to have a thread where we can cross-reference personal experience with cans that you have had the chance to seriously evaluate in single ended mode and also in balanced mode. The ease of cable switching in the Sennheiser makes them an ideal cable rolling headphone. Should we bother to try to balance a specific headphone? This is were your input becomes valuable. I just asked whether it makes a similar difference in sound to balace the HD600 vs balance HD650. From the res…

These models currently interest me for a future purchase, especially the MS-Pro. If anyone has anything to say about these, input is appreciated. Bonus points if you reference the HD580/600, K501, or MS-2.

Hi everyone, That surely has been awhile (again)! I wanted to say hi and ask a question since I'm browsing the boards a little again (probably not for long). I hope you're all doing fine! I still see quite a bit of familiar names around here, the only person I've missed so far is Vicky. As some of you have seen over at the other side I'm currently in the process of selling my ED9s, yes the time has finally come! Seeing that I started out with the 750s and (finally) noticing a lot of bad things happening) I felt at the time the ED9s were a great step up. It actually had something that could go for a midrange. Add more speed detail etc to the mix and I thought it w…

Hi Everyone I need everyone's opinions. Right now I am considering the sony Qualia 010 and saw one popped up for sale on Head-Fi.org: Headphones, iPod earphones, portable audio, MP3 players, high-end audio . However, I really dont know how much the headphone is worth nowadays because it is really rarely appeared on the used market. The trick is that the owner also wants to sell his M size headband . Any opinions? Many thanks
