January 26, 201511 yr Here we go... woke up this morning to temps in the low single digits. The wind hasn't started yet but is predicted to be 15-25mph with gusts over 40 by the end of the day. Oh, and there's this.
January 26, 201511 yr Ah-yup.....I'm in the same weather "band" as Nate.... My son is quite happy for a snow day Tuesday...apparently it's when the Destiny servers reset something....
January 26, 201511 yr Author I'm just hoping we don't lose power for too long with an infant and all.
January 26, 201511 yr I'll be getting gas for the generator this afternoon for sure. I'm also strongly considering grabbing a camp stove on the way home. Been meaning to for a while and this might be the perfect excuse. Even with the generator we can't run the stove (just microwave) and having a usable cooktop, even if it was in the garage, would be nice.
January 26, 201511 yr A camp stove would have more uses but we have a single electric burner and there are also double-burner types. That way it is in the kitchen and safe. Just an idea. Stay warm and dry and safe, everyone.
January 26, 201511 yr I started & setup the snowblower yesterday,Picked up some gas for the generator today.I should have started it yesterday ,but I should be ok. It looks like its going to be a bad one.
January 26, 201511 yr Damn! Looks fierce, stay safe you people. I would strongly recommend that you do not try to move any door mats in those 40 mph winds, they can wreck your pedicure for sure, take it from me. Nate, ever considered a propane BBQ? Edited January 26, 201511 yr by Augsburger
January 26, 201511 yr Good luck to those of you in the blizzards path, we were spared only had 3-5" in the Pittsburgh area today.
January 26, 201511 yr We went out and bought emergency provisions yesterday which included some Starbucks double shots, and a bag of caramel corn. Also, conveniently enough, the old gas boiler would have run just fine with the power out. But because millivolt systems no longer meet code, the new boiler won't. Worst upgrade ever. Last year, UConn canceled classes at the mere hint that snow might be coming. This year, nothing yet.
January 27, 201511 yr This is a news story even in the UK - so it looks like a big one. Stay safe if you are in the path of the blizzard coming in.
January 27, 201511 yr Good luck with Snowmageddon, folks. Not a flake around our parts yet this winter. Kids disappointed, me not so much.
January 27, 201511 yr Hard to say how much we got overnight because of the wind but I'd say somewhere in the neighborhood of 12" and it's still raging outside. Pictures don't do it justice and sadly, the GoPro didn't capture anything in timelapse mode last night. The storm didn't really get cranked up until after 2AM from what I can tell and that's when the battery went tits up. I'll see if I can get it setup today with a aux battery to help.
January 27, 201511 yr . o O we should rename this thread "Snow: We're Fucked" I vote "We're SnOw Fucked" Edit: And good luck and stay safe everyone. Maybe an inch but probably less around here. Edited January 27, 201511 yr by Dreadhead
January 27, 201511 yr Maybe a little over a foot right now, still coming down steady here too. It's all about the drifts though.....
January 27, 201511 yr News just said we have 15" here. What's really impressive is the wind. Fingers crossed we don't lose power!
January 27, 201511 yr Author Maybe a little over a foot right now, still coming down steady here too. It's all about the drifts though..... IMG_0148.JPG Yeah, I hate the damn drifts. We live on end of a cul-de-sac and we end up with much larger snow drifts than everyone else on the street (and everyone's dead leaves in autumn). EDIT - It's another snow day for my work/school tomorrow. I'm a little surprised since the district always drags their feet about snow days. Edited January 27, 201511 yr by Salt Peanuts
January 27, 201511 yr Doesn't look wet from the pic, Todd, so I hope it's light stuff, and no one loses power. Sure is pretty.
