July 19, 201213 yr Took my car in for standard service (oil, ATF, radiator fluid), they got some air in and ended up taking several hours. They still haven't fixed it, so going back tomorrow. Found out my senior citizen cat is beginning to show signs of kidney failure. Really not looking forward to her leaving me just yet. On the bright side, I assumed it was already the case (she drinks and pees a lot), and assumed there was nothing that I could do about it, but he gave me a couple of prescription diets that are easier on the kidneys, so...there ya go. Should be able to keep her around for a couple more years. Stumbled on a really nice brick oven pizza with beer taps (23 of them! All very geeky) for dinner. They had Left Hand Milk Stout Nitro! I haven't even seen that in bottle form yet! Nice end to a really crappy day.
July 19, 201213 yr First bid on the gas problem, not good news: ~$11,000 and it will take 3-5 days. They basically want to run all new gas pipes from the meter in the back yard to all the appliances. The other problem is that they need to also tear up the deck because we have very little space in our back yard that doesn't have a deck or tree. Didn't really like that deck (and the wood is rotting a bit anyway) but it does keep our entire backyard from becoming a jungle. We knew the bid would be high (since this place is a well known good but expensive plumbing company in the neighborhood) but I was not expecting quite that high. We're going to get at least one more bid to compare it to. Time for the gym so I can get a warm shower and then a drink. Edit: Could have bought a really nice bike + SR-009 for that cost. It would be nice if Homeowner's insurance would cover something like this.

Our cat's blood urea nitrogen was normal but the creatinine level was a little high.
July 19, 201213 yr My Mom's cat has been on Science Diet KD for about 4 years now. It made a huge difference.

July 19, 201213 yr The problem is that it is in the gas lines not water lines... there is water in the lines but it is not running water or leaking out of the lines. Also, it is somewhere in our back yard under the ground so they would have to dig up the whole back yard. They also claim that the city won't let them fix old corroded gas pipes (our house is from 1940) which I believe. I think the main problem is that there may more than one point where they might be corrosion. There are also spots under the house which may be old an causing problems. Gas is something that is dangerous enough that I am willing to err on the safe side.

July 19, 201213 yr That's awful Shelly. I can't help wondering how the hell did the water get into the gas pipes without the gas escaping outside and producing a nice fire or explosion. Hopefully you can find a cheaper alternative. Good luck!

Should be able to keep her around for a couple more years. Our kitty (Bolivia in ) was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney disease last October. The vet gave her a few days, and we called a hospice vet and made an appointment for him to come over. We started syringe feeding her (she had stopped eating) and giving her sub q fluids everyday. She started perking up immediately, and after twice daily syringe feedings, by December she started eating on her own. She won't eat kidney food on her own, but she did start eating 3 cans of Fancy Feast per day and by April had put back on almost all the weight she lost. At that point, she stopped eating the wet food, and will only eat Science Diet dry now. But she eats a bunch of it, so long as we give her small doses of cyproheptadine, femotadine, and ondansetron twice a day. We also still do 200mL of fluids everyday, but her condition has been upgraded (downgraded?) to stage 2. If you are not familiar, this website is invaluable http://www.felinecrf.org/
July 19, 201213 yr Shelly- that so totally blows. In Florida we live in fear of roofs and sea walls. A sympathetic chill goes down my spine just thinking about it. It's always just when things are starting to go smoothly, too. Way to go Doug. We managed kidney disease with Toots for a couple years. It's amazing what some sub q fluids can do Dusty hang in there.
