Grok Headphones in Fullness

  1. Started by mzisman4,

Up until about 30 minutes ago, I was set on picking up a pair of Denon AH-D2000 (based on head-fi reviews). But after reading 10+ pages of reasons not to get them I am back at square one. I have never purchased a pair of 'high end' headphones and unfortunately, have no means of demoing them. Therefore I am relying on your opinons and experiences to make up my mind. I do not have an amp but am planning to pick up an ibasso boa when I save up enough cash. I currently have about $300 but would like to set aside about $75 to start an 'amp savings'. I will however, dig into that if needed to get a better pair of cans. The only headphones I know are in this range are the…

FYI - There is a guy on Audiogon from Germany auctioning Ultrasone Edition 7's, Sony MDR 10's, and selling an HE90/HEV90 with two sets of HE90's available. Price is a subjective thing, so I won't comment, but they are available. I can't pass judgment, I bought an extra Aristeaus in a package deal to get my Omega's and HE 90's. I tried to pimp my sister out, but the guy just wanted the cash. Must be all that back hair............

  3. Started by deepak,

I've only had them since this morning. But so far I'm really digging the sound Some initial impressions. Very balanced sound with exceptional tonality. The first thing I noticed is how forward the sound signature is (similar to the K1000). The soundstage isn't as large as the Omega 2 MK1. The Omega 2 has this uncanny ability to throw its voice like a ventriloquist projecting sounds outside the dimensions of the earspeaker. The Koss can't quite do that. The Koss have very, very nice midbass and impact making them fun to listen to with rock. They have a hint of that deep bass that is crying to come out, but doesn't extend that far. Mids and highs are very well b…

  4. I'm wondering if i should look up this deal Grado sr60 / sr80 headphones for ipod zune audiophile mp3 music player, and what i might look for to find out which Grado they are. It's been 3 years since i last heard and SR60, so it's not like i would be able to immediately compare.

Anyone take an successful steps to minimize the creaky sounds the W5000's unusual body/fit produces? They're starting to get on my nerves.

Fed up with the pod, I dissected them last night. I just used the ibud cable to make things simple. Sorry for the crappy pics, I'm too lazy to get my rebel.

  8. Started by diebenkorn,

After listening to 340's for about 30 minutes the top part of my right ear begins to hurt then it becomes unbearable, I also feel the clamp is too strong on my head. I changed the elastics that did not help, I took off the plastic part and just hooked the elastics over the part of plastic used to go over and that did not really work. These have the velour pads and I have a big noggin. I am probably going to try different pads but wondered if any one had any suggestions before going this route or should I just cut the tops of my ears off?

  9. Started by spritzer,

Since this post would get lost in the ever growing Stax thread I'll post it here. If you damage your expensive phones doing this it's your own fault so don't come running to me. Be very careful with any tools this close to the drivers as one slip can destroy them. You have been warned!!! All you need to do this mod is some blutack, a screwdriver and the patience of a saint to get the damn pads on again. First job if to remove the earpads by simply pulling onto the top edge and they come off. Also remove the spring underneath as it will only be in the way. Simply pull it out of the rubber grommet. Now there is a black plate with 4 screws holding it to the phones togeth…

Now available at HeadRoom: http://www.headphone.com/products/headphones/earpad/beyerdynamic-dt-235-black.php I never heard the 231, but I did like the 250-250. I'll be interested to read some impressions as this could be a nice bang-for-the-buck or gift can.

Going to post this here and not even bother with the other place. So I have wanted a pair of snake wood Darths for some time now. I figured I would like how they sound seeing as I like my '03 880s and how much they are hyped at the other place. So when a pair showed up at half price in the for sale section I jumped on them. I received them today. Really? People really like these? I know they were going to be a bit bass heavy but not bass bloated. The low end totally ruins any chance they have of sounding good. Or okay for that matter. Makes me really question all the people that talk them up as being a great sounding headphone. No offense if your reading this and …

  13. Started by slwiser,

I will ask this here... Where is the best place to purchase these. Best price with warranty or just the best price. Are these so reliable that you need not concern yourself with the warranty? As an alternative I am thinking about the "Stax srm-t1w stax tube amp/headphones" what price would be reasonable for this set? Thanks

Hey guys, At the last meet, I really enjoyed the k340's. They sounded great out of various setups, especially the zana. The bass was quite full and deep, I personally did not hear any issues or lack of. It was a headphile modded version though. I would really love to pick up a set. I have no idea though what I should be looking for. I have read about different versions. There seems to be an assortment of mods that can be done to improve performance, which I haven't quite grasped on. Ideally I would love to pick up a used set modded by a reputable user, just need to know what to look for and/or what questions I should be asking. Thanks guys.

  18. So I went down to Kingsound in Mongkok - Hong Kong (http://www.headphonehk.com/, I have no affiliation, but highly recommended - I've purchased a lot of stuff over the years from them), to pick up some mundane cables as I'm re-dabbling with portable audio. I see a small group there so I saunter over, looks like some friendly locals having some sort of mini-meet at the store!. Holy shit, I see a R10...I've never seen or heard one. So I politely ask the group if I could take a listen, not sure what the source was, they were using a McCormack Head Drive (??!!, not sure of spelling) -- this is just 3-5 minutes, but wow, just wow. For a nanosecond I thought about bolting an…

So there I was just replacing the black olives when BAM, there goes the little black tube that the foamies slide on.  Anyone know if this is something Shure will even replace/repair? Gah! I use these too and from work everyday. Well, the Senn PX100 I ordered will be getting some serious time when it arrives.

  21. my boss would like a good headphone recommendation. He's looking for a good closed 'phone with velour pads. He has a pair of Beyers that he doesn't like as they are too bass heavy. He also has a HD650, but feels they're bass light and needs something that is closed. He also has a pair of AKG that he likes, but they have pleather pads. He'd be open to retrofitting pads to the AKG, as he likes them. I'm a bit out of my element here, so I figured I'd ask around... He didn't go into much detail, but he did say that he uses them with a mixer. I suppose I'm not sure what even fits the bill, so I'd be more interested in a list of options than recommendations, though the latte…

I figured this topic deserved a new thread and I'll kick it off with impressions of my new Koss UR18 foster phone. Those that have been following the ortho thread on HF know about the SFI drivers that cost next to nothing yet deliver in spades. I found a Koss UR18 cheap brand new today and it had all the right characteristics of a good foster phone, pleather pads, dual entry (I just like it like that) and thin earpads and a small enclosure. By sheer luck they had drivers which were exactly the same diameter as the SFI units so conversion was easy. Remove the old drivers and insert the new ones. Here you can see one earpiece and how I damped the housing. I didn't u…

  23. Well after one to many "nice warnings" about what i want my Dj to do at my place it seems i need to give him a night off to let him know whats up. i have done this dj crap for a few years strait so i am confident in which i can easily do the job, then again we are talking about someone playing off his imac from itunes most of his paid time.. My gear of choice is going to be the Numark idj2 mostly cause i have somuch music already done in lossless on my ipod now (thanks to Benchmark for proving the capabilities of a computer setup). of course i am converting all my lossless files into 128 mp3s cause the idj2 does not play lossless and plus the 128's are going to be used…

  25. APureSound received a damaged Sony 10 headphone, but this story is just the beginning. Let me just say a company most everyone knows made a HUGE f-up tried to hide it lying to the customer ect. Well worth the read. I would just post here, but too much effort redoing everything. Click on the image below to read more!
